By far my favorite nail salon in the Middletown area. I've deemed Nancy Q my regular stylist after the amazing work and customer service she has provided. I love that she is a perfectionist and makes sure her work is precise + approved by the customer before finishing. My daughter received great service from Wendy and my husband says Lisa provides the best pedicures he's ever had. The salon is very clean and all of the staff is friendly. There is always someone at the front the greet you and always some great music playing to set to mood. Being from Philly, I was so used to acrylic nails but since getting my nails done in Delaware, I've been introduced to gel. I've tried a few salons out and most in the Middletown area don't even offer acrylic services or always recommend gel. I can honestly say the gel has been good to my nails. They are stronger, grow healthy, and they dont easily chip or break. I've been to this salon a few times before reviewing it to ensure its consistency, as I've had some inconsistent experiences with another salon in the same area. I am happy to consider this place my regular salon now and cannot wait for me + my families next appointment. read more

I asked for a acrylic fill and the lady gave me a whole new set of gel x nails that was 80$ and I repeated that I wanted a fill and she said I had tha my whole set needed to be re done so sure maybe it needed to be so I agreed then she gives me very sharp medium stilettos when I asked for short almond nails and dosent fix my nails when I correct her after that she begins to apply this gel and I asked if it was acrylic and she said no I said I wanted acrylic and she said it looks more natural and continues despite me not wanting gelx nails read more

My service was fine. My complain is for one of the nail techs who (Mid length, ashy brown and blonde hair) basically berated their cashier about a mistake ta she made. She made it a point to embarrass the young cashier in front of everyone, including other customers. If the nail tech took the time to look up, she would have seen how uncomfortable she made all of us feel. I spoke up for the cashier and the NT tried to bully me into submission. This place I would say specializes in hand services . it was an acceptable experience from start to finish. The ambiance was both chic and relaxing, with a calming atmosphere that immediately put me at ease. The salon was immaculately clean, and the staff took extra care to maintain a hygienic environment, which is incredibly important to me. The nail technicians were not only highly skilled but also genuinely friendly and attentive. I opted for a gel manicure and a classic pedicure. The manicure was performed with meticulous attention to detail. Annie took the time to understand my preferences and offered excellent suggestions that enhanced the final look. The polish application was flawless, with no smudges or streaks. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted warmly. The pedicure however was rushed and done by a different technician. Great service but one suggestion. Equipment and work station should be cleaned off with lysol wipes. You can see that some of the tools are dirty from lots of usage and build up of dirt. Stations should be wiped down after every client as well as Equipment occasionally being wiped. I really like tropical nails and this is my only complaint. read more

I go here every 3 weeks and have my nails and toes done. I never feel like my services are being rushed. My pedicures are always amazing, I always feel so relaxed. The techs are always making sure I am comfortable or if I am happy with my nails. Not sure how long I have been going here, but I never leave unhappy. Great atmosphere and wonderful people. i'll preface this by saying most nail salons are very reputable in the area based off multiple specific technicians, and i came here with the intent of going to a specific tech after a last minute decision to get them done before going to the beach. the overall look of the salon is beautiful and well kept, everything is clean and well put together. however, be careful who you choose to get your nails done by. i went here because a good friend told me good things and my original technicians were off today so i took the chance for something different, but i was disappointed. i got a technician who was: 1. very speedy. she removed the gel lamp too early and two of my nails got ripples on them. she covered one up with another layer of polish instead of seeing it and fixing it. the other one is very obvious to see in lighting that the salon did NOT provide so i didn't see the issues until i left. 2. she didn't ask me every once in a while if i liked the shape or if everything was okay. i'm used to techs asking multiple times if everything is going the way i like my nails, and i feel this should be a beginner thing a technician should learn to know if everything is going alright. 3. parts of my nails feel empty or over polished! polish could've been used in a lot of places on some areas are very obvious to see they are messed up. my one nail looks like my cuticle is a whole other shape when it isn't that way at all. 4. i asked for a almond shape, but some of the shapes are very different from one another... 5. i asked for my nails to be shortened more as well, so i figured as she was changing the shape (from square to almond) it'd be shortened. all of that, i get charged $58!!! 48 for the refill (the website says 38, include gel polish price on top of that if that is the norm to add on top of acrylic, because you get people that are shocked by the price when they are done.) 5 for the shape (figured) and 5 for long nails? weren't i supposed to get them shortened during the shape change? i used to work in a nail salon and have been getting my nails done for some time. i know some people get on customers butts for not complaining beforehand if they weren't happy with the outcome of their nails, but sometimes people are A. not conflictive, or B. they don't recognize until they are out the door. not to mention some salon lights are crappy anyways and provide poor lighting. if you are going to go into this salon, go in knowing exactly who is doing your nails and know they will do well, plus know what you are going to be spending. if not, ask the receptionist who they recommend. they will be honest, trust me. but in my experience? it was mediocre, especially for $58 next time, ask the client throughout the process if they like the shape/length. especially since i didn't really get the shortness i preferred... edit: not to mention, she didn't put base coat on my nails when she began painting them! i don't expect these to last long at all if a decent base coat can't even be applied... read more

