Paco is a 4-year-old Mini Aussie who is loving, playful, and full of energy. For a long time, walks and outings were difficult because he would become very reactive whenever he saw another dog. Taking him places and enjoying walks together honestly felt impossible. We decided to enroll Paco in Sit Means Sit, and we are beyond grateful we did. Matt has been absolutely amazing with Paco. Well we are two weeks in with our doggie being home and having done a week of Board and Train with Brian. Prior to SMS, we were having issues with confidence and excitement. He was charging people and dogs while walking ONLY with me. And growling at and even attacked one of our cats, who for reference was his best friend for ages. They'd even sleep together and played a lot. I wanted Miles to get to training before we ended up with him biting someone was my greatest fear. So we picked him up on 4/20 in the morning and went over basics with Brian. Miles was EXHAUSTED for the first few days. Obviously from all that physical AND mental work. But he was immediately different. SO chill. Completely relaxed. By Tuesday of last week (just three FULL days after being home, almost 4,) I was already able to walk him and get Heel, Sit, Down and no reaction to people OR dogs passing with just a 1 tap on the remote. We started with a 3 or 4 the first few days.Miles regularly does GREAT with just this level. We went back on Friday, 4/26 for a session to follow up with Brian. We were VERY pleased with Miles progress as was Brian. We worked on the heel to perfect it and also Tie down, the leash stand and reviewed a few questions. Because Miles was doing so well, Brian suggested that maybe he'd do well with agility work. So he set him up a small course, and put him through it. Well Miles did NOT like it. He LOVED it!!! He had SO much fun. And he was doing AMAZING. He caught on SO fast. So fast rbat Brian sent us specs to build the jumps!! We also worked on high object "place." And Brian gave us lots of tips on that. With it only being 9 days since our pickup and 13 days since he started training, I'd say this was 1000% worth this training. We didn't have a BAD dog but a dog that needed some tweaks and some humans that needed help doing it. Now my husband and I look forward to walks and spending time with and taking him places. And Miles therefore gets MORE time with his people. Ellie, our daughter, LOVES doing "place" and commands with him and Jack, our son, is LOVING agility SO much that he and his dad already started building Miles jumps!!! I can't express enough how wonderful Halle has been with helping me train my Belgian Malinois puppy Hailey. At first, I was hesitant to sign up because I wasn't sure about using an e-collar for training, but I am so thankful I did. We started training in May of 2025, when my dog Hailey was only 5 months old. Halle is a natural at training challenging dogs, and she is incredibly patient and kind in her approach. We have been going to sit means sit with our new puppy who struggles with separation anxiety and the usual puppy stimulation impulse control issues. We chose the two week sessions which were the most expensive and highest tier package offered because we want the fullest training to ensure our dog fits our lifestyle and needs for our family. I had already taken her previously to several puppy play dates where she learned down, sit and come. She just wouldn't hold them. Thus far the results including having a broken collar that stopped working on day one of week two back in our home, have been inconsistent and over promised from an initial conversation with Jessica. Who to contact for what has also been confusing. Sit means sit training heavily relies on a vibration/shock collar that our dog has seemed to only pay attention to when we can actively remind her she is wearing. This is not realistic for the real world situations we have. This is the opposite of what we were told to expect. The team of trainers have all been mostly responsive on text message when we have issues such as the broken collar but I have concerns about the impact of the training and my ability to stop what I am doing every time to remind our dog of what we need her to do when I was told she would just be able to have the training stick long term. The second the collar comes off my dog is her old self. And no one seems to find issue with this so far from sit means sit in being honest with how this is a sign the training has not worked for her even with a lifetime guarantee. Compared to other dog training this is costing me even more of my own time after paying substantial money which was not what I was told to expect because every time we have an issue we have to go back to the trainer. It's like weekly right now. Hoping they can take the dog and spend another week of retraining with her or more, instead of thinking I can just come in at 3pm on a weekday since I am working. I am actually surprised at how many high stars Sit Means Sit has received. I unfortunately, cannot give that many. In fact, I believe we should get at least half our money returned for false representation. In our initial consultation with Jessica and a follow up email with her regarding more concerns before we started training, we were assured that our dog would no longer have aggressive behavior after training. After his training we could take him to the beach, no longer worrying about him lunging at people or dogs. At our last training session we were told instead to muzzle him when meeting new people and then later when wanting to introduce him to another dog, we were told not yet! He wasn't ready. We understand that aggressive behavior in a dog is complicated and hard to address but were assured by Jessica that the training would "fix" this problem and our dog would be a "new dog" after the training. We were totally mislead by Jessica at our initial consultation and after a couple emails to her, she has never responded to us personally but instead sends other staff people to try and deal with our problem - the staff being a little in disbelief in what we were promised. The only time she has responded to us is before we were paid