I have lived on 4 different continents and I have NEVER eaten such bad food .It's like the chef was fired and he didn't give a rat's a&$. The pineapple fried rice was basically curried rice and someone flung 2 pieces of tomatoes and some burnt cashew nuts on this hot mess . It was so horrible I took a spoonful and threw it out . The pan Thai had a vinegary taste and the ribs were undercooked . A complete waste of $35 . The guy at the counter looked and acted like he wished he was anywhere but there . I'd ask you to do better ( consider firing the chef if he wasn't already working on his last day as the food indicated)but this is more so others won't make the same mistake . read more

My Thai - Curried rice being peddled as pineapple fried rice - Thai Near Me - State College, Pennsylvania

We stumbled across My Thai this weekend while driving through the Goodwill plaza, and vowed to come back. Fast forward two days and here we are. Tiny flags decorated the entry and a large "GRAND OPENING" sign blazed the doorway. Admittedly, I have a serious Cosi Thai bias, so I went in prepared for just an "okay" dining experience. WRONG! My Thai totally exceeded my expectations. The decor is what I like to call trendy-chic: sleek dark tables, leather dining chairs, colorful pendant lamps, bright glass bowl sinks in the bathroom and hand-painted Thai wall murals. Plates and bowls looked very West Elm: squares and other "organic-modern" shapes. I'd guess the place could seat about 50 or so. The food was reasonably priced and really tasty. The menu isn't huge, but has a lot of apps, several noodle options (including soups) and a much broader selection of curries than you'll find anywhere else in town. In fact, I believe My Thai is the only place you can *get* Masaman curry here in State College (I know Vikki N will like that); the Chiang Mai style curry was spicy and delicious, and the red curry was rich and flavorful. Both of our meals had chicken (and tons of it, I might add), but the menu did have a variety of meats and vegetarian options as entrees. As far as apps go, the pork rolls were the teeniest spring rolls I've ever been served (we're talking mini-weenie size), and the chicken dumplings were served in open wontons, but still very tasty. There were several vegetarian appetizers as well, but we went the carnivorous route this go. Other things to know: it's not the downtown "scene" but there is plenty of parking in the plaza; also, so far, they do not serve any alcohol (BYO status is still TBD). The take-out menu was being written up while we were sitting there, and it sounded like the lunch specials were going to be pretty good. So since my temporary move back to State College, I find that My Thai has become my primary takeout destination. I felt like I needed to do an update because I've now tried more dishes than just the Chiang Mai Curry. The Chiang Mai Curry is still my go-to dish with its ample pieces of mango and pineapple, but all my other tried-and-true Thai favorites are consistently good here as well. So far I've had the Massaman Curry, Pad Thai, and Pad Ki Mao (drunken noodles) and they all passed the test. It's just hole-in-the-wall Thai food that's simple and fast with big portions. We needed a place like this in State College since Cozy Thai is way too popular to attempt takeout. And honestly, I like the food better than Cozy Thai, especially the curries. Not sure how Fuji & Jade and Okinawa can be so blah and yet My Thai (same ownership) can be so good! But I'm not complaining! read more

My Thai - Massaman Curry & Pad Thai takeout - Thai Near Me - State College, Pennsylvania

