I have recommended Marks Builders to many of my family and friends, and they've all had great things to say too.  Read on if you want the whole story! I had a leak in a wall between two bathrooms, above the kitchen.  Just to set the scene, my wife was pregnant and we had a baby due 3 weeks after the start of the construction.  My kitchen had a dropped ceiling and was original to the 1970s house.  Dustin worked with State Farm (my insurance carrier) to bring the adjuster's repair estimate up to a par. He and his team worked with us to order cabinets early (we were getting custom cabinets so they had a long lead time), then they gutted the kitchen and bathroom, raising the ceiling to 8' (reworking the HVAC, plumbing, and electrical lines in the process).  They pulled up all of the tile in the downstairs while we were out of the house (and in the hospital having the baby).  We asked for a few days at home without construction when we came home, to which they agreed. They worked hard to make sure that the house was ready for cabinets when they would be delivered. The cabinets were delivered without issue and installed the same week, with the trim taking longer than any other single step because they wanted it to look just right - and it paid off! The finishing touches make all the difference! The granite crew came in and did their thing. Like all of Dustin's sub-contractors, they were on time, professional, and courteous. They did their work well, quickly, and cleanly. We opted for granite counters and granite backsplashes, with different edge finishes in different places, corners, etc. to work around. They did it all well. Our kitchen looks fantastic, even a year and a half later. Through the whole 2-month process, Dustin's crew was on-site 4-6 days/week, except when we asked for the break. We made a lot of changes midway through, and Dustin didn't nickel and dime on the little things (moving an outlet, changing from a 2 gang to a 4 gang plug, etc). He was happy to work with my attention to detail (which can frustrate most people I know) and he did it with a smile - his attention to detail was similar. His crew was always fun to have around, and I never once worried about them being in the home, whether I was there or not. They worked hard to make sure we felt safe with them in the house at the start of Covid. All said, I strongly recommend Marks Builders. They're honest, smart, hard-working, and fun people who care about the work they produce and their customers' experience.

He discussed the scope of what I wanted, and we made an appointment (within a week!) to meet so he could look at it in person. Again, when he came out, I got a really solid sense that this man knew what he was doing. He didn't radiate charm or try to impress me, and that impressed me. I asked why I should have the old tile replaced, rather than sealing the cracks with, say, caulk, and he explained the downside to that (cheap) solution. He explained in detail the steps that his workers would take to remove the old tile and then install new waterproof barrier and the new tile. He gave me options--did I want a niche? What kind of grout did I want to use? Did I want to replace the shower? And he talked about price. Then he went back to his office and sent me a statement of work for approval. Then he sent me a quote, with a reminder of the unknowns involved that could change the costs. He scheduled the job about two weeks out, and recommended The Tile Shop for tile. They were very helpful (see my review of The Tile Shop). His workers were very professional, and they even taped plastic over the open walls when they finished removing the tile, so we could use the tub over the weekend. The installation went well, especially as we had to wait a day for the plumber to install the new shower. By the end of the next week it was complete and the grout was curing. I am so happy with Durrant Services, I am having them do other repairs on my roof and siding as well.

Don came over in the evening, explained his process, asked more questions than any other contractor, and got to us pretty fast. He provided us with a scope of work and then a bid once we had agreed in the work. He agreed to delay part of the project (building the roof) because we had some other cost come up. We are in the midst of a tenant turnover (not the best time as a landlord), and having the home sit idle for any amount of time seems like an eternity. But that's not how it is with John. Two days after the tenants moved out, John supported us by conducting a walkthrough of the place, highlighting areas that needed some attention, and got to work. He brought his mower and lawn edger to do some landscaping, flushed the water heater, fixed the front door lock (after troubleshooting it live with a support agent), tightened up some loose cabinetry in the kitchen and bedrooms, and even cleared out the garage of dust and loose debris. John is incredibly thoughtful and is a great communicator - thorough and complete. He actually takes care of the home like it is his own, and honestly, that level of detail and support helps me ensure that I can stand behind the value & security of home when it goes back on the market for the next tenants. What an aptly named company, because yes, I do in fact, love this handyman service…read more We had paid Home Depot to deliver and install our new dishwasher. When they showed up they said, "Nope there's a piece of wood trim in the way, and we can't," and they left. Literally that's all they said... and left. So I begin the process of calling around to plumbers and handy men. John is the only person that could squeeze our small project in, and when I say "squeeze" I mean it. He (like many others) was booked solid, BUT he went SO far out of his way to make it to our house. Even hanging around for a while in our part of town when I missed his call and it took me over an hour to get back to him. I couldn't believe it. He's clearly not short on business, so the fact that he was concerned enough about his costumer to just wait around and see if we would get back to him boggles my mind. He had SURGERY scheduled for the next day, and was so concerned that if he didn't get to our call that night he wouldn't be able to for some time. Again, he's not short on work, he just cared that it would be a nightmare for us to go that long w/o a dishwasher. Now you would think, busy as he is, with surgery the next day, and late in reply to him as we were, that he would rush the job. NOPE. He stayed here for hours making sure he did the job right, and he was a very pleasant "house guest" as well. Funny stories about his work. Tips about other "jobs" around our house that came up in conversation, and actually tips too, not just fishing for more work: "Oh yeah you could do that yourself, you just need XYZ and to watch out for these things." The dishwasher is installed, run beautifully, and the price was absolutely fair and appropriate. I probably would have paid more. Especially considering how long he was here, and that our instillation did have a few unexpected issues. Again you might worry with other companies, that all the polite conversation it racking up the price, but no way, not with John. Read the name of this business and believe it. You will love this handyman service.

