I loved my manicure from here! This was my first time getting this type of gel and I got it with the monthly special design. They paint on the gel with a paint brush and it is a little thicker than other gel manicures that I have gotten. My manicurist really took her time with filing my nails and the application of the gel itself. For the amount of work that went into the design, I think $60 was a steal! The design incorporated the use of foil, which I never had before but I love the effect! It is so cool! I also have to say that there customer service was great! This salon is found on the second floor of a building on Bowery. There is little markings that scream out salon so if you were looking on Yelp you might miss this place. Upon stepping into the salon the owner and other staff seem friendly and open. They have a first time gel manicure with design special $50. So I decided to get that with a pedicure. Not many colors to choose from. For non gel pedi, they use long lasting nail Polish which is great but they also charge $40 for a standard pedicure. There are no comfy spa chairs to sit in. And they use a basin of water for your pedicure which I'm not a fan of. For my manicure, the owner was pressed for time so I couldn't do anything fancy which was sad. I was disappointed. She didn't charge me for extra for the removal of my previous gel manicure which was nice. I was expecting the manicure to be a bit more detailed but it seemed very no frills. They don't soak your cuticles or any of that. However the design that she did do turned out really nice. read more

I found the service to not be poor however I thought the experience was bad. I also felt the pricing was a bit too high and unclear. I think their objective as soon as you sit down is to see how to up the price of your service any way possible. I had to pay $20 extra to get French instead of the regular manicure. I found this place after looking on Yelp for a nail salon near me. I came here before Christmas to get my nails done. It was near my gym so I decided to stop by here after my class. It was hard to find because they are on the 8th floor of a building. When I walked in, I noticed how small they were. It didn't look like the typical nail salon that I'm used to. There were a few manicure tables and a bench for their waterless pedicures. Everything seem so cramped. Since I was a walk in, I had to wait about 20min for a manicurist to become available to do gel nails. They had a monthly nail art special for new clients so I decided to give that a try since the holidays were coming up. I got a rhinestone added to the 4th fingernail of each hand. The lady was very nice and explained to me that they are different from other salons because they use a Japanese gel which is better than other gel. As she was applying rhinestone, I noticed how thick the stone was. I didn't think it would bother me but when I went to work the next day and touched my fingernail, my nail felt very sensitive and heavy. I thought it was something to get used to since I don't usually get that type of nail art. The sensitivity decreased eventually over time but it never went away completely. The application of this Japanese gel took a little longer than usual too. And the instruments brushes that were used came out of a drawer. They were wiped off with alcohol. I know the brush can't be sterilized but it would have been nice to see that the metal instruments were sterile, especially since they charge a high price for their service. I would expect more (ie appearance, sterility) from a place that charges so much. I'm not sure if I would come back here again. read more

Came here with my Yelp account representative for a business meeting. I hadn't realized I had been here before with another vendor until I walked in. This isn't like a normal nail salon- there are no sinks or water for your feet, and it looks dirty. My girl did a good job on my feet, but my manicure was another story. While it looks great, she made me bleed on my pinky and ring finger on my left hand very badly. Not only did she not apologize, but she also blamed ME for the bleeding because "my fingers were so dry that the second she touched them they bled...." Um ok....I asked her if they would get infected (because she didn't clean them specially and I had seen other reviews on here that people have gotten infections), and she said of course not. It's also worth noting that I don't get my nails done often, but when I do, I go gel. This special Japanese gel manicure they do has ruined my nails to the point where they're so brittle they bend at the slightest point of contact. I've been getting gels for years with no issues, and after 1 of these Japanese gels, my nails haven't been the same. I don't recommend this salon, and I will actively recommend my regular salon (out of the way of my office) when vendors ask to take me out to get my nails done. read more

