This was my second attempt at giving this course a chance, and unfortunately it will be my last. The first time I played here, about 18 months ago, I quit after 9 holes because the pace of play was on track for nearly six hours. On top of that, the staff in the pro shop were rude and completely unaccommodating. I chalked it up as a bad day and decided to give the course another shot. This time was somehow worse. The pro shop employee I dealt with was one of the most unfriendly and unprofessional staff members I've encountered at any golf course. I simply asked what the greens were rolling at that day, and his response was, "Doesn't matter, just play the course and figure it out." I was honestly stunned by the attitude. It wasn't joking or lighthearted--it was outright dismissive and rude. Golf courses can have great layouts and decent conditions, but customer service matters. If you're charging people good money to play, basic courtesy should be expected. Two visits, separated by over a year, and the experience with the staff was consistently terrible. If you were the gentlemen working in the pro shop on June 18, 2026 you are simply a douchebag I wouldn't return if the rounds were free. What a mess being run there. No one gives a crap or friendly. Tee time delayed 35 minutes because of poor organization and lack of direction. The most annoying aspect, the pro shop. What this guys problem? This pro acts like I'm an annoyance. Miserable time. read more

Bring your A-game! This is a pretty challenging course with some blind shots off the tee, a lot of water hazards, and frequently windy conditions, particularly on the back 9. The grass is well-maintained and the facilities are solid. I haven't interacted much with the clubhouse staff, which seems to be the primary source of complaints in other reviews, so I can't speak to that. read more

The course is very nice except lots of goose poop everywhere. The back 9 is quite windy due to the water. It's not that hard of a course but there's blind shots. THE STAFF IS SO MEAN ITS NOT EVEN FUNNY. You honestly think they are paid to be rude. It's like they don't even want to you there. I met one person who was pleasant but the clubhouse staff, course Marshall's, etc are so rude. They actually picking on you. My playing partners also from out of town were like what's their problem? The rudeness literally dropped my rating to one star from maybe 4. That's how mean they are. This was the first time I played there and I was very excited but man way to ruin it. read more

Beautiful course! We played 18 and took our time enjoying each hole. Sun was out, no crowds or waiting, greens freshly cut, and a fun challenge. We were excited to golf along the ocean, which the pictures and timing of the sunset turned out amazing! The cost per person wasn't overpriced, and staff all friendly and helpful. read more

We had a great golf experience. It's a beautiful course. The issue was the cart boy. He was obviously upset his parents made him work today. Just a prick! He was extremely rude to us when we 1st arrived and when were looking for our cart. We moved on with our golfing. When we came back to drop off the cart we asked where we leave the cart. Again extremely rude. He followed us to continue with his mouthy entitled BS. It turned into insults coming from both sides. The Marshal and another golfer witnessed this and both agreed the kid was a dick. The Marshal was kind and apologetic. We we're paying customers with questions. Unfortunately we will not return. read more

I never post but this moment required thought and sharing so others know the systemic racism at Nag's Head golf course. My husband (who has clubs and played since a child) went there with three young children. A white older male employee approached them and asked them to leave. This was all in front of my young children (Asian). They refused to sell him range balls. read more