in full. Once paid, she has never responded to us again. If you want to spend over two thousand dollars to have your dog learn to place, heal, sit, off and down, then Sit Means Sit May be the place for you. I adopted my 5 year-old dog Wally 10 months ago and while I don't know much about his history, it was clear that he hadn't had any basic obedience training. A couple months in I realized that he couldn't be around other dogs at all. He's a bite risk who was able to Houdini his way out of his collar and "escape proof" harness and I couldn't get his attention as soon as we stepped outside. On top of that he would bark, whine and pull aggressively even when the other dog was all the way down the street. I didn't feel like he was safe to take on walks in NW (where I live) and because of that I was taking him out really early in the morning, going somewhere remote for a long walk in the afternoon and then taking him out again late at night, all the while PRAYING we wouldn't see another dog. Obviously this wasn't fun for either of us, but then I found Sit Means Sit. Wally and I did the 4-day training program and I'm not exaggerating when I say that every time I went in for my evening session I was blown away by his progress. Aaron worked with Wally around his dog, Izzy, and on the second session he showed me pictures of Wally and Izzy holding place on the same spot. On the third session he was walking both dogs at the same time within a foot or so of each other (look at the videos on their FB page!) and today Wally was able to stay focused on me while Izzy was running a couple inches by us for treats. Aaron was also able to set us up with the right equipment so that Wally can't wiggle out of his harness anymore (however now I doubt he'd even try). I never thought that the progress he's made would be possible for him, he's still the sweetest dog in the world, but now he's also really well behaved. It's also worth noting how attentive the staff is outside of the normal training schedule. Every time I had a question while working with Wally at home one of the trainers (usually Miranda or Tayler for me) were quick to either give me a call to talk me through adjustments or send me an email with advice and videos so that we weren't stalled before going into our next session. For COVID, SMS is very good about making sure everything you touch is sanitized, 6 feet of distance is maintained between you and the trainer and you are both wearing masks. Everyone with a dog in the day of your training has a different entrance, so you aren't interacting with anyone but your trainer. I could talk about the amazing experience I've had with SMS all day, and if you're shopping around trainers I highly recommend you give them a call. It's expensive, but they offer payment plans and it's SO worth it. I can't wait to start group classes with Wally to continue our momentum! read more

We picked up our dog Beans at Sea-Tac in December 2017 via the amazing rescue team Sgt Pepper's Friends in Aruba. As of now just trying to communicate with them is horrible and lacks any transparency. I'm comparing my options in trainers. I am seeking information on training methods, costs and differences between them and their main competitor. I get polite generic replies and built in sales rebwith zero substance. "thank you...we definitely have experience trsining.." "sounds like we can definitely help you achieve your goals". They sent over some links from their site. All seems very responsive, lacks substance but enough to keep me asking. But when I ask what is the difference between them and their training system and method vs their main competition "Off-leash k9" they refuse to answer. I'm trying to decide between off-leash k9 and them and off-leash is very transparent is their methods, training and even costs, compared to sit means sit who only give general sales rebuttals and trying to force me into the door before they talk any specifics in what they do. "we can definitely set up a consultation and Jessica our training consultant would be able to tell you more..." The lack of transparency is very annoying which to me seems to be a culture issue then which I would not work well with. After actually reading the other negative reviews and sit means sits replies and twists I'm glad I'm taking my time vetting trainers. Poor communication lacking any substance and cooky cutter treatment just lost them my business. Just to update off the BS reply of the owner. I even have an email from their assistant who put in writing telling me she is not equipped to answer questions. All she can do is just book appointments and give basic scripted generic replies. So when people are getting dogs and looking for training options, I would suggest you teach your staff how to answer basic questions. read more

We had a terrible experience with this training, for two of our dogs. One was a one year old puppy who came back so terrified of the collar that she hid and had diarrhea at the sight of it. When she got home after being there for 17 days for basic training commands, potty training, leash walking - dog and people interaction and reinforcement of these skills and off leash abilities. She came home undernourished, scared and without any really skills at all. The trainers said it was on us to make the training work would stick. Not one command was useful. She still did not respond to the most basic commands - "sit", "place", "stay" or walk on a leash well, still potties in the house, and still has all the same behaviors we paid almost $5000 to help train/ alter behavior for. Our other dog - 9 year old whose only issue was marking and not being easy to walk on leash. He was there for 10 days and at the 7th day needed to be taken to my vet because he was not eating and was sick - Diarrhea and not eating etc. this is a dog that had always been so healthy and well-nourished that for him to be so upset by this experience that he ended up sick at the vet for anxiety and etc. is unacceptable! It took a is several weeks to get both of our pups back to a healthy place. This was $5000 of money lost and a whole lot of pain & suffering for my pups. I would never recommend this program to any pet owner that loves their pet. read more

