So, I decide to take my mom to get her nails done and unfortunately had a terrible experience here. I reached out via phone call later in the evening and asked if they were available for walk-in's, the lady who answered the phone informed me that they could take a walk in after 8pm. Great. So we arrive at the nail shop and I figure there's somewhere to sit inside while I wait for my mom. We buzz the door, and someone who I am assuming is the owner walks up to the door and greets us. We let her know we are the walk-in's and she tells me she can only allow one person inside. A little peculiar, but I complied as the shop is empty and she's by herself. Maybe a safety concern? Sure. She tells me I must wait in my car in the parking lot. Okay, no problem. Five minutes pass and my mom is leaving the shop and letting me know the lady was extremely rude and treated her badly. First, as soon as she got inside the shop, the owner started to tell her that it will cost as much as the entire manicure to remove the nails she had on...never heard of that before. Next, my mom wanted to make sure she'd be able to even out all the nails as one was broken and shorter than the rest. Something as simple as explaining the process of how she'd do it or even saying "oh no it shouldn't be a problem" seems to be very difficult for this lady. She instead asks "what, have you never had your nails done before?" My mom replies by saying there is no need to be rude and that she's just asking a question. The nail tech then says that she refuses to provide service and kicks her out the shop. I try not to assume one thing another, but when I connect the dots I can't help but assume racism from the entire interaction. From refusing entry to price gouging and finally just flat out refusing to provide service after asking a very basic question. Where have we seen that before? Oh that's right, everywhere for the past 100 years. I'm very disappointed and flat out disgusted at the behavior by the shop owner. If you care at all, I'd ask that you spend your money somewhere else that respects everyone equally without regard to the color of their skin. And maybe I'm wrong about her reasons for behaving this way, it could be that she just had a really bad day (I doubt it). Regardless, no excuse for terrible customer service and flat out disrespecting clients. Update: I love your response! Possibly the worst nail salon I've ever been to. I wish I read the reviews before going because all the reviews about customer service are true. I call around 10:30 to see if I could go in at 2. I had seen posts on yelp and could not tell that it was a private salon so I was trying to make an appointment with the person who I saw was doing most of the gel x. They got confused about who I was talking about and were rude. I did not know it was a 2 person salon. When she got confused she said okay just come in at 2. I had another appointment before but I finished early around 12:30 and I called and asked if by any chance they could take me earlier. I told them if not, it was fine cause I would come at 2. Initially, they said no but called back and told me I could come. I was already in the car at that point and my navigation said I was 10 minutes away but I got there 20 minutes after u called. When I got there, she said i would have to wait cause I was 10 minutes later than I said I would be. I didn't mind. From the moment I sat down to start, they had attitude the whole time. I was looking for a picture of exactly what I wanted but she did not want to get started until I showed her even though I was still getting gel x. I finally found the picture and showed it to them which is the picture I added to this review. I asked what color she thought was closest to and she handed me the color book and did not want to help out at all. It felt like the two were talking shit about their customers the whole time. Later, I was trying to specify what nail shape I wanted. I showed her the picture again and she said this was not similar to the gel x shapes. I tried to explain to her how u wanted it but she kept saying no so I told her to just do it how she knew how to do it. She got frustrated because she was confused and refused service. I was showing them pictures of exactly what I wanted to make it easier for them but she got annoyed because she didn't know how to do it and asked me to leave. I don't understand what's so difficult about a wine red manicure with this shape??? Even though they were giving me attitude from the second I get there I tried to be polite. Every single step they would take, they would say, by the way this is an additional 10 dollars etc. I didn't care about the price and expected the whole service but they acted like I was going to receive the service and run away without paying or not be able to pay it. In the end, they charged me for taking off my gel and merely cleaning my cuticles. The lady was even giving attitude to the customer next to me. After 6 months I FINALLY got my nails done! I'm so happy! My experience with Annie was GREAT. My sister (who is super picky when it comes to her nails) told me about Annie & I had a great experience. The nail salon is located at her house in the City of Pacoima. I parked in the street in front of her house, but she told me that in case you can't find a spot you are welcome to park outside her driveway (like it's ok to block). My appointment was at 9:00 am so upon arrival I called her, it looks like a regular