Here's the breakdown of my rating: -50/5 for not taking responsibility for their mistake. While I appreciate a response from the owner, the fact remains that I take incredibly good care of my nails and hands and did not simply incur an infection on my own. My manicurist cut into my skin on this nail to the point of drawing blood and that is where the infection was. This is clearly a causation and not correlation. Because they do not take responsibility for this, I also know no practices will change and therefore the risk of infection is still just as present as it was the first time. I will not be back. 5/5 artwork creativity 5/5 taking input and checking in with me 5/5 long lasting gel 4/5 gel removal and manicure shaping 3/5 atmosphere 3/5 price ($80 manicure + $16 tip) 2/5 uncomfortable in the environment (complaining about 20% tip and the two manicurists arguing roughly throughout the end of our manicures) -15/5 infected nail from unclean tools used to trim back skin around nail Pros: The designs are incredible, they can recreate pretty much any image you bring, my manicurist asked repeatedly for my input and made sure I was happy with everything, all attendants try to make sure nothing hurts, the Japanese gel is great for your nails and long lasting Cons: Expensive, not a full service manicure (they didn't have me wash my hands or soak my nails?), upset about a 20% tip, the manicurists fought during the manicure - but worst of all, I got an infection from unclean tools. Other: It is small but all the stations face the window, which is nice. As much as I would love to come back for the artwork, the end of my appointment left a bad taste in my mouth. Gel manicures feel like more of a commitment than when you get a regular mani so I was in the market for some fancy nail art that I'd appreciate looking at. Browsing through all the pictures it looked like I found a solid place so I requested an appointment through yelp. What piqued my interest was they have a monthly set discount so I initially was inquiring about that but once I saw the design I realized I wanted something more custom and my style. My nail artist did an amazing job at designing exactly what I wanted. She absolutely nailed it with the watercolor and gold flakes! Unfortunately what knocked down the stars for me was the tipping process. Since it was my first time I didn't know they do it through venmo if you happen to not have cash. Fine with me but don't harass me if it went through or not. I only have two hands so balancing signing, getting my card back and trying to tip on my phone wasn't exactly a smooth transaction. It ended up making my end experience extremely uncomfortable and awkward. Are people really that horrible that they would leave without tipping?! Has someone done that? Even so, please don't take it out on other customers. Also, would have been nice to have been told about new customers receiving a discount. I thought about trying this place for a while since it's only a few blocks from my work. I decided to stop in the day before a wedding. Winnie was so helpful in helping me pick colors that match my bridesmaid dress. I also broke a nail a few days prior and needed a nail extension. Winnie did an exceptional job. She was so patient. I got so many compliments at the wedding! The only reason why I took one star off is because I'm super confused about the pricing and I emailed them and no one got back to me. I was in dire need of getting my nails done since I ran out of time before I left on vacation to NY. I stumbled across Nail Couture on yelp and saw all the great reviews. I called and the owner Kylie was able to get me in the same day. I told her I wanted to get Gucci themed nails so I sent her a picture of my inspiration and she said she was able to do it. She ended up getting me into an earlier time slot and communicated with me very well so I was able to do more with my first day in NY. She has a cozy, clean nail shop that shares a space with a eyelash extension place so if you're need eyelashes done as well this is your spot! She sat me right away and started to take off my old dip powder. She was very gentle with my nails that were already feeling kind of weak which a lot of nail technicians don't really care about. She hand painted EVERYTHING THAT YOU SEE. It turned out so beautiful! I've never received so many compliments on my nails in my entire life. The whole process took about 2 hours. She charged about $60 and hour which is fair for the amount of arduous work she put into these nails. I felt like I had an art installation on my nails honestly. This is my second time at the salon after a spontaneous first visit turning out to be very delightful. Today I had to make a last minute reservation during my lunch break due to a sudden dinner event and they were able to fit me in no problem. They asked for credit card information over the phone to hold an appointment which for a mail salon felt a bit sketch but I gave the benefit of doubt. The "manicure" itself was underwhelming. I was trying to go to another nail salon around 10:30 am and when I called they said the nail tech that does dip powder won't be in for a few hours. So after a rigorous yelp search and looking at reviews and photos I decided to come here sent an appointment request around 10:50 and was told I could come! I felt relieved as I was trying to get ready for birthday festivities and my dip powder manicure had been a month old from a previous salon. After 20 minutes of showing pictures of what I wanted and sifting through beautiful nail art prospects I started to get my previous manicure removed. My nail tech was very kind and I explained to her that I usually do my nails at home but it's a very long process especially with nail art. She was very detailed with her work but she nicked me with the drill a number of times. Also dip powder is a form of acetate if you leave the cotton well saturated long enough it melts right off. She pulled the dried on cotton along with some of my natural nails as they had been a bit brittle. Overall 2 hours later the photos were the result of what I got. My nails were different lengths and shapes and it wasn't clean around the edges. I was charged 80$ for hard gel and chrome powder then 20$ for removal. Normally removal is 10$ anywhere else. 2 stars for quick accomodations and kind service. Dropped 3 stars for the quality and the price. read more

Gel nail removal was a machine file off, as were the cuticles, so essentially no cuticle care. The Surface of the table, lamp, uv lamp, absolutely everything was covered in nail file dust. The technician kept wafting the under towel all over the table and us after filing as well, so my phone on the table and I got covered. The files were not new and were old and tatty, and did not come out of any cleaning device- it made me fear on a hygiene level. I had to say something when he applied lotion onto my nail dust covered hands and he finally produced a hot towel - which was the only thing that I would consider "service". Perhaps they are great at the nail art but as a regular go to, for the price, it doesn't stand up to average service I've received in and around Manhattan. read more