Graduation day came and I couldn't be more proud of my little girl. She worked really hard and came so far (from days prior to SMS where I fed her close to three bologna sandwiches a day to convince her to go down stairs and walk outside when it was raining as well as dark). Natalia and crew have been amazing for our 3 year old boxer-pit mix (Fletch). He has super high energy and all other training attempts weren't working. We were stressed and didn't know what to do. SMS bootcamp set us down such a positive path. At first we were hesitant about the collar training but after understanding the methods we went through with it and have never looked back since. Fletch came home tail wagging with a big ole smile. He was mentally challenged and did amazingly with leash walking and other day-to-day task. We take him camping with us and can let him off leash knowing he will always come back when we call. It has been such a peace of mind since we've worked with them. Bottom line is listen to the clients needs in the first place and let the client know upfront if the requests are unreasonable. I took Rye to a two day Camp Hunah training program in Bend and he now loose leash walks like I had stressed to you I wanted. Camp Hunah was $200 for 2 days by the way. I highly recommend them especially for herding dogs. P.S. For sake of accuracy on a public posting, Sit means sit did not try to contact us on several occasions, but once via a text message in December 2018 for the 3rd visit. Again to reiterate, her basics are completely fine when alone at home so the confidence level (step 2) has zero issues. We would have loved for Dess to return to step 3 of the course, however the simple fact is that she can no longer around other animals due to extreme aggression after leaving your course. read more

Our rescue dog had some serious dog aggression issues and after a 4 week day-stay program he has has totally turned around. Our program was suggested after a video consult with a trainer and was a less intensive and expensive program that we originally thought we needed. Instead of taking advantage of our concern to talk us into a more expensive training plan, the trainer suggested a cheaper, shorter one and said we could always extend it if needed. We did 4 weeks once a week with the dog staying all day at their facility and a one-hour training session when we picked him up. It was enough to do the trick. Our dog is still anxious at seeing other dogs but we are reliably able to redirect his attention to us and get him through it now. More importantly, we are confident that we have the tools to help him progress to completely ignoring other dogs and maybe one day to even want to be friends. Long term success requires structure and consistency at home but the trainers made sure we know what to do to keep it up and Sit Means Sit has a lot of training materials to use for reference. It is very efficient and professional and it works. I wish we hadn't wasted hundreds of dollars getting nowhere with another trainer before coming here. read more

Wish we could award entire galaxies. Our German shepherd, Stavo,. did the three week board and traIn when he was 13 months and the results were amazing. He's very intelligent, very handsome, fairly well socialized to other dogs and people. He is also the ADHD kid who thinks he knows best and we would all be happier if we did it his way. He came back to us a well trained obedient dog and I fully credit the competence and professionalism of the SMS staff. Nor did they just bring him back and wave goodbye. They worked closely with us for weeks after. Time passed and not well for me, who principally worked with Stavo. I sustained some spinal fractures on top of other disabilities, then was hospitalized twice for different health conditions. I mention this because Stavo became progressively less manageable, I finally called SMS several months ago and haven been floored by their response. They've shown such concern for us and for Stavo. Brian has come out numerous times and been so helpful, always making sure we have things to work on in between lessons. Moreover, he's not just quick to see an issue, he's even more quick with remedies. And generous--he's given us a treat bag that works and activities like jumps to keep Stavp active and focused. Stavo is currently nearing the end of a board and train refresher and the videos they post shown incredible improvement. I am also confident that Brian will work with us at home 'till we get it. Our trainers name is Miranda and she did a wonderful job with our dog Willie. Willie learned some much needed training and we also received some tools to carry on our training at home. Willie is a male lab and a bit stubborn for me. Miranda showed us how to redirect him during distractions along with some basic commands. We have a large breed dog that if he isn't trained early will not have to listen to us when he's 120 lbs. We did the puppy class and went on to have our 7 month old puppy go through their 2 week training camp while we were on vacation. Training has changed in a good way since our last dog went through classes. We liked everyone we worked with and our dog has developed some good habits because of them. Sit Means Sit does not use "shock collars". You can try the collar on your hand. I like that we can continue with classes as long as we'd like and they're included and if we have any issues in the future, one of the trainers will come to our house. I cannot say enough nice things about Bobby and the whole Sit Means Sit team. They really take the time to get to know you and your dog. We have a crazy dog, named Lola. We had worked with other trainers in the past to try and work on Lola's aggression and extreme anxiety, but to no avail. When we adopted our parents' sweet lab, Lola decided to guard everything in the house from him, including snapping and lunging. With Bobby's help we have gotten to a place where Lola is under control and I don't have to worry about the new lab being attacked. As we kept talking to Bobby, we have worked on other