On Friday, I decided to check out the new nail salon that just opened near my house. The place that was there before wasn't so great, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Well, my expectations were definitely exceeded. For starters, the place looks great inside. The new owners have done an amazing job decorating and it now looks more elegant than it did before. I got there as soon as they opened and decided on a mani/pedi. The place was immaculate, there were plenty of OPI and Essie colors to choose from and the woman who did my nails - Sandra - was wonderful, personable, and excellent at her job. I especially appreciated the mini massage that she gave me on my shoulders as I waited for my nails to dry! I have to say that I got a way better mani/pedi than ones that I've gotten at a certain large salon/spa in Montclair for half the price ($26!!). Needless to say, this alone would have been enough to make me come back. But what happened AFTER my services is what really will keep me coming back... Like a moron, I left my engagement ring in the ring keeper after I got my heavenly hand massage. This wasn't just any ring. It once belonged to my husband's grandmother. So, as you can guess, it's pretty invaluable in a sentimental kind of way. Of course, I didn't realize the ring was missing until that evening. Frantic, I tried to retrace my steps, thinking about where I could have lost it. I finally realized that it must have been at the nail salon. As you can imagine, I had a fitful night of sleep that evening! I arrive at the salon the next morning - a full 24 hours after I had left it - thinking for sure that it wouldn't be there. It was. I couldn't believe it! A number of things could have happened, but Sandra recognized me as soon as I arrive and got the owner/manager to get my ring. There aren't many people or businesses who are this honest. They have a client for life! Great service and attention to detail! This is my go-to nail salon when I go home to Jersey. Got gels done the morning of a wedding and they lasted for 2 weeks without a chip. I would've kept it on longer if I could but my nails had grown out too quickly. They were able to replicate the nail designs that I showed them and even suggested the best polishes and colors. I've been coming to nail story spa for years simply because it's THE best nail salon in NJ/NY. I've been to so many salons in the area, but this spa takes the cake. They really know what they're doing - I get my nails customized here and they're always sooooo spot on!!! Just bring in a picture and Angie can literally duplicate it. Most nail salons tend to be dirty, but like how the other reviewers have mentioned, this place is super clean and professional. Plus the prices are reasonable - I cannot recommend this place enough!! Complete rip off!!! The place is dark and creepy. The pedicure room is like a cave. They don't sanitize the pedi tools after each customer.( I saw this for myself .) The prices are whatever they decide at the moment. Mine were as follows : $40. Just for a fill ( no color or polish ) $20. For color $10. For a design on one nail $25. Pedi. (Add $5. For a french ) My best friend got the same exact service that I did the day before me and her total bill was $80. You do the math. Never going there again! read more

If you want just solid basic manicure it's fine. If you want something nice, like literally ANY type of design, go elsewhere. Couldn't be more disappointed. This is the second time I've wasted my time here. Lesson officially learned. They over charge. Shellac is 35 (already over priced)- and then they charge an extra 15 for glitter??! Just for glitter nothing crazy..... They did such a poor job applying the glitter (which they did with a narrow nail art brush-why?) That I had them actually remove it. this was a huge waste of time and a joke of a salon. I'm leaving here without any polish because they can't apply simple glitter. Went today for the first time to get gel nails and color. Being a Tuesday afternoon, I didn't expect it to be packed. I still made an appointment for 2. Linda greeted me and did my nails. She did a superb job; she took her time in doing my nails. The place was very neat and clean. She did them just as I wanted. I liked that Linda was quiet. She asked only what was necessary. I'm not into getting my nails done and have the girl asking my life story. I was very happy and definitely will be coming back to see Linda. read more

Service was exceptional and quick. Went on Monday in the day and it was completely empty. All tools and stations were kept clean and tidy. They have a great variety of quality products and it was a pleasant experience. I was there for more than an hour because the person doing my pedicure took their time which I liked and the design I chose for my nails also took extra time. Today was my second time at this salon. Last time I got gel (35$) which was totally fine except that my nail technician ( I believe he's the only man there) smoked right before which caused my hands and back to then smell like cigarettes by the time I left. Today I just got a regular mani which I haven't gotten in years. I am not very happy because my technician did not push back my cuticles much causing my mani to look old right away. I would have done a much better job myself but wanted to treat myself. I was not really able to speak with her about it as she did not understand much English. The ladies that work there are extremely personable and do a very nice job. They have a huge array of gel colors too :). I am so glad I stumbled upon Nail Story. I have tried many nail salons in Wayne, West Orange, Montclair, etc and this is the best by far. SO clean. One of the cleanest nail salons I have been to. They have told me before their owner is obsessed with keeping things clean and organized, and it shows. They are always super accommodating to try new nail styles and never turn you away, even if you walk in just a few minutes before they are supposed to close. They have tons of colors to choose from, and they are all organized in a great color scheme to help you select your color choice. They also don't charge extra to remove a Gel Manicure, which many other places are doing these days. I love Nail Story! read more

