Had a 3 night stay here, it is located on/near the water. The view from the room was great & you can watch beautiful sunsets from there. The lobby is clean with helpful & attentive workers. The rooms and bathrooms were decent size. The rooms provide you with basic needs- body wash, shampoo/conditioner. Pillows were soft & beds were comfy. We were incredibly fortunate that as part of our riverboat cruise, we opted to have two extra days in Amsterdam and as a result, our Viking Cruise folks booked us at the Movenpick Hotel. The hotel is located at the ship terminal and as a result it's a very convenient for travelers who are either planning to embark or disembark. However, it's also a wonderful hotel for anyone who wants to be located near the Amsterdam Central bus and train station. When we first arrived, we thought we were far away from the museums and restaurants but once we took a few minutes to study the tram schedules, the Number 26 stops at the Muziekgebouw ( their huge music concert hall) , which is next to the hotel. We were especially grateful to the wonderful concierge staff and Tina Maddaloni, who was the Manager on Duty and who helped provide us with such personalized service, you might have thought we we're returning guests! Our room was spacious and had a beautiful view of the water and parts of the city. When making your reservations, you should definitely ask to have their breakfast buffet included! I found the selection of breakfast items to be spectacular with everything from an omelette chef to vegetable smoothies. There were more stations of meats, salmon, cheeses as well as the largest honeycomb I'd ever seen! The dining area comprises over three large rooms with a large staff constantly cleaning up dishes and offering assistance. We also had dinner at the hotel one evening and we were surprised by how delicious our meals were. The hotel also brags about their homemade ice cream and we have to agree, it was spectacular! Before writing my review, I read some of the other Yelp comments. I'm always curious of the ones that are very negative and I guess it's impossible for a big hotel to make everyone ( always) happy. However, my wife and I were especially fortunate, since we hadn't done the research in advance but were very fortunate to have landed at such a classy hotel! Never have I ever had a more convenient hotel right before a cruise - AMAZING! We checked in around 11:30pm after a long flight, and with no food options we grabbed some sundries from the self serve kiosk which was enough - some instant noodle , chips, drinks and ice cream (which was delicious btw). Room was spacious and comfortable , plenty of USB plugs , staff was friendly and accommodating - we slept like logs. The next day we set out to explore Amsterdam before boarding our cruise ship - and didn't realize that BAM! The cruise terminal was literally next door ! It's beyond awesome. In terms of location, you are a quick walk to the main central train terminal and maybe a 20 minute walk to the heart of Amsterdam - totally doable. We had tickets to the Anne Frank House in the morning and took a leisurely walk there and walked back - all in time to grab our luggage from the room (with late check out provided until noon) and board the ship next door. So awesome 10/10 - if I do another cruise from Amsterdam, this is where I'm staying. read more

We stayed here for one night prior to our scheduled River cruise the following day. Unlike some other reviewers we did not luck out with an early check-in, arriving at 11 AM after a long flight from California. So after going through our luggage in the lobby to extract suitable attire for a cold rainy day, we stowed our luggage until check in time and wondered around Amsterdam. The location was close to where our boat would dock, and the Canal cruises and city center were walkable, 15 to 20 minutes away. Other areas, like the Anne Frank museum and the 9 Streets required a taxi ride (we didn't have time to figure out the tram system). Finally checking in, we found a lovely room with an expansive view of the harbor. The room was ideal: comfortable bed, large bathroom, coffee service - everything we needed. The modern shower could've used an instruction manual - any tweaks resulted in ice cold water! We figured out if we just turned it on and didn't change anything the heat level was acceptable. We had upgraded for the breakfast option, which was well worth it. European hotel breakfasts definitely put America to shame - this was basically a restaurant Sunday brunch buffet equivalent. About the service: really exemplary. Everyone we interacted with were friendly, english-proficient, and happy to answer any question or resolve any problem with a smile. The contrast with our accustomed service at U.S. hotels was striking. We definitely would return here on any future visit to Amsterdam. read more

Located relatively close to the city center and just next to a canal with boat dock, bus and train stop, this hotel is easy to get in and out of. The rooms are just ok, however. I'm not a fan of this much carpet, and many rooms are two twin beds pushed together, such as mine. Clean, just not my style or preference. My room doors card reader batteries died and I had to have those changed so I could get in my room. Bar closes at 11, not much to do immediately in the vicinity of the hotel either, so plan accordingly. Staff are all very nice. read more