There is a seemingly endless parade of new restaurants in State College offering Thai food. (Sakura: sushi and Thai. What?) So far, Cozy Thai remains the only one that actually has Thai people making Thai dishes that taste like Thai food. So what of My Thai? They display all the trappings of an authentic Thai restaurant. Carved wooden welcome sign, pictures of the King, decorative chadaa... but it takes a little more to make a good Thai place than the right decor. My Thai is an extension of Fuji/Jade Garden. I'd expect this to be readily apparent to anyone familiar with that place, since our first reaction (to a fried fish dish) was... "Wow, this sauce tastes like something from Fuji/Jade Garden." We learned shortly thereafter that My Thai is, indeed, owned and operated by the very same. Judging by the food, it's the same kitchen staff too. I assume that if they only had space in the original place, they would have just made it "Fuji Jade Garden My Thai" and added another dozen pages to the menu. No one at My Thai is Thai. No one at My Thai can speak Thai. (Here's a fun trick: pronounce the Thai name of a dish correctly when ordering. The waitstaff won't know what you're saying.) No one at My Thai appears to know what Thai food tastes like. If we'd known this ahead of time, we maybe could have had a better meal. Don't expect to get good Thai food. Is it suitable for a State College palate? Evidently. Is it good "Asian food"? It's not bad, I guess. Oyster sauce and soy sauce... what's not to like? Review summary - as you can see by the rating - AWESOME! This review is based on two separate trips to the newest Thai place in town. The only options so far were Cozy Thai and Viet-Thai, both of which were competent. But My Thai so far is brilliant. Hope the quality does not dip. The first item we ordered was an appetizer called Thai roti. From the name, it seemed like an Indian-inspired Thai dish. And that's exactly what it was. Very yummy. Rich leavaned bread (what we'd call parathas in India), pan-toasted and served with a peanut-cumin-based dipping sauce with small chunks of beef. Wife and I liked it so much, that on our next trip, we ordered one for each of us. Another appetizer we tried was crispy tofu. Ladies and gentlemen, I haven't tasted fresher and tastier tofu in my life. Crisp on the outside, soft on the inside - something like good ole mozzarella sticks but way way better. Soups, we tried old favorites - tom kha and tom yam, and both were easily among the best we've had ever. For the entrees, we thought of sticking to the standard ones like penang curry or pad thai, but then decided to experiment. The waterfall beef was good. But a curry called....Chian Min I think (or something like that) was a total home run. A green curry with a coconut base, with perfectly cooked beef, and okra, bell pepper, pineapple and mango. Perfect combination of spicy curry with sweet stuff. Do try it. The beverage menu is good too, with lopang, pomegranate, honey-lime, among the options. All good. The service for the most part is quick and efficient. There is one waitress who seems extremely confused. The first time we went, she got us an entree (when we had ordered watermelon beef). We bit into what seemed like meat, but it turned out to be tofu. She had given us someone else's order! On our second visit, a couple of weeks later, the same waitress seemed equally confused. We were seated closest to the kitchen door (there were two other parties at the tables after us). And everything she got out, she asked us if we had ordered. When we'd say no, she'd move to the next table, and then to the next. This happened about 10 times. It was funny, but also kinda annoying. Either they don't have table numbers, or she has a bad memory. But the other waitress and the waiter are helpful, friendly, and efficient. And the food like I said, was awesome, miles ahead of the other Thai places in town, and in So despite the adventures of Dory from Finding Nemo, I give it 5 stars. Oh, one small thing that some other reviewers have also noticed. Their "spicy" dishes, marked by a red chili on the menu, are not spicy at all. My Thai - Thai Near Me - State College, Pennsylvania

One of my favorite restaurants. In the interest of full disclosure: I've never had "real" or certifiably "good" Thai food. Maybe this doesn't hold a candle to bonafide Thai. But it's food that I like and that counts for something. Smaller restaurant, clean and attractive decor. Menu items may be slightly on the spicier end of the American scale, but certainly nothing unbearable. Massaman curry and green curry have been my favorites. Portions are LARGE and prices reasonable. As others have alluded to, this is under the same management umbrella as several other Asian restaurants in State College. Somehow, though, My Thai is hitting the service mark the other places fail in so abysmally. Waitstaff is courteous and attentive, which is more than can be said for places like Fuji & Jade. read more

