Jason is a likable guy. And I'm sure his heart's in the right place, but...
We were wanting to add a guest suite (bedroom, full bath and walk in closet) to our existing home for our 90 year old in-laws, and hired MYWH Construction to do the job. The bid was about $225 a square foot.
Jason sold us on the fact that he didn't use sub-contractors and everyone that worked on the project were "his guys" and that he would be consistently checking the progress and quality of the work. (Having spent years in the building trades and running a high end home painting business, I knew that sub-contractors can be the devil in the details.) But...
So, rather than go into a long and fairly sad story, I just want to say that Jason is a likable guy and I'm sure his heart's in the right place, but if he says that his guy "Rolly" is doing the job, stop the job. Call Jason and keep those guys from doing any more work. "Rolly" is a sub-contractor who does work FOR Jason, he is NOT "Jason's own guys". How do I know? I asked Jason. He assured me that "rolly" was "his guys". And things went downhill from there.
Bottom line: Jason is not proud of this job and fessed up at the end of the project that he used a sub-contractor for the finish work (exterior brick, tile, painting and finish carpentry). Not that it changes the quality of the work... Or lack thereof.
He used a sub-contractor, and the only reason for this review is to make sure he doesn't subject clients to this experience again.