This hotel was perfect for our needs. We were taking a river cruise, so therefore we could walk to the dock when it was time to board. What blew my mind with gratitude (don't know if this was a Viking cruise thing...) was when we checked in at 10:30 a.m. after flying all night they gave us a room. If you've ever flown internationally and had to store your bags then wander around with wicked jet lag you know how huge that is! The room was standard but a nice size. I felt like the breakfast buffet had a lot to offer, including an omelette station. All was good quality. It's about a fifteen minute walk to the Centraal Station and the beginning of things to see. It's much easier to cross the main road at the hotel and jump on a tram. The trams will easily take you all over Amsterdam - just buy the pass you need for the hour, day, week, etc. If I ever come back to this beautiful city I'd stay here again. read more

Wow! Booked 5 months in advanced. Check in with Nickos went flawless. Room was as expected online. Had a Junior Suite for 3, all prepared for our arrival. Stocked mini bar, Executive Lounge and a full stocked breakfast included. Service in the morning was excellent. Extremely large selection of items to choose from, unbelievable! Makes USA look like a 2nd class country. Dinner in their 2nd floor dining room On the first night was fantastic Service top notch the supervisor on duty Saunders on top of his game full of energy and so was everybody else who was working that night with him, meal presentation, above par service and quality It seems if you wanna eat in the dining room check first to see if supervisor. Saunders is working if so, he will have a great time. Princess and Prince are top notch Servers, catering to your needs in advance. This was a very nice and accommodating hotel. Diane and I were furnished with a room two hours before check in time, after arriving in the early a.m. from our all-night non-stop KLM flight from LAX. The bar provided a silver bucket of ice without charge. A current adapter was furnished by the front desk. Concierges provided helpful dining, attraction, and city transportation information. And the hotel even made available for me its two hot saunas and soothing relaxation room beyond closing time, which extended slightly past midnight one evening. Pre-planned daily activities prevented us from sampling any of the hotel's food offerings. But our Classic King Bed room was nicely furnished, with a sweeping view of the river right next door to the passenger cruise terminal, which was certainly convenient when we boarded Holland America Line's newest ship, the Nieuw Statendam, bound for Norway and the Arctic Circle three days later. All staff encountered were friendly and helpful, and our bed quite comfortable. I would definitely stay here again when revisiting fun-filled and cosmopolitan Amsterdam. read more

Visited Amsterdam here for a few days and stayed here. Absolutely great experience! The rooms were large and had plenty of space. The beds and sheets were clean and comfortable. We had a great view of the river from where we were at. My favorite part was the fridge was completely stocked with beer and wine, and entirely complimentary! Not to mention the complimentary happy hour with snacks and more wine. We would get breakfast in the morning and the selection is large. They even have an omlette/egg bar for fresh eggs! The staff were amazing and answered all questions. Amsterdam city center and centraal station were also a quick 20 minute walk. Will definitely stay here at next time I'm in Amsterdam! read more

the hotel is located close to Amsterdam Station where you can hop on a tram for 2.5 Euro that will take you into the city. Trains are also available. If you want to walk from the Movenpick to Amsterdam center it is about 20 minutes. The hotel is modern in design and furnishings. I have pictures so that you can see what a room looks like. I was on the 7th floor and they go up to 18 floors. There are four elevators which are modern, smooth and activated by your room key for added security. I slept well on the bed which accommodated my 6' height. The tub was deeper then most tubes and had a shower. It was nice to soak in the tub after a day of sightseeing. There is a refrigerator in the room (small), lock box and flat screen TV with lots of channels. There is a parking garage under the building. The complimentary breakfast was above average. You need to show your room key. I particularly liked the smoked salmon and varieties of whole grain breads. They had fruit, many varieties of eggs, hot and cold cereals, Danish, muffins, sausages, etc. to mention some of the choices. It's buffet style but there are employees that will clean the plates off your table. I had a good chat with several.The place is well maintained and everyone is extremely helpful. I asked so many questions and got complete accurate answers. Don't be afraid to ask for museum advise and tickets. I visited the Rijksmuseum and The Het Scheepvaartmuseum National Maritime Museum which were both outstanding and suitable for all ages. Dinners at the hotel restaurant are pricey but there are so many nearby places to eat that it is not a problem to leave the hotel. The hotel is situated in a safe and nice neighborhood. I highly recommend the Movenpick and would not hesitate to stay again. Deals are available on-line so you might want to look for them. read more