Multiple reasons for a poor review: 1) the quality of products is probably not as good as they suggest. My nails have been extremely extremely weak after I got gel here. I've never had my nails this weak before, basically any impact makes them crack/peel/break... 2) while I was getting my gel done it was sooo painful/burned so badly I couldn't keep my hand under the lamp. They told me it was normal but even as I left my fingers still felt like they were burning. Additionally the application was pretty poor--a couple fingers were so thick it looked very amateur. 3) the pricing seems to be somewhat ad hoc. When I was getting my nails done a lady came in for a nail to be fixed. They charged her $10, but later discussed that it should've actually been $5...also when I was getting my gel removed they tried to charge me $20? But then the lady helping me asked someone else, who clarified it should be $10 for removal. 4) like others have said this place doesn't seem the most professional . I have some concern as to the hygiene of the tools and such. Didn't see metal tools being steamed, or disposables, instead just saw tools that sit in a cup of some sort of (hopefully) antibacterial disinfectant. And yes the designs are cute but it does look like a school more than salon. read more

Immature. I told the girl my nail was crooked, and she started filing the wrong side and made it even more crooked. So I explained specifically what side she needed to file to make it balanced, and instead of just fixing it, she got really upset and started talking to the other nail tech in her language. And then they switched chairs so the other tech started doing my nails. Then instead of asking how to fix it, the second tech just says it looks perfect to her and that I need to wait until they are finished because they will do more shaping with gel. So I don't say anything, but she is so upset for no reason that she is shaking the entire time she is doing my nails. I didn't yell at anyone, why is she shaking? Then, five minutes later, they switch positions so that the original tech is back to doing my nails. Who is so sensitive and immature that they make a scene and switch chairs instead of just doing what the client asks? This is a run-of-the-mill normal part of doing your nails, you say, "hey, this part looks a little funny," and then they fix it and move on. It would have literally taken 7 or 8 strokes with the nail file to fix it. And by the way, you both speak English and were clearly talking about the issue you have with me, so if you're going to discuss what happened with me in front of me, why not do it in English so I can participate and explain my side? And no, this is not a xenophobic comment because I also speak other languages and think we all have a right to speak any language we like, but not when you are discussing a specific issue regarding your client in front of your client. And the front desk girl walks by and also discusses with the tech in their language, and then they start laughing. And then when I am leaving, do the same thing again. Anyone knows people do this type of thing to make you feel like they are making fun of you. All over a crooked nail? The pettiness. I've been here 3 times within 6 weeks, spending over $300. And that's how you handle a simple situation where I am just asking you to fix a crooked nail? Peace out! And please don't respond with some canned reply saying I'm wrong or that you're fake sorry. Maybe you guys should just learn from this and be a little more mature next time. This crooked nail will be a reminder for the next 2 weeks to cut all petty people out of my 2019, starting with the girls at this nail shop. EDIT In response to your fake apology, Kylie, may I remind you that it was actually you who was the second technician. You didn't ask me how you can resolve the issue. You sat down, barely glanced at my nails and aggressively said there is nothing wrong and that I need to wait until everything is finished. Instead of asking how it can be resolved, you already got upset based on what the other girl said and already made up your mind that she was right. You were actually so upset that you were shaking the entire five minutes you did my nails and the tool kept rolling onto my skin because you couldn't keep still. I didn't even say a word. Had such a great experience today with Kylie! I have a formal event tonight and was able to get squeezed in for an appointment since another client canceled. This was my first time getting my nails done and I was absolutely blown away by the process, expertise and beauty. Kylie is very talented and one of the few nail artists in NYC who uses Japanese style gels. [Gel nail extensions] I had nail extensions done where she used a paper form and gel to create a longer "nail" over my natural nail. It was so fun to watch and I love the oval shape. [Design] For the design, I decided on gold glitter tips. The glitter is iridescent and so beautiful under the light. My nails will look great with my gold satin dress. :'D read more

I came on a weekday evening sans appointment to get a single color gel manicure and prior gel removal ($10 if prior gel was done at another salon, otherwise $5). The owner seemed to be in a rush to leave but was still very accommodating. They were able to start on my gel removal right away and sat me down w a Shay (spelling?) as soon as she finished another client. Shay was very friendly. She took her time to make sure my nails were cut and filed evenly, and gel and color are applied carefully . I did find the gel to be slightly thicker at the tip of my nail, which is not a big deal. Overall, she did a nice job w the shape and paint. I had to drop two stars because of the questionable quality of the products. 1) One nail chipped after 6 days (disappointing considering my previous gel nails lasted 6 weeks without even a scratch) 2) The nail color started out as maroon and now has an orange/yellow tint as if it faded or rubbed off. While it's convenient to my location, reasonable prices for midtown, and walk-ins welcome, I'm not sure if I would return if the color barely lasts a week. read more

After paying too much that for that horrible pedicure, the owner was highly irritated that I didn't want to give her employee a tip. Still trying to understand yelp algorithms. There is no rhyme or reason as to why several of the companies make it in the top 10. After reading the other positive reviews there is a clear pattern that the reviews are fake. Too many of them were 5 star ratings. Moreover with similar language and punctuation. How do we get their yelp status revoked? Next time you write a fake review at least use a 4 or 3 rating to make them seem legitimate. read more
