    Lemongrass Beef Plate
    Rayce M.

Visited Nam Kitchen for dinner and really enjoyed the experience- though I have one major gripe. My wife and I went on a date at Nam Kitchen, where we enjoyed the newly decorated space, which was formerly a poke/slider joint. It was fairly busy inside on a Saturday night- a good sign. We ordered the combination appetizer plate and the lemongrass BBQ beef plate. The staff was kind and attentive, though I finished my water partway through the meal and was never offered a refill. The food was great. Very fresh, flavorful food that is clearly homemade and made with care. The spring rolls were stuffed full, and the peanut sauce was spot on. The egg rolls and potstickers were both super crispy and paired well with the variety of sauces. The beef was super tender, yet a bit crispy, and had great savory flavor. My only issue: I wish there was more of it. For the price, I thought the portion sizes were small. The beef plate was $16 and had a large serving of white rice, but a pretty puny portion of beef and veggies. The combo appetizer plate was $9, a slightly better value, but still on the small side. Maybe I am out of touch, but for nearly $35 after a tip, the amount of food we ate seemed to be lackluster. I think my dining dollars would have stretched a lot further somewhere else. However, the food here is excellent, and I love supporting a new local business. I will probably return to Nam Kitchen at some point, and perhaps I will find another dish that offers some value that is more aligned with my expectations.

    Appetizer Combo

We were the first diners at opening. Very welcoming space. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The first thing we ordered was the appetizer combo. It was came with two pieces of spring roll, two piece of eggrolls, two pieces of potstickers, and a variety of dipping sauces. I really enjoyed the spring roll because they used bbq pork and the egg rolls were crunchy and a delicious filling. Not sure what the middle sauce was but we dipped it the eggroll in it and it was good. I also liked their peanut sauce for the spring roll as well. I would definitely recommend it for sharing with another person. I ordered the regular sized beef pho which came standard with steak slices and beef brisket, but I also added extra meatballs for $2 which wasn't a bad price. Regular pho was $14 and a large was $16. The broth was definitely beefy, which I enjoyed a lot but, I felt like it was missing the notes of the different spices as well. By 12pm, the restaurant was busy so it did take awhile for service to come around as it picked up, but our server was very apologetic about it which was fine with us. So if you wanna come by, I would try to come during non-peak hours. Definitely coming back here to try other things!

    Calamari

We stopped by NAM (again) and had a really great experience. We ordered the calamari, spring rolls, 2 pho, and coffee, and everything was on point. The calamari was crispy without being heavy, the spring rolls were fresh and flavorful, and the pho had a rich, comforting broth that really stood out. The coffee is always the main squeeze for me. Service was friendly and the overall vibe made it easy to relax and enjoy everything. Definitely a spot I'd come back to and recommend if you're in the mood for something fresh and satisfying. Thanks Liam!

My favorite Pho in the area and one of my favorites anywhere is BACK! The owner had my favorite Pho in his previous location (under a different business name) in Reno for a long time, but he sold it a few years ago to start to raise his family. Now that his kids are older, he's opened this new place and it's AMAZING! During his hiatus, I'd literally been to almost every Pho place in the area to find something that measured up to my standards, as well as the tastes that he spoiled me with and no one really filled the void. Some were good...others were better...some were downright bad...some just adequate...but every place that was good that I went to had issues (see my other Pho reviews for all the details). I'll be stopping by this new restaurant on a regular basis, hot or cold weather, to get my dose of my favorite Pho in the area, even though it's in Carson City...about a 30 minute drive from Reno for me... Let me reiterate what I said in my earlier reviews when Chef Liem Le owned his previous location: the depth of flavor in the broth, the amount of proteins in the #1 Beef Pho (still my fave) and the condiments served on the side to add to the dish are still the best, in my opinion! His fabulous wife, Nini, has the FOH staff on point and the service is excellent...and super friendly. I always get a large...it's a full meal...if your appetite is a little smaller, get the regular size... Of course, I get the Beef Balls, Beef Tendon and Beef Tripe...and he now offers a Beef Rib, too! As in his previous restaurant, everything is seasoned and cooked on point, the balance of the noodles, proteins and veggies are perfect...and the taste? Even better than before!! In his previous location, Chef Liem even introduced me to a couple of things to add to my Pho to make it even more like the traditional style he grew up with in Vietnam...he still does that for me here. He adds a raw egg to the piping hot broth right before serving. When it arrives, he taught me to break it up before it sets and mix it throughout the dish to add an unctuous texture that's not to be missed. I also get one of his special 6 Minute Ramen-style Eggs to add to my Pho. Neither of those options are on the menu...just ask him for it...tell him that The Saxman recommended them. If you like big spice like I do, make sure you ask for their chili oil...that'll kick it up a notch! All of their other dishes on his new menu look delicious and I plan to try everything over time...which I did at his former restaurant...and they were all superb...but, for now, I need a bunch of doses of this outstanding Pho before I branch out. It's a small place, so if you get there and it's packed (which I expect to happen a LOT because it's already getting so popular), don't be discouraged if you can't get a seat...order it to-go! All in all, this is a place that I highly recommend. There's a lot of choices in the area, but, this is now where I go for MY favorite Pho!