This was by far the worst contractor experience I've had…read more I hired Rick to remodel our closet with bifold doors. During the initial consultation, he agreed the design was feasible and promised the project would be completed in 3-4 days. Five days into the project, he suddenly claimed the bifold doors were not possible and proposed changing the entire design to cabinet-style doors instead. This should have been identified before demolition began, not after work was already underway. From that point on, I was repeatedly told, "We'll finish tomorrow." That promise was made day after day for 19 days. Eventually, after nearly three weeks of delays and little meaningful progress, I asked them to stop work and remove their tools. I then had three independent contractors inspect the work. Two of them told me it was among the poorest closet workmanship they had seen. The issues included: * Panels cut to incorrect dimensions * Cabinet pieces shaped incorrectly * Poor fit and alignment * Work that would cost more to demolish and rebuild than to complete properly In the end, I paid for a project that accomplished virtually nothing except leaving me with demolition and additional repair costs. The worksite was also poorly managed. Although I was promised a clean work environment, they created excessive dust throughout the room and garage and rarely covered furniture or flooring unless I specifically asked. At the end of each day, I was often left cleaning after them myself. Safety was another serious concern. My toddler found a loose nail in the hallway during the project. Thankfully we noticed it before anything happened, but leaving sharp construction debris where young children are present is completely unacceptable. As the project progressed, work slowed dramatically. Some days they only worked a couple of hours, and there were 4-5 days where no one showed up at all without meaningful communication. To make matters worse, after all of the delays and poor workmanship, I was asked to purchase my own cabinet handles to save them roughly $30. The biggest disappointment wasn't just the quality of the work--it was the constant broken promises. If the project had been honestly scoped from the beginning, I could have chosen another contractor before losing nearly three weeks of time. I have extensive photos documenting the progress from day one through day nineteen and will be uploading them so others can judge the workmanship for themselves. I cannot recommend this company.

I recently moved from Los Angeles to Cedar Park, Tx and purchased a HAUSLANE UC-PS18 Under Cabinet…read morerange hood. My microwave oven range hood is not satisfactory and the smoke alarm goes off all the time because I cooked a lot and generated a lot of smoke. I found TX5J Handyman ("Daniel & Crew") on Yelp and contacted them. Danel came over, did a detailed FREE inspection and gave me a competitive quote in 24 hours. I then decided to hire them for the job. They came in at 7:30 A.M. in the morning to beat the summer heat. It requires piping and extension exhaust vent directly to outside top siding. It was not an easy job but they completed the job at 2:45 p.m. I am completely satisfied and happy with Daniel & His Crew. Photo is attached "Before and After". P.S.1 It's beautiful isn't it? Yes, they even did the "white box" enclosure (so you won't see the pipe) between the roof and the under cabinet that holds the HAUSLANE range hood to make it look first class+style. I got frustrated and started a project on Yelp, TX 5J handyman responded very fast to my inquiry and came on the same day to give me estimate. Then gave me a very honest diagnosis for a short term fix and long term fix. I went with the short term for now and they came back the second day to fix it now the drain doesn't leak anymore. Daniel is very fast response to my inquiry over the text; and they did a good job fixing it at a decent price. Highly recommend for others to use them.
