It would have been five stars but it is so far from everything. We decided to try a hotel on the other side of Amsterdam on this trip. It looked like it was equidistant from the places we wanted to visit as our last hotel in DePijp. Unfortunately, despite the hotel being very nice and comfortable it was out of the way and we wound up doing a lot more walking than anticipated. It was very close to the creepy Waterlooplein flea market with clothing strewn about the ground. It was fairly close to Rembrandtsplein with its many restaurants. The hotel itself was comfortable and the room was a decent size. We overlooked the courtyard. The bathroom was modern but I do not care for the trending flat floored showers. Upon entry registration, you are offered a glass of Prosecco which my wife and I enjoyed after a long travel day. We sat at a comfy desk as did the clerk which made an impression on us as to a welcoming warm environment. The staff was very helpful with all our questions throughout the stay. Interestingly, you needed your key to get in and out of the hotel at all times. We had called for a taxi on two different days and we were told to wait inside or in our room as the taxi driver would come in and announce himself to the staff, then we would be advised of his arrival. A nice touch all hotels should adopt. The breakfast was available from 7 AM and we had added it as part of our reservation. The breakfast was not inexpensive but well worth it;warm and cold, meats, cheeses, eggs, sausage, cereals, breads, fruit, and so on. Very Nice with a neat coffee machine that most hotels appear to be adopting. Please not there is a bit of a confusing coffee/hot water maker in the closet of the room. The room itself was spotless and cleaned every day. There was a door hanger if you wanted to skip a cleaning day. The towels were fluffy and large. There was a rain shower as well as a handheld. Be careful with the handheld as it tended to spray all over and get the outside floor wet. The room was well appointed but not as much as I would have expected for the price (Amsterdam hotels are very expensive and we got a decent price from Expedia). There was a desk chair and a comfy chair though I am unsure the purpose of the two throw pillows on the bed which we found to be annoying as they just took up space. I guess it was for decor. The breakfast staff was helpful and if you wanted pancakes or waffles, they would actually assist you in making them or do them in the kitchen. It was odd to see the breakfast manager (they probably rotate this job among the clerks and managers) making waffles in the breakfast room. The breakfast room was left open at night so you could grab a tea or in my case, a decaf packet. This hotel was fairly close to MUSE, the Maritime museum. There is a lot of construction in this area. The streets of Amsterdam, no matter where you go are filthy even though we saw street sweepers every day. Overall a nice stay at a comfy, warm hotel. If you don't mind walking it is reasonably priced (for Amsterdam), I just wish it was closer to the center of town. read more