I'm so excited for more interesting options in Carson City. This quickly jumps near the top of my list of favorite places in Carson. I got the spicy lemongrass pho bowl, and enjoyed it very much. The spice level and lemongrass flavor were just right for me. The meat was good, and the side ingredients were fresh. My only complaint was the noodles. They were a little overcooked, and they were in a slightly tight ball still which caused the noodles to break into tiny little pieces as I ate. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and made sure I knew they didn't forget about me when my soup took a little longer than normal (which I expected as I got what seemed like the most labor intensive bowl on the menu). The menu is focused which I appreciate, perfect for the casual atmosphere of the place. I'm looking forward to trying more of the menu in future visits. Also they had a special when I was in, but I was dead set on getting soup when I arrived. In Reno I would give this a 4/5, but Carson is a different market, and I can appreciate having a great option for lunch on a work day.

Surprising find for good VN food in Carson City of all places! If you're looking for something different in your fare that's quality dining in a relaxed atmosphere that's even open pretty late, you should give Nam a try. The food was tasty, the service friendly, the prices reasonable and the restaurant clean and comfortable. When we were there it was a steady flow of diners. I think my pictures tell the story so have a look and when you're in Carson, try the place. If you like VN food at all you'll like Nam.

Flame Broiled BBQ Beef super dry, no flavor. Lots of fatty pieces that were hard to chew.
    nate c.

I ordered for pickup on DoorDash from here 2/17/26. The Banh Mi sandwich didn't have mayo like the description said. The beef was very dry & flavorless, much of it was just fat pieces that were unpleasant to eat. Not marinated or anything like the description said. Could've used more ingredients that you'd expect from other restaurants with a Banh Mi. The "Flame Broiled BBQ" Beef was also disappointing bland dry flavorless beef, a scoop of rice & a sad, small veggie pile. It was a very pathetic dish & not worth the price at all. Tough steak with absolutely zero flavoring whatsoever. Overall for the taste & the value this place is 2 stars imo. Very disappointed in this restaurant.

The food here is amazing. It's the best pho we've had since leaving so cal! The pork chow mein is awesome as well.

    Beef rib
    Nick M.

This place is absolutely amazing. Came from California, pho can be hit or miss but this place is a 10. Some of the best broth I've ever had. I added a beef rib, I will say the rib was a little cold but after letting it sit in my broth it warmed it up no problem. Not really an issue just would've preferred the rib to be warmed up. The servers are super friendly and accommodating. The egg rolls were also really good. Restaurant is clean, they got graded an A on the health inspection. Highly recommend.

Thank you LIEM for this amazing steak yummy

The boba is gritty squares in different colors with odd taste (not chewy round balls). But the green tea on ice, it came with was good. The meatball pho I usually get now also has raw beef slices also put directly ON the noodles it comes with. Ir they got the order incorrect three times. I would never order anything raw normally. I was surprised to see blood soaked noodles when I opened my to-go container. The meatballs were ok but not the size or consistency of all the other phos I've had. The little bag of bean sprouts was minimal quantity of sprouts, basil I had to throw most out with black leaves. I've tried this place twice in 6 months getting meals for two to -go each time and won't be back. 5 months ago I ordered and 2 meals were both wrong when I got home so that's a separate issue to check your order before you leave. Hopefully they get it all fixed as this is a great location.

We usually order our food to go, and we were happy to see that they have upgraded to to-go bowls. Sadly, the things the pho is served with (packets, basil, limes, onions, jalapeños, sprouts) were all thrown into 1 bag instead of 3 separate bags-1 for each person. This made it hard as 1 person in our group is allergic to onions and asked for no onions and there was still onions in the bag...just a smaller portion than for 3 orders. We also have one person that can't do spicy and having the jalapenos in the bag made everything spicy. We all found several dark hairs in our food. We know it isn't ours since 2 are bald and I am blonde. IF we return, we will definitely be asking for everything to be separate since 2 of our 3 people only got to eat noodles and their meat.

Our next option was to check Yelp and this place looked promising. It was just about a couple of miles away and had plenty of good reviews. We drove down the main strip and headed to our alternate destination. It's located inside a weird-looking interior strip mall that has a separate shared restroom with the rest of the businesses contained in the building. The restaurant staff wasn't too welcoming upon entry as we got seated and service was as warm and hospitable as the weather outside. We ordered a Calamari ($15.50) for appetizers, and we each got a Combination Pho ($18.50). I chose to change my noodles to Egg Noodles (which I typically do at other Pho places) and wifey opted for the Flat Noodles. (More commentary on this later). I know prices have gone significantly higher since the Pandemic and with the recent tariffs, jacked-up inflation and all other factors beyond our control, I typically don't bat an eye now with the cost of how much everything is worth nowadays....and expectedly so. The server didn't even mention that it was gonna cost us extra to change the Rice Noodle to our preference of noodle. Although I noticed it way after as it was stated on their menu (shame on us for not reading), it would have been nice if the server provided us with this info. As for the food, the Calamari was so-so and inconsistent. Some pieces were crispy and some pieces were soggy. The coating was very doughy and bland. They were also cut very thinly and lacked the snap. The Pho was basic and uneventful. But the worst part of the food was the garnishes. These were still soaked in water they there were literally dripping water on the sauce. Did they just grab them from a container, plopped them on a saucer and didn't even bother draining the water on a dry rack? You can see the pool of water left on the saucer plates. And I mentioned the warm service earlier. It was hard to flag down a server as they kept passing by us and almost felt like they were ignoring us even though we would wave and raise our hands as they delivered the food to our surrounding tables in an attempt to get their attention. They weren't wearing blinders, but it felt like they were. Also....don't get me started when patrons receive their orders first even though we placed our orders prior to their arrival. Yeah....I hate it when that happens. Lastly, let's backtrack on my commentary on the pricing. It was a sticker shock when we received the bill since I didn't realize it cost extra to replace the noodles (even though it's stated on the menu as I realized later on). It would have been nice if they server mentioned this, but service was lackluster from beginning to end.
