I recently bought a cake from Nadine's , and while the flavor itself was really good, the overall structure of the cake was disappointing. The cake had three layers, and instead of balancing it with a stable layer of buttercream, it was filled with an excessive amount of soft strawberry filling. When we tried to cut into it, the layers started to slide apart because there wasn't enough support holding everything together. It felt like there was way too much filling and too thick amount of frosting, which made the cake unstable and messy to serve. Although the taste was enjoyable, the presentation and structure made it difficult to fully appreciate it. A better balance between filling and buttercream would have made a big difference. read more

Ordered 3 dozen cupcakes and a smash cake for my daughter's birthday and was extremely disappointed. Paid almost $150 because they were specialty cupcakes with filling yet they barely had any filling in them, most had a dime size amount. I was looking for a German Chocolate Cake for my mom's birthday. I don't live in Tucson, but my sister and I were coming to town for her birthday. I researched bakeries in Tucson and Nadine's was highly rated so I gave them a call to see if they could make the cake. They inquired about the size I wanted and assured me that they could definitely make the cake I wanted. Then they asked if I wanted flowers and writing - I told them I didn't know that could be done on a German Chocolate cake and they assured me it could so I told them what I wanted. The price was very reasonable! When I picket it up, they showed me the cake and I was very pleasantly surprised - it was German Chocolate but decorated! When we got it home and cut into it, the cake itself was moist and the caramel/nut filling was very good. The cake was very rich and will provide many servings! The decorations were great as well. Great bakery and kosher as well. Ample parking off Broadway, in the same strip mall as Tucson ER and Hospital. They have a fantastic selection, have tried cake slices, pastries and cookies. Have had a hard time finding cookies like these in Tucson and was delighted to have had the variety they offer to choose from. The cherry almond cookies are a favorite. Nadines is one of my favorite bakeries in Tucson. I have never had a bad experience with them. Two years ago we ordered our wedding cake from them and it was delicious. On our one year anniversary they replicated a smaller version for us and it still tasted the same. We visit them frequently and they never miss. Everyone is always friendly and it's always clean inside. The pasties and sweets always look great and fresh. My husband loves Cannolis, but is allergic to chocolate so we have to get custom made ones. They go the extra mile to call us before they add the chocolate chips to the batter so we can order non chocolate ones. I will always highly recommend them and use them for all my cake orders. read more

I recently moved to Tucson and found Nadine's after a Yelp search for tres leches cake. The lady that took my order last week was friendly and efficient. When I arrived this morning to get the cake for the luncheon, I was pleased that the cake was ready and the decoration was so awesome. I came here on an impromptu visit for my birthday. I literally only had a half hour for lunch and wanted something shareable for my birthday. I walked in and even though there were only 2 cheesecakes in their fridge out in the lobby, it turns out that was exactly what I needed. Now that I live in central Tucson I can go easily to pick up breakfast rolls, danish, pastries, cream puffs, rugula , cakes, breads, and cookies by the pound. I recently purchased my wedding cake here and it was wonderful. I have always had a very positive experience with all the staff there. They have all sorts of treats to get at the ready: from lemon bars, eclairs, magic bars or Leto layer cakes for special occasions. Its a small bakery that does a fair amount of catering and cake orders. Very helpful staff that can answer any question you pose to them. Very comfortable shop that's laid out nicely. We bought two cakes for my milestone birthday. They were beautifully decorated; however, the taste left something to be desired. The cake was oddly dense and lacking something in flavor: salt? Vanilla? Gluten? I don't know. The icing was also lacking. It seemed like just shortening and sugar with no vanilla or butter flavoring in the butter cream. I especially like their white cake with lemon filling but have enjoyed all flavors. If you pick out a cake from their case, they will write on it right away to take it with you or you can call and order ahead. There are a lot of cookies to choose from and one favorite is the chocolate chunk cookies that are big and delicious. The shortbread cookies are always good. The pastries and cakes like lemon poppy seed are also great. Yes, there are calories galore but worth it for a special occasion. Or just a treat. I was excited to use a local bakery instead of a grocery store chain. I chose Nadine's because they advertised custom cakes, & I thought what I wanted was pretty simple: a LEGO themed giant cookie cake. Went into the store, asked if they could do anything like this, & from behind a bakery counter full of cookies, the girl just said, "No, we don't make those." You would think that a bakery that makes small chocolate chip cookies could easily make a big one & decorate it, but they didn't even offer to try. Safeway was easily able to accommodate our request though - the girl even looked up designs on the internet to get an idea of what we wanted. I guess staying competitive isn't much of a priority anymore. read more

I nipped in to pick up some random pastries for breakfast and was utterly tantalized. Everything looked so good. I found the orange biscotti somewhat lacking in orange (though still tasty). The cigars were so, so good: nutty and sweet without being too crumbly or sticky. I appreciated that the items were priced labeled clearly in the case; I find at many other pastry shops it's hard to know exactly what I'm getting into. Sold me stale cherry vanilla square cookies. I came back to return them and the front desk woman went back and forth about how they're guaranteed fresh. The thing is, I had these cookies a week prior. So how could they have went from crunchy and delicious to soft and milder in flavor. They were clearly stale and not fresh. Every single cookie (I bought a 18) were soft and bendy and the cherry vanilla flavor was almost nonexistent. The woman swore up and down even though I bent the cookies in front of her.