It is a clean & reasonably priced hotel on the ports. Sadly, it's a bit of a walk to the center of Amsterdam or Central train station. Customer service is very good. Hotel Mövenpick is a fantastic hotel! Upon our arrival we were warmly greeted by Emeil, who expediently and pleasantly got us settled. Our first impression of the hotel was big and modern! We had a room on the 19th floor that showcased an incredible water view. The bedding was exquisite, the bed comfortable which enabled us to have exceptional sleep quality. We had the included breakfast which had a vast assortment of delectable items. Everything that we tried was delicious! We appreciated the in-room Nespresso machine, it helped us get motivated! We enjoyed a couple of beverages and snacks in the bar downstairs and found the bartenders to be helpful, friendly and engaging. The food was freshly prepared and quite good. Pros- clean, modern, well furnished with a spectacular view of the harbor. Perfect for those who are taking cruses since we saw the Celebrity ship and river cruses ships docking very close by. The sundries including body lotion provided for the bathroom are generous in portion. Cons- looks on the map appears to be in the centrum but you will need to take a circuitous route up and down some stairs to get to the Central train station where most activities begin including tickets for touring. No one in the hotel seems to know where to find a specific place and surprisingly there is no concierge service. The Nespresso machine could not be turned on so they provide us with an older model. Curious as to why it only provides supplies for 2 -4 cups of coffee in the room only on the 1st day regardless of how many days one stays. On our 3rd night , we left the hotel @ around 10:00 am but found the room untouched by the cleaning crew upon our return at 4:20 pm. We had to chase down the staff to get fresh towels, this should knock the star rating down to 3.5. The breakfast buffet was expensive but subpar in many ways despite the variety of items offered. There was a line 10-people deep wait ing to order omelette or fried eggs. The soft boiled egg was rubbery. read more

The hotel itself was fine. Beds were comfy. Our issue was, I booked this hotel for my daughter and her friend. Before their stay we questioned if they had breakfast and I was informed the did and they could send me a link to add it to the booking. I said yes send me the link so I would have it in case they decided they wanted it. After talking with the other people staying there they decided they didnt want to spend $50 a piece for breakfast so we did not pay via link. After checkout there was a charge on our card which we questioned and were told it had already been reversed by the hotel and we needed to take it up with our credit card company. We disputed it with our credit card and the hotel then came back and recharged us then saying the charge was for not paying for the breakfast via link. They didnt eat breakfast. Why send a link to pay if there is no way to track who eats. As a travel advisor I would be very cautious sending any future clients to this establishment due to not being able to guarantee they wont have additional charges after check out. read more

Just south of the central station in AMS and along the water front the Movenpick tends to cater more towards the river cruise lines, etc. but I was able to book in for what was a two night stay before flying back to the states. The rooms: very comfortable, amenities such as the refrigerator, electric kettle and nespresso turned out to be a huge + as my stay was extended. Windows that open to catch the breeze and the windows are well insulated and offset noise that you would expect to get from the train tracks and waterway services. The Lobby Bar: busy in the evenings as the 2nd level restaurant was only open for breakfast. Kien makes a great Gin and Tonic. Breakfast buffet is standard with the cruise traffic; not fancy but fresh. The Staff - very professional in all areas. My stay ended up being extended as I tested + for covid and had to quarantine for five days before I could retest. The staff extended the stay without any concerns; they do note that for servicing the room that you are quarantined and would only deliver supplies to the door. The room service menu is OK but not all items were available (again covid). The front desk and bell staff were very accommodating in having my groceries and amazon package delivered to the door without complaint (i.e. the refrigerator was a great +). As multiple people would deliver items I didn't catch all the names but the entire staff did and excellent job. Note: you can walk to the hotel from the station with luggage about 20 mins; however, you can also take tram no. 26 off of platform A. You can get a single ride or a day pass thru the GVB app. First time at a Movenpick and we've added it to our list to try throughout Europe. read more

This was our first taste of Europe and set us up for the trip of a lifetime. It will help if you speak a little Dutch. It's also ok if you don't. The staff is welcoming and let us check in early. The on-site restaurants are great. The hotel is centrally located to wherever you want to be; red light district, tours, shopping, Heineken, museums, ice bar - whatever. They are super green and your room key actually powers your room. This was actually a thing all across Europe. Be aware that ice is an American pleasure, if you ask for ice in your drink usually, don't do it here. I knew this tip before we went and it was one more way to fit in. read more