The Food: (below average) After this experience, I see no reason why someone would choose My Thai over Cozy Thai. Let me break down my order and explain my issues: Dumplings (appetizer): On the outside, these cute little dumplings looked appetizing with some good-looking texture. However, once I took my first taste of the dumpling, I realized that I had no idea what I was eating. The contents of the dumpling are unrecognizable meat, or so I can only assume and pray. The flavor of the dumpling was disappointing. If there were salt salt on the dumpling, the flavor may have been non-existent. Once the dumplings sat around and became luke-warm, they were even less appealing to the taste-buds. Tom Yum Ghoong Soup (comes with Lunch entree): Indeed, this was a spicy soup and it had my nose runny in no time. However, the appearance of the soup was off-putting: red oily spots separated from the remainder of the clear broth. There were only a few pieces of mushroomsand shrimp. The mushrooms were yummy and soft, but the shrimp tasted like it came out of a raman bag. Once the mushrooms and shrimp were gone, there was no good reason to finish the broth. Phad Si eui (aka Soy Sauce Fried Noodles) Main Entree: The main entree was actually delicious, if not average. The noodles were soft and flavorful, with the upbeat kick from the soy sauce. The vegetables had a good steamed texture, without being too soft. The beef was cooked until tender and mixed well with the entire dish. Overall, it made for a pleasing presentation and good meal, and was more than I could eat. Drink (Hot Tea): This was probably the best part of the meal. The hot tea came in its own personal tea kettle, along with a quaint little tea cup. Inside the kettle, the tea leaves were still soaked with hot water and gave a more authentic feel to the presentation. The Atmosphere: (average) Knowing the sparse and unappealing shopping center that My Thai is located in, I didn't expect much in terms of the dining environment. However, it was more comfortable and inviting than expected: nice wall paintings and spacious seating. As an extra benefit, the restaurant is kept cozy in spite of the harsh winter cold. The Price: (average) The prices were very appropriate for the food quality, services, and atmosphere. The entire kettle of tea was ~$2.50, the unpleasant dumplings were $4.95, and the main entree was $7.95. Although I do not know Cozy Thai prices off-hand, I imagine these are slightly less. The Service: (Above Average) In spite of those nasty dumplings, our waitress was very pleasant and attentive to our needs. I had their curry and pancake (tortilla) appetizer and was not too thrilled. A very greasy tortilla with little flavor and a sauce that was basically water and some curry flavor. If it had thicker consistency at all, it would have been great!! For me, their prices are rather high, so I just got two appetizers, to go. I've found a delicious friend in the cooler coconut curry, while the fiancee prefers the green pepper curry. I use to really enjoy this place, but the last 2 times have been bad. When the Pad Thai Is overwhelmed with fish sauce, there is a problem. Pad Thai should never be bad in a Thai restaurant! My first date with my boyfriend was last year around this time at Cozy Thai. Therefore, he and I have a special place for Cozy Thai and did not want to necessarily like any other Thai better. But, we honestly can't help it. I also tried not to like it because it looks way bigger than what you get at Cozy Thai. But sometimes, size does matter and bigger is really better. I guess it all depends on what you are in the mood for. We've had the crab rangoons and red curry twice this week-- and its only Tuesday and haven't eaten dinner yet tonight...We're those people that have something once and if we like it eat it all week and then make our own as well. We find ways to recreate it 16 different ways until we're sick of it and move on to something else luscious. But, I'm afraid My Thai comes the closest to having my curry. Its delicious-- and even better as leftovers. I usually order a side of vegetables to dump in my empty soupish broth called curry at Cozy Thai. This side of veggies usually consists of carrot circles and a piece of broccoli. The veggie curry at My Thai is like what you would make at home filled with big chunks of vegetables and lots of different colored peppers. They are good about adjusting the heat, as their regular is a bit spicy. Cozy Thai does have better Jasmine rice though. It has a coconut flavor to it and is a bit sticky. We got delivery from My Thai, several dishes, soups, and a salad, the Green Papaya Salad, my favorite Thai dish, and a pretty standard dish. I have had it thousands of times ... the salad was just and heavily tasting like garlic and salt, no hint of the other sweet and sour flavors you get in this dish. So I called the restaurant, mistakes happen, I wanted them to send me the right salad. The person I spoke to said it was probably made wrong, she didn't say they would bring another but she said when the manager comes, she will speak to her and they will refund this.. I wasn't happy I wasn't getting my Som Tam, but I was like oh well. An hour later I speak to a woman from the restaurant -- I explained again that this tastes nothing like papaya salad, please either send me the right one or refund as the person before said. The woman said "that's how we make it" while accepting that yes it should have some sweet