issues we had just given up on with Lola, such as going to the dog park and riding in the car. It is great that I don't have to worry about how many sessions and how much money it will take to fix things, because training is for life. I feel like in Sit Means Sit we have a partner in lifelong training rather than a consultant we pay by the hour and then leaves without caring about the future. Boarding: so great. Once your dog is training with Bobby, they can be boarded with Sit Means Sit. In the past, we have needed to board Lola somewhere where she had very little interaction with others and dogs because we worried about her aggression. I can't say enough about Sit Means Sit!! I had tried dog training for my French Bulldog where you go once a week for an hour and it was such a waste of time and money. We were finally at our wits end and I looked into boarding/training and found Sit Means Sit on line. I was impressed how it looked on line, very professional, a team of trainers that were full-time employees and a clean facility. I so appreciated how they come to you for your evaluation and we decided that if we are going to invest lets go all in and chose the 3 week program. NO REGRETS. We missed him like crazy but loved that he was getting consistent training, every day. I could call whenever needed to get an update (I do wish I got a few more video updates). Loved that they drove him back to me and I could not get over at the difference!!! He's a new dog. He's more calm... and so are we because we aren't getting frustrated with him anymore. We are able to stop him before he does something naughty, no more running away, jumping on people, freaking out when he sees another dog. Soooo much better. We are all happier. I also appreciated how the training will come to your home for follow-ups and that you get free group classes whenever you want. We have a sweet but extremely exuberant (and at times naughty) 8 month old lab puppy that needed obedience training. We had tried another trainer with a group class structure and found we weren't getting enough one on one instruction and our busy schedule was difficult to fit into a group class routine. We researched and found Sit Means Sit and felt it might be a good match for our needs. We made the absolutely best decision! Bobby is wonderful - he's quiet and gentle with our puppy and the time spent with us has been very educational and such a great experience. We now have the tools we need to have a happy, healthy, and well behaved dog. We needed to find a quality training place that could help us with our dogs resource guarding and taking off sprinting whenever he was off leash. Our final straw was when he snapped at me while resource guarding and when he ran away while camping AT MIDNIGHT in the forest (more than once). Within 4 weeks of training at SMS, our dog is a new dog. He no longer sprints away from us, it's actually the opposite now he won't leave our side when he's off leash. And his resource guarding is no longer an issue. We now regularly get compliments on our well behaved pup now. Sure you could go through Petsmart and pay super cheap rates to get 1:1 training (we almost did), however we wanted true professionals that could really turn our boys behavior around. Honestly, you get what you pay for. One of the best investments we've made for our family. Brian was an incredible trainer, my husband and I (and our dog) loved working with him. We have already recommend our family to them and speak highly of Sit Means Sit to everyone. There's a reason they have the best ratings in Portland. 9 month update: Our dog is still well behaved. Barely needs any redirecting when off leash. We take him to an open field where there's sometimes other dogs. Before SMS, he would sprint across the field to play with another dog and we would have no control. During training: he'd see a dog, start running towards it we would give cues to stop. He'd stop. Now 9 months later: he sees a dog, may run over to it AND STOPS HIMSELF and sits to wait for me to give him permission to run over to the dog. So cool! read more

Sit Means Sit Portland has by far exceeded my expectations! My 2 year old German Shepherd was aggressive toward other dogs after having been attacked by a dog off leash when she was still a puppy. I had tried multiple training programs and while they had helped a little, the Board and Train program has changed our lives. She has now graduated Reactive Dog class and moved to Basic Group Class. Being just a few feet away from other dogs, she is calm and focused. Every single trainer is kind and knowledgeable, and takes a personal interest in her (and my progress). Sit Means Sit is a worthwhile investment! Our experience with Sit Means Sit dog training has been excellent. My husband and I highly recommend them for your dog training needs. We have seen a noticeable improvement in our two dogs and we are eager to continue with Group Classes to provide them with more skills to be successful in distracted surroundings. We went from living with our blinds drawn (because our dogs couldn't control themselves) to enjoying our beautiful surroundings (one is laying at my feet and the other is laying on the couch as I type this). I can't say enough amazing things about Sit Means Sit. We had our 2 year old French Bulldog do a training program about 3 months ago and he's been a changed dog ever since! Our little guy used to have many behavior issues- he was dog aggressive, people aggressive, ran away off the leash, and just thought he ruled the house. After a two week board and train and 3 home lessons, we are making so much progress in Mulligan's learning. He came home from SMS happy and healthy and gets excited every time he gets to put his collar on and work on his training. He's the dog we always knew he could be :) We still attend classes (which are free after you've paid for the program- another AMAZING perk) as we've learned that Mulligan's training is as much about us changing our habits as him learning. Mulligan is still excited to go and loves to see all of the staff at SMS. Again, I can't say enough about how impressed we are with Sit Means Sit.