house, but once you go inside she has a cute-full on nail salon. She recommended the "dip powder" manicure, so cute! My nails look thicker & longer & she said they will last longer than the regular gel manicure. Annie is very nice & attentive, her work is BEAUTIFUL! I highly recommend her. Can't wait for my next appointment. Let me start by saying that the low reviews on this shop seem to stem from a bit of entitlement. We have to treat humans like we want to be treated... I have been going to this PRIVATE salon for almost a year now and have never ran into any issues. Annie and her daughter Jen are so kind and accommodating. I have an unpredictable schedule and they manage to get me in every time I ask, even when it's last minute. I'm so appreciative of that because again, this is literally a private nail shop. It's appointment only and one client at a time. I love this business model so much because it's an intimate experience and their undivided attention is literally on you. Good for a relaxing experience and getting to know the people providing you a service. Next, let's talk about the quality of work. Annie not only gets me right every time, she makes the best suggestions to keep your nails healthy and strong. The advice always feels genuine and with her advice, my nails are thriving. Jen and Annie both take their time and pay close attention to detail on whatever service they are providing, which I love. This is a very small business and I've only ever dealt with Annie and her daughter Jen but between the both of them, they can literally execute any picture you bring in or nail/toe design you ask for with confidence. Overall, Annie and Jen are just very kind people that go out their way to provide excellent service. With any business, they have the right to have rules (Especially in a private shop) but their shop rules are very much reasonable and nothing crazy. (Cash only, atm provided. Unfortunately, this is by far the most unprofessional and unethical nail salon I have stepped foot in. My two friends and I called in asking if they had any availabilities for the services that we needed (1 full set, two fills, 1 pedicures). She asked if we were close by and I stated that we were 5 minutes down the street and she said if we could make it there within 5 minutes, we could be assisted. Due to traffic, we arrived within 9 minutes. Upon arrival, we were confused as their salon looks like a house. We tried to open the door and it was locked. We were confused at this point but the worker came out shortly asking what services we needed. I let her know that I had called, apologized for being four minutes late, and at this point- we were expecting her to tell us that she was unable to take us because she had an upcoming appointment. However, she didn't. She allowed us to come in and had one of my friends sit at the tables with her mom as he helped my other friend on the spa chair. She asked me to wait at the guest chair so I did. We then noticed that there were signs everywhere stating they they were "cash only" so I was worried that we were unable to stay because we only had card payments. The mother rudely stated that they had an ATM machine. While waiting, I decided to look at the gel nail polishes on the shelf. I decided to rotate one of the nail polish bottles to get a better look at the color, until the mother yelled at me stating that I could not touch anything. I was caught by surprise because I have never been to a nail salon that had this rule. So naturally, I had an anxious and confused look. As I sat back now, the mother speaks in Vietnamese stating that I had a bitchy face and attitude. Plot twist- I am Vietnamese and speak the language. I was taken aback as I had no idea why she felt this way and didn't say anything because I assumed she was just upset possibly due to the recent pandemic. So I let that slide. Until her daughter responded that she agreed and that they both did not like my attitude nor what I looked like. Mind you, I was dressed appropriately, called in politely, and when we arrived four minutes late and did not have cash payments- I would have been perfectly fine if they told us they could not help us. During this time, I texted my two friends privately telling them what was said about me and that I felt very uncomfortable being there. Similarly, my friends were shocked by the mistreatment. The mother and daughter both then continued to speak in Vietnamese stating that they disliked how the three of us were texting each other and continued to insult the three of us. I found it very disrespectful and unprofessional and decided to stand up for us. I responded back to them in Vietnamese- stating that if they did not like us from the minute they saw us, they had every right to refuse service. This was when things got out of hand. The daughter stood up, continued to insult me in Vietnamese, preached about how they had the right to refuse my service, stated that I should have told them I was Vietnamese, and asked me to leave. After this dispute, I left. My friends wanted to leave as well, but I told them that it was okay and to just let the workers finish the service. I am very ashamed to have come here and to be disrespected by people who should be professionals. Contrary to belief, I had told my friends that I have been to multiple nail salons and never have any of the workers spoke badly about their customers and to not think this way of the workers at Nail by N. The daughter and mother