I am horribly disappointed with this hotel. We paid a premium price for a very poor experience. The air conditioning in our room does not work. The hotel is booked to capacity and does not have the staff to support this many guests. The bar and restaurant are so overwhelmed that it is difficult to get food or drinks. Oh hello heated bathroom floors, it's nice to meet you, my name is Katie. :) This hotel was so nice, right on the water with a beautiful view - spectacular some might even say. We were on the fifth floor and much to our surprise (two girls sharing a room, both with large suitcases) we had MORE than enough room, and the space was not cramped whatsoever... in fact, the bathroom was ginormous and we also had a really great couch seat in front of the window. While the hotel is a bit farther than some of the others, it is a QUICK tram ride to the heart of the action, or an easy 10-15 minute walk, either option totally doable. The beds were comfortable and the towels fluffy. One morning I opted for the in hotel breakfast which was a great choice. They had everything I could want and then some, including an omelete chef, which you can NEVER go wrong with. It was a clean restaurant and quick service - if you are on your way to the airport, this is a good quick option with great food before you hit the road. read more

First impression of the hotel is really nice, even though I am not a big fan of such a big overnight places :) Good service, convenient location near the station at the canal (little loud though as the street and rails are close). Nicely arranged rooms with cosy bed and functional bathroom. The breakfast was in a form of buffet with good choice of fresh fruits and dairy products. When I looked little bit closer, there were few elements that lowered my initial review (spilled coffee on the carpet and black fungus spots all over bathroom). To my surprised after pointing it out in my review, all of the above have been remove during room cleaning! So I owe a star back for immediate reaction to the hotel management and staff ! This was my first time staying at this hotel, and, truth be told, my stay was being paid for by a client for work. But overall, I thought this was a great place to stay -- many pros and a few cons: PROs: Clean room Comfortable, firm bed Courteous, capable staff -- everyone greets you warmly, even in the hallway Wonderful for conferences -- great setups, reliable conference staff for technology and room set up needs Managed a large group of individuals well Restaurant/room service was very good (will review separately because it is its own restaurant!) CONs: Internet access -- VERY inconsistent. It's like the old Longfellow poem -- when it was good it was very very good, and when it was bad it was horrid. To be honest, as I travel more and more I need to wonder how much of that is Europe and how much is this hotel, but it's important to know. There's also a frustrating process of needing to constantly re-create and re-register a log-in for your internet access, even though the basic access is free. Not insurmountable, but just so you know. I heard a few people complain about the location -- it's not in the center of town, but is a quick walk there. I honestly liked being a bit off the beaten path, but if you're expecting to be right in the center (the title says "City Center") you're really not. Some complained about being able to hear the train and tram, which passed outside -- to be honest, as a native New Yorker, this didn't bother me. Yes, I can hear it -- especially with the window open -- and there's a party going on next door in the boat terminal which I can hear (again with the window open). If you're a light sleeper, request a room that's not looking over the water and I'm sure you'll be fine. And having the tram right in front made that short trip into the city center super easy. A little shady-ness re: the shuttle from the hotel to the airport: when I went to book it a man at the front desk said, "by the way, if they don't show up, your ticket is non-refundable." I said, "Why wouldn't they show up?" and he said "Well, sometimes they don't." So I didn't book the shuttle -- called later in the evening, spoke with someone else, who said they'd take care of my booking, no mention of this. We'll see -- if they don't show up/I don't make it to the airport, I'll update this review! Overall, however, if asked I would recommend this hotel. read more

This review is ONLY for the ice-cream bar located at the entry-level to the hotel, and not the hotel itself!! We wandered past the ice-cream bar and it was advertised as the most marvelous Swiss ice-cream in the world, and being connoisseurs (or at least, so we like to think, don't let me know to the contrary), we felt obliged to test out the claim. And OMG, the chocolate ice-cream is the bomb!! It has flakes of awesome chocolaty goodness and tastes incredibly awesome! But at €5 euros for two scoops, it's also super expensive! But the chocolate flavor tastes so good, _its_ almost worth it. Also tried the vanilla (decent) and the walnut (also decent) but neither of those flavours could beat the chocolate! So if you are okay to spend some €€€, go check out the chocolate flavor - the spoon used to eat the ice -cream with is pretty flash too -maybe some of the €€€ is for its design?? read more