Horrendous pedicure. Quite possibly the worst I have ever had. Photos show how terrible the quality is. I've given them a few chances (out of convenience) but this time will be the last. In prior appts my nails have not looked quite this bad but the paint job did not last more than a few days each time. This is what they're charging $38 for, before tip...a regular pedicure (not gel). I gave two stars because they offer a decent color selection & use stones and scrub during the pedicure. HOWEVER, none of that matters if the paint job looks like a 5 year old did it. I would normally feel bad leaving a review like this but honestly...this is not a one time occurrence, they're very pricey, & I've personally heard similar feedback from several other people. read more

I've been to Tropical Spa-Lon half a dozen times and all I can say is it's diminished significantly. My latest visit was the final straw--I won't be returning. A friend and I went in to get standard pedicures. We went through the normal difficult conversation with the front desk girl about gel vs non-gel. We said we understood, blah blah blah, but just wanted standard for today. We sat in the back and soaked for 10 minutes because the two staff members were late coming into work and there was no one else to do our appointment. The male employee doing my friend's nails was very rude. He kept pushing her to do gel, and when she refused, he upcharged her to remove the gel. He said if you get gel again, I won't charge you. She said no, she just wanted the basic. He and the other female employee then pressured us to get "spa pedicures" and we said no. They then proceeded to push us for gel for several minutes. We declined again. The female employee handed me the spa menu and pointed towards the spa and asked why I didn't want that one. I declined again. Neither employee spoke to us for the duration of the pedicures. My friend finished first--there was no longer a station to dry our toes. The male staff member walked her stuff up to the front and he said "wear the flip flops for awhile--your nails aren't dry." Once I finished, I handed the female cash for change. I started gathering my belongings to move towards the front. The male staff member stopped me and said "don't forget to pay!" And I said yeah...I'm waiting for change. This experience was AWFUL. I had a scheduled appointment and when I arrived for my appointment, I was told that the person I scheduled with won't be arriving until two hours later. If I hadn't had anything scheduled maybe I would've stuck around, but I wasn't even notified before I walked in the door on time for my appointment that he was not going to be there. A simple phone call would have been nice. And I completely u decretando that things pop up but if I would have been notified that would have alleviated some of my anger towards the missed Appt. I find this extremely unprofessional, and when I asked if they had anybody else to do my nails they told me to wait five minutes which I did, five minutes quickly turned into 20 minutes and when I sat in the chair and showed the lady that picture that I wanted which is a simple design not even a color added she told me that she can't do that and when I ask if there's anybody else who can do my nails within the next 30 minutes, I was told that no one was able to. I am extremely disappointed with my experience here , and now I have to look for another place to get my nails done in Middletown. read more

Used to be the go to nail salon in Middletown. Not anymore! I had to leave mid manicure bc the lady had filed my nails growth down the my finger tips! When she initially asked if I wanted them cut down I said no thank you, just the shape them . About 1/4 inches later my nails look like the did when I used to bite them! And uneven at that. Also the paint in my toes were messed up by the debris floating through the air before I even left the salon and they refused to fix them without charging. This is a nail salon nightmare read more

