It was already time for a fresh set anyway, so I thought I had planned enough time before my event to get my nails done. Well... apparently every woman in the DMV had the same idea on a Saturday afternoon. I stopped by FIVE different nail salons with no luck. Everybody was BUSY. Silly me...Saturday afternoon, what did I expect? At that point, I decided to start heading toward DC since my dinner reservations were in the city. That's how I randomly landed at Star Nails, which is nowhere near my usual area. From the beginning, the customer service was friendly and pleasant. They were busy too, BUT this salon was much bigger and had more staff, so it finally looked like these nails were going to get done. YAY! Don't get too excited. The first tech told me the full set would take over an hour. Wait... WHAT?! Sir, I have a good 45 minutes MAX. I still had to drive about 30 minutes in traffic to get to the restaurant. I was willing to risk it IF he was fast and started IMMEDIATELY. He wasn't, y'all. He was fumbling, stopping, and I could feel my stress level rising by the minute. He could clearly sense my irritation too and realized this was not going to work. ENTER TRAN. AKA SUPERMAN. ‍ Tran swooped in with the calmest voice and energy and SAVED MY DAY. Instead of trying to redo everything, he focused on the emergency: my two broken nails. He matched my existing base color as closely as possible, which wasn't easy because I had gotten my nails done somewhere else, and recreated my French manicure. And listen, I KNOW my entire set needs to be redone. Lol...but the base color matches my skin beautifully, so Tran's repair bought me a few more days without my nails looking crazy. They still looked elegant and classy... like me. And YES, it matters! I talk with my hands, I notice people looking at them, AND I was heading to a very upscale restaurant. I refuse to be sitting there looking fabulous with two busted nails. Tran was so sweet, patient, and calming throughout the whole thing. When he finished, I went to the front to pay while he moved on to his next customer. The front desk staff smiled at me and said: "He saved your day, didn't he?" I said, "He sure did!" Star Nails is nowhere near my house or an area I frequent often, but I may have to make my way back so Tran can do my FULL set next time. Of course... when I actually have more than 45 minutes.

When I moved, one of the things I worried about most was finding a stylist who was REALLY good -- and somehow I ended up with such a gift in Clara. She has growing hands for real! My hair is the healthiest it has ever been, and I know that's because she takes the time to actually care for my hair, not just make it look good when I leave the salon. When I had scalp issues she wouldn't let up on me going to a dermatologist to truly get the issue treated so we could make sure my scalp was as healthy as my hair.
