Lovely hotel in Amsterdam! The Kimpton is centrally located near the train, teams, and walking distance to sights and restaurants. The hotel is not on a canal, but the rooms are a nice size, chic, functional, and comfortable. Bedding was comfy and shower was good. Breakfast daily was wonderful. There was a buffet, but you could also get omelets/eggs made to order. Staff was very helpful. We really enjoyed the location and vibe of this hotel. Highly recommend.

Let's start with location, which can be a plus or a minus depending on your style. The hotel is a couple of blocks from Amsterdam Centraal, which is incredibly convenient. You are also right in the middle of the most touristy part of the city. Think Times Square energy. For some that's perfect, for others it's a deal breaker. From the outside the building is pretty nondescript, almost dorm-like. Inside it wakes up with the modern, eclectic Kimpton vibe and a few local touches that give it an Amsterdam spin. The rooms are on the small side, which is normal for Europe, but they're well-appointed. You get a Nespresso machine, complimentary water, and a very comfortable bed and duvet. That said, there's one major drawback: the air conditioning. It didn't cool my room properly. After a maintenance visit and a system reset I was moved to a new room, and the problem persisted. A few coworkers had the same issue, so it wasn't just bad luck. The staff were consistently pleasant and eager to help. I dealt with several team members while trying to fix the AC, and every interaction was professional and friendly. The unfortunate truth is they couldn't fix the cooling problem. If you want to be in the heart of the action and can live with a warm room, Kimpton De Witt is a solid pick. If reliable AC matters to you, this one might not make the cut.

My stay was nothing short of amazing. I arrived at my hotel early and was able to receive early check in. As an avid traveler, early check in is so good because u can get to start your vacation even earlier. The room was nice and comfortable and I had a small street view and could hear everyone the trams passed, which I enjoyed. The hotel had so much amenities I didn't even get to indulge in it all. But there is a cafe bar and restaurant so there's plenty to enjoy. They have umbrellas and bicycles if you want to indulge and provided hot chocolate and water in the lobby everyday which was vital during the cold days outside. Whenever I come back to Amsterdam I will definitely stay there. It's super close to all the shopping restaurants and tourist attractions and also a 4 min walk to Amsterdam central station.

I don't have enough good things to say about this hotel. We stayed here for two nights, and it was lovely! All the staff members we talked with were friendly and helpful; the room was spacious and clean. We also appreciated their amenities, such as free bicycles to rent and umbrellas for the weather. They also had free hot chocolate in the lobby one day, which was delicious! We also enjoyed their happy hour. It's also very centrally located, so it's a short walk to most of the major sights in Amsterdam. If I find myself in Amsterdam again, I would definitely stay here.

The food was good. We had salad and calamari with beer and wine. The decor was clean, crisp and yellow. When we went to pay the check we asked to put it on the hotel and the waitstaff, an Asian male, said we had to pay by card so we did. Our card was compromised from that point on. Sad

Such a sweet welcome. We love you already Kimpton!

It should be noted that this was a first visit to both Amsterdam, and the Kimpton De Witt in downtown city center November, 2023. That being said, throughout our entire four night stay, we were met with superior hospitality and service at every aspect of the hotel we explored. The hotel itself is modern, hip, with a very inviting lobby lounge. Given the location and hotel amenities, I would absolutely return to the Kimpton De Witt Amsterdam. Welcome: Upon our evening arrival and check-in we were warmly welcomed by the all smiles front desk staff. Given the celebratory purpose of our visit (honeymoon & bday) we were gifted vouchers for 15% off, and two complementary drinks at the Kimpton De Witt California inspired restaurant, Celia. Staff made friendly small talk, expounding on the city's recommended sites, and throughly explained the various hotel amenities offered, including the daily breakfast at Celia's we opted for, daily "social hour" which includes complimentary wine/beer (4-5pm), bicycles for rent, and the Super Lyan bar. Room: Given the nature of our stay we booked a Junior suite. No regrets there! Our 5th floor Jr. suite included a few steps down to access the room off the main hallway. As an American I find anywhere outside the U.S. (excluding NYC) the rooms are quaint and small, but the Kimpton De Witt is packed with charm and style. Upon entry we were greeted by a chilled bottle of champagne, a box of chocolates, and a handwritten welcome note (pictured). The room included complimentary Nespresso machine, tea, (2) bottles of water by Marie-Stella-Maris, an open fridge for future leftovers and beverages of your choice, a sleek Tube Audio Bluetooth speaker, TV, the softest robes by Frette, a yoga mat, in-shower body/skin care by ga mats, Marie-Stella-Maris, and a very cozy bed. The junior suite offers ample space for two plus a sofa bed. Aside from the current worldwide trendy bathroom design which includes a missing shower door/curtain, and the arms length distance between the toilet and the toilet paper- there's no room for complaints. The morning views from our room of the tops of buildings, pipping chimneys, and the hotel below was a constant reminder that we were home in Amsterdam. Amenities: While there is no free continental breakfast, we found the addition of breakfast at the hotel restaurant, Celia a convenient way to start the day; even if by day four the options appeared all too familiar. Each cup of coffee comes hot and fresh, and aside from the buffet eggs the chef is on hand for special requests like omelets or poached eggs. Before dining at Celia we enjoyed our first beer in Amsterdam at the bar where we picked the brains of the bartenders who were willing to give their recommendations on Amsterdam's nightlife. Even with a California inspired menu which meant a "home cooked meal" to us, we found the dinner menu and its courses to be delicious and different - in a good way! (Good luck trying to find a baked potato or white rice in Amsterdam, Americans.) Unless you're visiting in the summer, you will most likely want to take advantage of the complimentary umbrellas to borrow, conveniently located by the front entrance. As a city heavily populated with cyclists you would be remised if you didn't take advantage of their complimentary bicycle rental. Come evening time, imbibe at the cafe turned complimentary bar in the lounge area between Super Lyan and Celia for "social hour" btw. 4-5pm. Enjoy your choice of European wines (red/white) or Heineken along with small bites, while supplies last! Before calling it a night, or if you're just getting the night started consider the hotel bar, Super Lyan. The sleek modern style extends into one of Amsterdam's well-known watering holes with a unique menu of fine crafted cocktails. Overall, I have found no reason to complain about the staff or the suite at Kimpton De Witt Amsterdam. Given the location alone is a minute's walking distance to restaurants, shopping, and nightlife I would highly recommend visiting. To the entire staff of the Kimpton De Witt Amsterdam from the front desk, to housekeeping, I cannot thank you all enough for your outstanding hospitality. You each made our celebratory stay a pleasurable one, and a lasting memory we will cherish until next time. Thank you!