I did read the reviews for this place prior to going in and thought eh what the heck I'll try and see what happens. When I came in there was people waiting already and the shop was busy so maybe that was w good sign? I got a Mani/pedi done. I sat down in the massage chair and was looking and the menu for services. Two women came in and sat next time me and the girl offered them water or tea? Umm cool ? I guess I don't get offered the same things they do ? My pedi turned out great and I did like how she shaped my nails. My Mani was done by another tech. And she repaired one of my nails without asking (At least let me know if I want it done and how much it cost since it's not in the service menu). My repaired nail looked great though so I was like whatever. One thing I noticed is no new tools were really used ? The drill to sand down the nails are covered with nail powder which is pretty gross. The sanitation of this place worries me since I'm use to my old salon back in VA where everything is cleaned and opened in front of me. I got french tips/gel which made the Mani 5$ more. I frequent this establishment often as it's in my neighborhood. On the last visit, I was extremely disappointed with the customer service. I brought my disabled grandmother with me for manicure and pedicures. We were escorted to the back immediately for pedicures. At the end of that service, I was escorted to the front for my manicure. I was told that the person servicing my grandmother had to help a different client and someone different would do her manicure. She was left in her pedicure chair for 45 minutes w no service. They kept taking walk ins while she sat and waited. I stopped my service to escort her to the front so we could leave. There was no apology. The manager wasn't available. They offered a 5% discount. Very unhappy with microblading shaded brows done by Chanel. Eyebrow on each eye is different and I look ridiculous. Beware of thick brows. Tail on right brow is long and short on left eye. Beginning of brow on right eye is straight and rounded on left eye. Brows do not match. Now I have to pay the price to have them removed, along with the pain and suffering. I don't understand how this can happen. I asked for my money back and she said she could not do that. I have had such emotional stress and crying and just totally unhappy. read more

I had been looking for a Brazilian wax and this place said they specialized in them, worst Brazilian wax I have ever gotten, more painful than usual and the lady didn't even know what she was doing with the wax, got it all over me without removing it and just left it there, kept going over the same spot and wasn't getting anything with the wax so she wanted to basically pluck every single hair which usually that's normal if you have a few here and there but not the entire thing. When I tried to leave and told her to just stop she would just slap another wax strip on me so I would have to try to let her finish, I will never ever be returning for any services here, so unprofessional and obviously do not know what they are doing read more

