Wags Pet Resort - Sherwood

I heard about Wags from a mom at Hondo Dog Park, and I'm so glad that I decided to try Wags!…read more Everything about Wags is fantastic from what I've seen so far. My puppy Pepper attended a fellow dog's birthday party on her first day, and she looks so happy! :D This picture warms my heart! Any dog care place that takes the time and care to have birthday parties with beautiful party hats is a good place to go! :D Unlike other dog care locations, they let me see inside the facility, and I love that there are trainers in with the dogs at all times & that positive reinforcement is used. It's great that the dogs are on rubber padded flooring, and I know that Peps isn't stuck in a cage at any point in her stay. I also love that there's lullabies played during nap time to help them know it's time to sleep. The prices are either at or below competitor locations for day care (I purchase the bulk reservations - so for me it's $32 a day). Pepper is a high energy dog, and they recommend bringing high energy dogs early in the day so that they have the best opportunity to play and get that energy out. This works well with my schedule - so I drop her off at 6:30AM, and pick her up at 1:30PM. She comes home tired and sleeps the rest of the day, which is great so I can sleep before I work my overnight shift & I know that she won't be harassing my 2 cats because she's tired from playing all day. The only reason I don't attend more frequently is that Sherwood's a bit of a drive from Hillsboro, but I'm making sure she attends Wags as much as we can. I was able to get these extremely great pictures of Pepper from Wags's Facebook page, but my suggestion for improvement is installing a camera system so I or my partner can watch her having fun during the day. We like to be able to see her (and I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting to be able to see their furry loved ones).

This place used to be amazing because of the dedicated, knowledgeable staff who genuinely cared…read moreabout the dogs. Unfortunately, things have taken a sharp turn for the worse under the current ownership. Some of the best employees--the ones who built trust with clients and kept the dogs safe--have been leaving one after another due to how poorly the business is being run. Now, completely untrained new hires are being brought in and told they'll be managing, despite having zero experience with dog behavior or daycare safety protocols. It's incredibly unsafe--for both the dogs and the staff. The owner takes no responsibility for training or preparing new employees. There's no onboarding, no walkthrough of fight protocols, and no clear procedures for how to handle emergencies. He also underpays OG staff yet new hires with zero experience are brought in above them. This is no longer a place I would trust with my dog's safety. Until there's a serious change in leadership and training, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

We hired Petsitter Portland for an overnight sitter while we were out of town for the weekend. The…read morefirst night, our sitter was a no-show. I only found out the next morning when I reviewed our front door camera footage and realized our dog had been alone since 7pm the night before. I had to leave a note in the app before anyone reached out to us. When the owner finally called to apologize, I asked why we weren't contacted as soon as the issue came up. His response was, "we're not open during those hours." I'm still not sure what that means for a pet care company. If you're taking responsibility for someone's pet overnight, there is no "closed." To his credit, the owner stepped in personally to cover the rest of the wknd, but by that point the damage was done. Our dog had been alone for over 12 hours. I don't even want to think about what would have happened if we didn't have exterior cameras or happen to check them that morning. We got lucky, and we shouldn't have had to be. The whole situation was incredibly stressful and affected our entire trip. The owner comped the one night, but charged full price for the rest of the wknd. Honestly, given everything that happened, I would have expected the whole stay to be taken care of. If you need a sitter you can count on, especially for overnight stays, I'd look elsewhere. Peace of mind is the whole point, and we didn't have it.

It gives us so much peace of mind knowing our pups are getting great care while we're busy at work. They are also super communicative and we love the photos and updates we get after the walks. We highly recommend them to anyone looking for a trustworthy dog walker!