Second time we've stayed here and I've enjoyed it both times. A few additional notes: -The rooms are just as nice as I remember, and I love the little decorative touches just as much the second time. -The central location is one of the main draws for this hotel -The overnight parking (which is a steep 55 Euros per night) is behind the hotel, and you have to have someone from the hotel key card you into the garage each time you need to get your car. That said, people were readily available to help and we never felt like we were delayed because of this. -Staff remains friendly and helpful. I am sure we might explore other options in Amsterdam but we really do love this hotel.

As soon as my cab stopped in front, a man immediately came down the stairs to help me with my bag and escort me to the check in area. They asked if I wanted anything to drink and I said of course champagne! They gave me two! I checked in with Lisa who was amazing! She had me pick out a scent for my room. What? I didn't know that existed! Super fun! My room wasn't ready because I had booked late even though it was 3pm but I didn't mind waiting, especially when they gave me that 2nd glass of champagne. When I got my room, Lisa and Fae escorted me to the room to make sure I liked it and it was beautiful. I loved how the light came into the bathroom. On that note the bathtub was so nice I almost fell asleep in it! You receive welcome chocolates in the shape of Amsterdam shoes which were so cute and delicious! I ordered room service as the bar only served snacks and did not want to go to the restaurant by myself as it was really open. I got the Waldorf Astoria Burger which was amazing and so good! I'd go back to this hotel just for that burger itself. The next day I also had the breakfast and was able to get the whole tray of assortments and all the juices and coffee I wanted PLUS another dish! All complimentary with my Hilton Diamond status. I ordered the French toast and everything was delicious! Obviously I couldn't eat it all but was able to take some left to the room for later. I also had a spa appointment while here. Massage was great and the masseuse mentioned to see a physical therapist to help my lower back pain that I was complaining about as she said it was coming from my glutes, legs, knees. I've seen a couple of masseuses in the last two years in the states and one in Canada and NONE had ever even mentioned that that could help. I love this! Very professional staff. The spa also very serene with sauna, jacuzzi, and pool. They have a door to the garden which I'm assuming is beautiful in summer but I was here in February so it was freezing! When I checked out it was with Lisa again and she was great as usual and the guys helped me with my bags again when my uber came. They let me sit in the other room and said they'd let me know when it was here. Very nice. I did not want to leave. Haha!

You Get What You Pay For…read more I bartended for Hard Rock Cafe for 12 years. I love rock and roll, so when I saw this hotel it definitely jumped out at me. I will list the positives first since there are not that many: 1. The dayshift employee (cannot remember his name) was a very nice man. He recommended great vegan restaurants and was super cool. We actually ate at his recommendations for the remainder of our stay. He booked our taxi for us the night before our departure and was very hospitable. 2. The hotel lobby is set up like a bar/lounge with a pool table and it's cozy. 3. I liked the use of musical instruments such as a drum stool for a chair in the room and the drum light fixtures in the room. It adds to the theme of the hotel. 4. It was walking distance to a lot of cool places. Negatives: 1. Amsterdam is an old city with cute old buildings. I get it. We stayed at another hotel which was also an old building (and had a very slow elevator; but still had an elevator). This hotel had nearly 90-degree stairs to carry 50 lb. luggage up four flights of stairs (we called them ladders). I could not imagine anyone with a disability or elderly ever staying there for their safety. Literally, the stairs were about 4 inches wide. I slipped on them. sober. 2. The clients mostly consisted of younger hipsters that we could hear stumbling in at night after drinks and the walls are paper thin. We even heard someone fart in the next room. 3. To drown out the noise of the other clients, my partner and I used a rain app on our smartphone so that we could get some sleep (let me add that it was currently pouring outside). We get a loud knock on our door, waking us at two o'clock in the morning by the nightshift employee, telling us to turn the rain sound down. This woke us up and we were literally trying to book a room at two o'clock in the morning at a different hotel due to his unprofessionalism. It's like, how about telling the clients that are actually making the noise to be more quiet? If you are a young and do not mind the paper-thin walls and the ladder stairs, the disgruntled night shift employee that patrols the halls for noise, and have minimal luggage, then I would recommend this place for the location. Otherwise, stay somewhere else.