I'm quite happy with the hotel. It's not the Waldorf- but you're not paying Waldorf prices, either. The rooms are nicely laid out- a little sparse, and the linens are on the low end, but they've done a lot with the space in the cheaper rooms. You won't feel opulently indulged, but you won't feel cheated. And I thought our room was pretty clean. We didn't have any issues with the bathrooms at all. There were some old (small) spots on the sheets, but who cares about that? They were clean. People with mobility issues will have a problem with the tub/showers. The walls of the tubs are high, and the tub is slippery! I don't know if they've got handicapped showers- but if you are at all unstable on your feet, you might want to check to see if they have handicapped bathrooms. There's an in room fridge and safe- and some very small closets. No drawers in our room. So closet space is a bit of an issue. The free wifi is quite acceptable (but low bandwidth- you probably can't watch movies) and much appreciated. Our room- 18th floor- was quiet and the view was outstanding. It was a nice room to celebrate our anniversary in! The view made it very special. or I should say- the city noise is non-existant. About the 4th day we got neighbors who were bouncing a basketball, or possibly each other, against the walls- and they were doing this late at night. That wasn't too restful. Eventually the pounding ceased. One very annoying facet of our stay was that you CANNOT keep the maids out. We tried the Do Not Disturb sign. That did not work. She came in anyway- and left a note about how she could not clean our bed because our clothes were on it (duh- we were unpacking, that's why we had the DND sign on the door. So I called down to the desk. I explained that we do not like maids in our room, and we don't want our bed made every day, and we like to use our towels for more than one second. Absolutely- she understood. Next day we get another note- taped to our door. They couldn't clean our room because the DND sign was on the door. Did i not just take that up with the desk? Yes I did. But it made no difference. The next day they went back to ignoring the DND sign and came in the room. If you like your privacy- this is obviously not a great place to be. I won't go back. Some people comment on the distance from the city. That's good and bad. It's very quiet (at least here on the 18th floor) and the city isn't always restful. It's easy to get in (26 tram to city center) - or it's a short walk. I wish they had an airport shuttle. I think that might be an amenity customers would really appreciate. Maybe it's not cost effective- but most hotels I've stayed with have some sort of airport shuttle. I wish this one did. Also, they wouldn't let us sit in the dining room for coffee and dessert. They said we could only be in the restaurant if we ordered dinner. I'm not sure I've ever been in a hotel anywhere in the world that would not let me in the restaurant. So that was very weird. Maybe it was just the girl who was on duty- but I can't say it makes you feel the place is friendly (at least not the restaurant). We were told to go to the bar- but we don't really like bars (though the guys who work in this one are very nice), so that wasn't exactly what we wanted to hear. Aside from the restaurant hostess everyone else was very nice, though- and the guys in the bar were especially helpful when we went to ask them a couple of questions we thought they could answer. They REALLY went out of their way for us- so kudos to the guys in the bar. read more

We lost tens of thousands of US dollars here this weekend as many of our customers were turned away by staff on Sunday after fixing the wrong company name AND meeting room center location, three times by four staff members. Ordered a breakfast box for 3am - sorry it wasn't ordered. No additional credit was offered. Even though breakfast is included at €25. This is not the place to host an event we spent top dollar and received bare minimum service even when we had to put our own people in the lobby to direct people to the bar rooms because they were being sent away. Unfriendly, unhelpful staff. Other than this the rest of the city was wonderful. Keep looking. read more

It was clean, the location is a bit far from central. About a 20 min slow walk and then some to really start wanting to explore the places you would want to go. It's a hotel for cruise ship passengers. There is nothing else around it and it doesn't offer brunch ect in the price we had which I thought was already a bit pricey compared to the other hotels I had booked on my trip. If you plan on spending time in the hotel then I would maybe look else where but if you are like us and are out from morning until late night then this is a great option and just want you need. Stayed there for two nights due to group booking at end of cruise. Hotel put two single ladies in room with only a king bed. Room looked very nice. Asked for room with two beds, to which they moved us. Room was clean, but carpeting was heavily stained. Both mornings the requested wake up calls did not occur. Room was never cleaned while we were there: we had to get fresh towels off cleaning cart in hallway. Hotel dining room menu erroneously did not show dish with semolina as containing gluten. Another evening ordered fish dish listed as gluten-free which turned out to have wheat pasta in it. Pasta wasn't identified until waiter asked chef what it was. Nice staff, who were very apologetic when problems were brought to their attention. Good location. read more

Flew across the Atlantic. Had a severe migraine that escalated after a few hours at the hotel. The hotel check in staff failed to inform me that the room assigned to me was directly below one that was being remodeled. The day was filled with banging and drilling noise. There's no point publicizing beds with personalized adjustments for sleep comfort and providing sleep aids in the room when you cannot provide an ambient environment! read more

Nice hotel. I ordered a king bed but the bed is actually 2 singles, made up separately, and pushed together. Maybe it's a cultural thing. I've never been to Amsterdam before, but i keep feeling line I'm falling off the bed. The view is beautiful and location is great! The people are helpful. The restaurant is fantastic and amenities are very nice. I wish Europeans smiled more, but they are nice and helpful. read more