PSA: DO NOT WASTE your money!!! BUYER BEWARE TROPICAL SPA-LON in Dover Run are crooks. Last Sunday I was quoted one price for gel nails upon finish was told 9$ more, could not explain why. My technician cut a chunk out of my finger with cuticle snippers after I asked her to leave them as is. By Tuesday 2 nails were breaking, stopped in to have fixed and they put a drop of crazy glue on top, said that was all they could do, and it would be fine. today, Saturday 2 nails are breaking LOW and across, stopped in to have repaired correctly, salon empty (I now know why) and told I should have had a different service, it's my fault and they WILL NOT fix??? What? I ask for manager, first I was told he is not in yet, then another man told me said he was manager (see pix) I would have to pay for the fix. I explained again this was 6 days old and broken in 2? I was not paying again. He said Then you can wait as he took another customer who needs her nails removed and redone. (1-1.5 hours) and he probably can't fix, but will look when he is done. Meanwhile 4 other employees are on their phones. I have never written a negative review on this site and probably never will again, every biz has bad days.. however this was 3 bad days in one week. I have been coming here for about 3 years. I am very picky about my nails, and Tony the owner does the best I have found in all of DE. It takes me 35-45 minutes to get there depending on traffic. I always get there 10-15 minutes early. Tony is occasionally late, and sometimes has his wife Jasmine start my nails until he gets there. He did give me a discount the time he didn't get there until 12:45 when my appt was at noon. Once they called me to cancel my noon appointment at 11:40 when I had left my house at 11.15. This is all unacceptable, but I put up with it because Tony is the best. However, today was the last straw. I talked to Courtney no less than THREE times about this appointment. I made the appointment last Tuesday for Sunday at noon. I called back Thursday to see if I could change it to Saturday at noon because we have a wake on Sunday, she said no problem. On Thursday night she called to confirm my appointment Friday with Vinnie. I said I don't have an appointment with Vinnie, have never been to Vinnie, and I have an appointment with Tony Saturday. She said yes I see that sorry. I walked in Saturday morning at 11:45 and said I have an appointment with Tony at noon. I could tell by Kennedy's face there was a problem. It turns out Tony is off all week and Kennedy said Courtney was supposed to call me. Really?? After I talked to her 3 times about this appointment?? They tried to call Jasmine to see if she could come in but she didn't answer. After sitting there for 45 minutes I left and told Kennedy I won't be back. (She was very pleasant) Jasmine left me a message apologizing at 1pm and offering to do my nails for free, but at that point I had already wasted 2 hours of my day off and no way was I driving back down there again. I can only say that Tropical Spa-lon has become the puppy mill of nail salons in Middletown. I have been going faithfully to Tropical Spa-lon for years now. I forgave little mishaps - people make mistakes. I ignored the negative reviews. Now, I am writing one. Tried a walk-in last week, a 20-minute wait. Makes sense. Left, called, and made an appointment. 25 minutes after my scheduled time and with no hope in sight for my turn, I ask for the next available person. Meanwhile, watched the manager tell the receptionist to seat two walk-ins and the receptionist explained she had called two people on the waitlist. "They're not here." "I just called them!" Did not matter, she made the receptionist take the walk-ins back. The ones on wait-list - T.S. for them when they get there. The person I got? Not happy with having to take a customer and it showed. Lukewarm water that barely covered my feet, no soap, no whirlpool - left me sitting there 12 minutes - because now I am timing things. Then left me again because he realized the polish needed to soak - another 10. Finally, when he came back I asked him to just take off the polish. I needed to leave. I don't treat people like they do not matter and don't like being treated that way. My time and money are as valuable as theirs - I saw today that they do not have the same mindset. Great place for mani pedi right here in Middletown. This place was recommended by one of my coworkers and I was nervous about trying a new place but good thing I gave them a shot. I walked in and was impressed by the environment; clean, cool and friendly. I was immediately asked what I needed done and was asked to take a seat with Scott who was awesome. Struck up convo with him and he mentioned that they have 28 people working there so you never get to wait a long time. After my mani, got a pedi and I was pleasantly surprised that they use new tools and they line the pedi bowl. Was asked what I wanted to drink and that impressed me too. I've been coming here for 2 months and almost every time my nails have looked horrible - bumpy, uneven, and not the shape I continuously asked for, but I gave them too many chances. I had an appointment 2 weeks ago where the lady was using USED tools on my nails - which is why I did not return. Wasn't too worried about it to complain, until today at my new nail salon - where there was green fungus on one of my nails under the acrylic. There was no lifting and was very clear that it was due to unsanitary products used on my nails. After speaking with the manager at this location, she advised me that I was lying and she MAY be able to offer me a discount on my next service??? Right - because i've acquired fungus at your salon, i would return?? No. That's absolutely disgusting and the female manager made it clear that it's not a problem - as she hung up on me. got my lashes done, very pretty but my lashes almost seem as if i could've done myself (very easy to take off/put on). it was very awkward and as an extrovert i like to talk while i am getting something done. the room was not very clean and i felt very rushed. lashes were put on very long and i asked for them to be cut and they were not cut a lot. was not worth $120 i will say. they will not be seeing me again. maybe it's better for nails. read more

I live a few minutes away so I always go here and I always request Monica. I always make sure to make an appointment because this is a busy spot. I've had good experiences here, but slowly the service began to deteriorate. I would make an appointment for 5pm and they wouldn't start on me until 5:30/5:45. Last time I went in, they started 45 minutes past my appointment, and it resulted in me being late to work. Absolutely love their pedicures. They do a fantastic job, most of the staff does. (Can't say about their manicures since I don't get them.) As for their waxing ? I would NEVER EVER have someone at Tropical Spa Lon do it to me again. She did not follow the outline of my brows. #1 - I have 2 eyebrows and they were both done unevenly. #2 I'm not sure how you can't see the little eyebrow hairs and either wax them off or pluck them out, but I somehow walked out with them STILL on my eyebrows. Was coming to this salon new to the area and it was highly recommended. One bad nail experience... so I was over all pleased. My toes felt funny and one of the nails fell OFF!.!.!. FUNGUS! Clearly they are NOT autoclaving equipment. I am usually weary of places that go in the back to get things however due to the area, pricing, and they had liners in the bowl!!!! BIG MISTAKE!!!!