I had such a pleasant experience at Nail Story Spa! It was incredibly relaxing, and the staff was friendly! Great atmosphere, beautiful, and sterile. Even the basic mani/pedi package ($28 on a week day!) has everything you need. And if you wanted, you could easily spend more for all the extras like gel polish, waxings, reflexology, spa treatments and more! I've had some awful experiences at other places, so I stray away from places that regularly offer a $25 or less mani/pedi deal. I go for $30+ usually. It pays to spend more. At Nail Story Spa, they do everything with care and they don't rush or make you feel like you are unwanted or on an assembly line. They take their time and do everything with attention to detail, which is important, especially when getting down the nail polishing. I loved my experience at Nail Story Spa, and I'm definitely going to continue going there regularly. *Note* They also have a little membership you could join! It's a one time $5 fee and then you rack up points every time you go there that will earn you free rewards. I've been going here regularly for awhile now. I love how the pedicure area is tucked into its own separate room, like a cozy little cave. They have a variety of pedicures to choose from, ranging from a regular pedicure to a full blown Dead Sea spa pedicure. The Lime Zest pedi is my favorite. They use gel products that don't destroy your nails. Prices are reasonable and you can get their membership card for a one time rate of $5 and earn points towards free services. That's the one little flaw though. You only earn 1 point per $10 spent so it takes a lot of spending to earn something free and it seems kind of silly, but so be it. It is such a nice atmosphere with smooth jazz playing in background and separate area for manicures and pedicures. After terrible experiences trying to walk-in to 2 other nail salons, I went home and found a salon in the general area. I actually thought this was a place I'd been to before, so I called and made an appointment for the next morning. This was not the place I had been thinking of, but that wasn't a big deal, nor would it have influenced my decision. First, I was greeted/welcomed by two friendly people, which was refreshing after my experiences the day before. I had the same person for my pedicure and manicure. She was really nice, and attentive. I had broken my toe years ago, so it doesn't always cooperate - she checked it and fixed the polish at least once or twice during/after my manicure. During my manicure, I was a bit disappointed that she cut my (already short) nails, but I realized after she had started, so that's somewhat my fault for not paying attention or clearly stating not to cut them. Then, when I went to pay, I was definitely surprised by the price, perhaps my fault for not asking over the phone (lesson learned). There's a sign somewhere that says mani/pedi $28 - which I later found out is only Mon - Wed or certain hours on those days (this was a Sat). Then, there was a $5 up charge for the polish I picked. In their defense, there was a sign next to the polish that said $5, but first thing on a Saturday morning, this did not register in my brain. I think it's a bit crazy to charge $5 for a coat (or two) of nail polish, but it was marked - so, again my fault. With tip, and $5 up charge, my mani/pedi came out to approx $45, which is way too expensive for me to do on a regular basis, especially with more affordable deals in the area. Update: a couple days later, my pedicure still looks great, but my nails started chipping within a day or two, and not due to anything excessive on my part - not sure if it's the polish or procedure read more

Came here on a Saturday in need of some tips. Only after a lengthy discussion in their native tongue, did my nail tech and the male nail tech, did they give me two options. The first, $55, would last 2-3 weeks, or, the second, $110, would be permanent (is there even such a thing?). Went with $55 option. They looked beautiful and were shaped nicely. Not even two days later, first nail gone. Called and had to make an appointment for Friday because nail tech not available until then. By Tuesday morning, two gone, another one cracked and about to go. Called again to complain. Went in on Wednesday, male nail tech replaced 3 nails (for free) and added powder that was not initially added. Not sure if it was added as a courtesy, but why the inconsistency??? The lengthy price discussion at beginning of my first visit should have been my first clue that something was amiss at this joint! Never again! Complete waste of a LOT of money! read more

So I was looking for a new place, checked out the reviews and decided to go. I went on a Saturday, with no appointment at 2:00 pm. It was pretty quiet, but for my pedicure I had 3 different people to work on me. I got the Aromatic pedi for $40, can't say it was worth it and for the price I've had better. For my nails, FYI they do not do acrylics, only powder fill and it was costly $50!! They charged me for gel polish.That price I could definitely get them done for far less. I'll see how it wears over the next few weeks but this was a costly 1st experience. Oh and also, you must tip with cash, not permitted to put on your card. read more

I've only been at Nail Story Spa for the eyelash extensions and it is by far the best I have been to. I've gone to a few places in the city and around NJ but this place is the best. My lashes were beautiful and long and lasted much longer than other places. I'm extremely picky with my lashes & have asked a few other lash studios to redo some lashes since I felt them prick my eyelids. With Nail Story Spa, they do an impeccable job! Went here twice, first time she did my nails after just 3 days the color gel was completely peeling up. I ended up going back to my salon and they said it's because they applied the oil on my cuticles before the gel (which is exactly what she did). I went because it's very close to me and I figured I'd try. My pedicure was fine not great just fine. The polish I chose must have been old or left open because it was really thick upon application and sure enough it chipped on my big toe that very night after a shower. I'll stick to my regular salon and continue going a bit out of my way. read more

I tried Nail story a few times and was not overwhelmed by the experience. Don't get me wrong...it was OK but nothing different or extraordinary as other reviewers had me thinking. Although they are pleasant, I didn't find any warmth at all in the manicure. The so-called massage was awful, why bother at all? I needed my eye brows done and the tech poured hot wax over and under my brows, ripped it off and went on to her next client, who was already seated and waiting (BTW- I had scheduled the waxing when I scheduled my mani, so it was planned). She didn't pluck away any strays or trim the brow. She didn't even pay attention to the shape of my natural brow. As far as pricing, I get gels done so the $40.00 charge was expected and reasonable. HOWEVER....this place charges extra for color!!!! I have never heard of this but they charge an extra $5.00 for OPI or Essie color after the gel application or $20.00 extra (YES!!!$20.00) if you prefer the gel colors. So your $40.00 bargain is now $60.00 because you want the color to last longer.(I do love the durability of the gel colors). It is difficult to find a good manicure and Nail Story will do if I am desperate, but my search continues. Again, there was nothing wrong with the mani, but it wasn't a relaxing experience, especially once another customer walked in as the next appointment. It may have just been the tech that was assigned to me, also. Nothing special here. read more