proved me wrong. I have never had this encounter and will not be returning. The three of us are RN's, therefore, we are empathetic and understand the rigor and stress that comes with customer/patient service. The way that we were treated here, goes against all ethics and professionalism. My mother also works at a nail salon, so when I informed of her their behavior- she was in disbelief. I hope they get their act together and learn to be professional workers. It is very unfortunate, as I looked up nailbyn's instagram and noticed that her work is great. It is a waste that she is a rude, incompetent, and unprofessional worker. FURTHERMORE- I didn't think it could get any worse until I read this (refer to my photo) First of all, please do not run a business if you cannot communicate professionally. The previous night, I was looking at where to go but decided to wait until today. Sometimes things happen for a reason because I happen to stumble onto this place while I was out at Costco. Let me tell you, I'm glad I did especially since they took me in with very late notice. Both mother & daughter were very sweet and friendly. I was very impressed by how fast the mom was at cutting the cuticles. The major part is that she did NOT cut my skin one bit (still traumatized from my previous experience even though it was ages ago). I like fast and efficient without losing on the quality, and I believe they accomplished that. I was there for less than 1 hour for a gel mani & pedi. Another thing I like was their nail swatches. I'm a visual person, so I get a better idea of how it'll look when I apply the color to my nails. With their swatches, I just laid it on top of my nails to see if it's the color I fancy. Before coming here please just read the bad reviews and READ THE REPLIES from the owners and tell me if that is the type of business you want to give your money to and support. I left a review before and the response was so wild and unprofessional and frankly so untrue it was actually laughable, although I took it down because her reply was so irrelevant and made it seem as though I was the problem. After every bad review or interaction it seems its a pattern for her to respond always blaming the customer with nasty comments and insults... ive never seen a business respond in such ways. I work in customer service as a server and am very aware of certain people that may be entitled or rude. I would never go into any place and be that way. Basically my experience is that I found this salon that is open late and I just got off of work. So I parked outside and started to look it up online for maybe 5 mins? I was smoking and chilling in my car before I wanted to go inside. The lady comes out my car pretty rude already telling me it was a "private salon" and that I cannot park here. I said yes I am here for the salons and interested in getting my nails done. She said she only takes appointments but will take me anyway. When I got inside I was nothing but my normal self but the two ladies continued to make comments like yes this is a private salon not just ANYONE can park here.? Ive never heard of a "private" salon before so I simply asked what do they mean by that. She answered as if I was attacking her and was incredibly sarcastic, rude, and hostile. She looked at me like im dumb and what what do you mean what does it mean?? The rest of the comversation leading up was just weird and uncomfortable. I picked up on them being rude towards me and I simply said i feel like you are being rude and she laughed in my face. I just walked out because id rather not give my money or service to people like that. She has no manners or hospitality. Im shocked to see that she has loyal customers with how many bridges she has burned already. To this day ive never had an experience like that anywhere Ive been. I left so confused... it seemed as if they were annoyed that I was a walk in. Id much rather they just told me no walk ins and I would have left no problem. But instead she told me she would take me anyways and then made me feel as if im intruding. Of course she will deny everything. But what would I have to lie for? I have never left a bad review ever but I feel the need to warn others. She seems to be very nasty and not treat others with respect. All I did was ask her a question normally and her body language was very hostile and her tone was disrespectful. It seems as though I was bothering them and still to this day Im not sure why or what her problem is. Seems like this happens a lot. She will try and claim my eyes were "bloodshot" and i was incapable of holding a conversation. What a reach, you have nothing else to come up with to defend yourself. You dont need to remind me of any laws. I wasnt doing anything "illegal" in my car. And yes you are allowed to ask me questions. But you did NOT. You were rude and told me I couldnt park there even though i was in fact there for the salon. And what a LIAR you are. You did not kick me out from the premises. Found this gem right in my hometown. Right on my old block. Nails by N was a wonderful experience. I was able to get an appointment about an hour out and which was fine. When we arrived we were kindly greeted at the door and welcomed in. We sat down for maybe five minutes while we picked out colors and we're quickly into the pedi chairs. Had a nice massage in the massage chair too! Jen was so friendly, fun and nice. Also, the location is clean and secure! Love that part! read more