I've played at over 85 different golf courses in my life (I collect a logo ball from each). This was my worst treatment ever by a staff. I normally read reviews about staff treatment and write them off as a person who wasn't friendly or didn't follow the rules, but there is something to this place having really rude staff. I was a single golfer trying out the course for the first time as a walk up and was met with extremely dismissive and rude behavior at the register. It was as if they didn't want my business honestly. I brushed it off, I mean we are in a pandemic, and went out to check in with the starter who was way over the top rude. I had bought a bucket of balls at their FOAM BALL DRIVING RANGE to warm up and he said, "you don't have any time for that, you better run out to the first tee if you want to play at all today." I was a little surprised, and said with a friendly tone: "I'm not in a huge rush. If there is an opening even up to 45 mins or so from now, I would love to putt and hit some balls. This is my first time here and I'm a little rusty, and in no rush. Buy hey, if this is the only spot all day, I'll take it." His response was hostile as a he got visibly angry with me: "You want to play today or not? I have no idea when I'm getting you out after this... your not getting out is your choice". I apologized and said, "Sure, if that's all you got, it's all you got right? Sounds like my only choice really." Well, this story ends with my rushing out to catch a three some already teeing off, and playing horribly to start the round. AND OF COURSE THE GROUP BEHIND US WAS A TWOSOME. Beyond the staff, this is not a course to play if you are new to the game, have trouble hitting it straight, rusty, or if it's windy. The golf course design is very very tight and very short. Water, homes, and shrubs require even a good golfer to club down throughout the round to keep it in play. This is the kind of course you really need someone who has played here before because I was hitting irons and hybrids off the tee regularly from the blue tees. The green conditions and fairways were above average. Club house was dated. The views are terrific on a number of the holes on the water, but honestly the entire experience was ruined for me by the staff. I'm not a guy that does bad reviews, but this place earned one. I do not recommend this course for any reason other than the convenience of it being close to you. There are better places to play. I've loved my experiences at Duck Woods, the Currituck Club, and Kilmarlic. read more

Just finished another great week at NHGL. This is truly a unique course where the wind is in control. The fairways are VERY generous but miss them and you in trouble. There are 5 of the most scenic holes you can play. We played 6 days in a row and were treated better than you can hope for -- we never consider going anywhere else. Everyone from the Bag attendants to the Pro Shop to the beverage cart help --- treated us like friends. We play early and pace of play was great. Play later in the evening for some spectacular views. read more

Played late August with a 4:18 tee time. The ranger/starter gave us a basic rundown of what to expect out there and was incredibly friendly. It was relatively empty and the pace of play was perfect. As for the course itself, it was well kept except for some greens that have taken a seasons long beating of golfers not repairing divots. The views are gorgeous throughout and be warned that you are constantly hitting over water, which doesn't come into play half the time except in your head. I enjoyed it more than seascape down the street and would definitely come back if only for the view on 5. read more

I couldn't have asked for any more. This was my first experience playing a links course. I was especially nervous that I hadn't picked up a golf club in close to two years. I was immediately at ease with the pleasant staff and the guy that gave us some tips before we headed out onto the course. The views were amazing and the course was a lot of fun to play. As long as you don't try to go out and bash the life out of the ball, you'll have an enjoyable time. I highly recommend to locals as well as tourists in the area who want to get a round of golf in. read more

I never got to play. I booked my tee time thru golf.com and was accepted. Golf.com does not give refunds. About 5 minutes before I was ready to leave, I checked my email and received a cancellation. The email made it look like I cancelled, so I contacted golf.com. They said the course was closed to bad weather. It's sunny and 78 degrees. Was the course flooded? People were playing yesterday. Why do they take your money if they aren't open? And why does it take 3-5 days to get your refund? I never did receive my refund. read more

Our group has been coming to Nags Head Golf Links for a week each year for 25+ years. We come for the service as much as the great golf course. The course is beautiful and in good shape the reason I gave it three stars is they do not let you know how far it is to a hazard in the Fairway there's a few holes that have water running across the Fairway and there's nothing that tells you the distance they need computers in the golf carts that would help a tremendous amount whenever I pay over $100 to golf I want as much help as possible on knowing what club to hit read more

Nice golf course in the Outer Banks, NC. "Keep your woods in the car" is the theme for this course. The fairways are narrow, but if you control your irons and fairway woods well, you can score well on this course. I'm a beginner (don't really have a handicap), but I ignored the sage words and still took out my driver. Surprisingly, I hit quite well with the beast, and put myself in such a position that I birdied 2 holes. And they were my first birdies ever! (I scored over 100, so that tells you what type of golfer I am). There are a few holes that play alongside the water, so the views were really nice. However, I found it strange to see how close some of the townhomes were to the course. They were literally in the middle of the course. It is a private club, so I'm sure most of the people treat the course with respect. Good course with nice scenery. read more

Great course but the Marshall literally followed us hole to hole from the practice green until we were about half way through our round. I don't know why, I was playing pretty well and our group was ahead of pace of play. It was very annoying and I have never experienced this at any other course. He also rushed us from the practice green even though our tee time wasn't for another 45 minutes. Barely got 3 chips and 3 putts in. read more

I played this course with my son yesterday and absolutely loved it. The starter was very friendly and helpful, and the course was in fantastic shape. A kid met us in the parking lot with a cart when we arrived and loaded our bags onto and off the cart at the beginning and end. Customer service at its finest. As for the course - what a great layout. Not a long course, but definitely challenging. I only pulled the driver out on about a third of the holes. Lots of doglegs, strategically placed water, and other hazards really make you think and choose to layup instead of just swinging away with the driver. The wind off the sound on the back nine made the last couple of holes very challenging. That last Par 3 was tough, and I was happy to walk away with a bogey. Overall, a terrific experience. I definitely recommend this course and will absolutely come back. read more

If I could leave no stars I would. Booked first tee time of the day for myself, on vacation w fam..... after a less than pleasant encounter with Walter to check in... I putt and head to the tee box. Starter tells me I'm going off 10 minutes after my scheduled time because members will now be going off in-front of me and I'm paid with not 1 not 2 but 3 other people. (1-2 is fine, I get that, 3 other people and pushing the tee time, that's ridiculous.) went back in for a refund, Walter gives me my starter ticket as a receipt (refunds are hard and annoying for Walter) after asking for a receipt instead of starter ticket, Walter calls me a liar and says that is my receipt.... This is so baffling that a grown man acts like this... after persisting to get an actual receipt solely because Walter is sketchy and I don't think he would have really given me a refund, he flicks the receipt across the counter at me... don't waste your time, this is the stuck up country club old school that the game of golf is trying to move away from. Big tip: just go somewhere else, other courses are nicer w nicer people read more

Decent course, but be very weary of leaving any and all items behind. Left my GoPro attached to my cart and called 15 min after I left to asked if they could secure it for me. Golf shop said they would check and call me back. They never bothered to call and when I called them they seemed less than concerned. Good news is, video was recording when I returned my cart and I should be able to access it when I get home. read more

The golf course had some wonderful holes along the water. Some of the holes were narrow and blind, which made this a challenging and fun course to play. Greens were true and in excellent shape. The women get a big advantage from the red tees. The bag boy, Zach, was friendly. Strangely for a southern place, the pro shop guy and restaurant guys were rude and impatient. Food was quite boring and overpriced for a simple sandwich w/o a drink or chips. Eat elsewhere along The way either before or after. read more

Got a deal on a website for a round of 18 for 44$ each, this week will be my third time playing this course, it's worth every penny, discount or none, the view is unreal. Only gripe is the proximity of the houses to the course, one bad slice and you may be hitting out of someone's back yard. read more

This review is in regards to the private events staff. We scheduled an appointment to come view the venue and speak with the event coordinator, Torry, about two weeks jn advance. We had to correct her scheduling mistake several times because she kept emailing the wrong date, finally confirming the right date and time. We drove almost 6 hours to get there, only to sit and wait for almost an hour with ZERO contact from her letting us know that she would not be there. The bartender in the Grill was extremely friendly and offered to call and text her, but got no response. I just can't believe how inconsiderate and rude this chic is. Unbelievable that she can hold this job! We finally heard from her about an hour late by email saying she wasn't going to make it.... Um duh! Think we had that fingered out, thanks for the notice, NOT! Still so annoyed! I would never ever recommend anyone using this space for an event. Besides her rude inconsiderate ways, we were also very disappointed with the size of the room and feel as though we were mislead as to how many people it could hold. The Point Golf Club is a much better choice! Owners drove out in the middle of the worst of the tropical storm to show is the venue, even with no power! The two stars here go to the bartender and only the bartender at Nags Head! read more