and sour, and hearing me say this is just and very strong garlic taste only. She said they will not send a new one or do a refund, I could take it to the restaurant...I said I can't leave home today that's why I ordered delivery. She then spoke with a guy there who spoke perfect English, wouldn't come to the phone and I could hear them talking, she was saying there is nothing wrong with the salad it just tastes like garlic. Obviously she doesn't think that the taste is something entirely different for a classic dish an issue. The whole conversation was absurd, and messed up.They send something we didn't order or something that is very bad...This is an incredibly standard dish. And they won't do anything??? The salad was only 6.25, a fraction of our entire bill... I was unhappy not to have the salad, but this isn't even about money... the whole treatment was ridiculous. I asked to talk to the man the woman was talking to and she refused to let me talk to him, I said this is no way to do business and she said "I don't make that decision," well... obviously. The Bangkok noodles, the Massaman Curry, and the rice were very bland... but edible as we were hungry. However, what is Thai food without flavor? All the food here is good. I have a sneaking suspicion some Yelp users leave bad reviews so no one else but them will eat here. The drunken noodles, basil fried rice and red curry are my personal favorites. They also don't mess around when it comes to spice. They don't use an American spicy scale like the rest of State College - they use a Thai spicy scale. It's more like 3.5... or 3.3. I definitely wouldn't go as far as giving this restaurant 4 stars, because it still has a long way to go to that level. The portion is big, the food was pretty good, not wonderful, but pretty good. I do think that the flavoring is kinda bland and luke-warm, not bold and daring at all. The service is excellent though. One time the new staff accidentally dropped a thai ice tea on our table and some on my pants. The waitresses cleaned it right away and gave me a complimentary ice thai, which soothed my heart (no, seriously). It won't be the place that I would intentionally go to eat though. I believe this is the same owner as Fuji Jade (and I have MAJOR beef w/them because of their customer service)... so I have to say it's not my favorite place in SC. I placed an order earlier today and after about an hour was confused about why it hadn't arrived. I called the restaurant, and the guy who answered was unprofessional, and exceptionally rude. I asked him about my order and he said, "Well, I can't find it, so I don't know what you want me to do..." Obviously, I wanted him to fulfill my order, but he stated that without the order that I had been charged for, he wouldn't do such a thing. I asked if he could call order up to get my order information and to see that my order, was in fact, charged and placed. He said he would. Flash forward fifteen minutes, I call back for a status update as I was hungry and wanted to know about my order. He answered the phone unprofessionally once more, and then continued in his rude manner, to inform me that the call to order up went to voicemail, a fact I later found to be untrue, and that I'd have to call them myself. I asked to speak to a manager at that point, and he stated that a manager wasn't on duty. When asked when the manager would return, he told me, in a continually rude tone, that he wouldn't be in until tomorrow. Then, I asked to speak to whomever was in charge so that I could have my refund processed. He stated that no one was in charge and that instead of helping me, I'd have to call Order up myself. I contacted Order Up, which did not go to voicemail, and informed them of the situation. The kind clerk helped me through this situation, but I want everyone to know that this is not a restaurant that I would EVER recommend again in terms of their customer service. If you are looking for a great restaurant in State College, I would suggest Penang or somewhere else. Otherwise, you may have to deal with the same situation that I had to today. read more

Takeout Tip: Make sure that what's in your takeout container is actually what you ordered... I've only had two takeout errors in my 7 years in State College and they're both from this place. It's inconvenient, and the opportunity cost of getting a refund on the difference is too high (ain't nobody got time for that!). I was surprised by My Thai. We usually order it delivery, and the portion sizes are very large. Sometimes the food can be a little bland, but the food is still good. I'd give the food three stars really, and I tack on another star because they are always friendly, and they deliver pretty quickly to us, even if it means the owner has to get in the car and drive over. We used to go downtown to Cozy Thai to eat, but My Thai has replaced that as our go to Thai place. Caveat: We have not dined at the restaurant, just ordered delivery. read more

I was a huge fan of Viet Thai before it closed, but My Thai is now my favorite Thai place in town. The only reason it doesn't have 5 stars is the lack of Pho and while the fresh spring rolls are acceptable, they are not nearly as good as what Viet Thai made (same with the sauce). But overall, I'm very happy with them, whether eating in, getting take out or delivery. My fave dish is #22, the Phad MM with beef (although I ditch the mushrooms since I'm allergic). It says hot & spicy, but it's not really hot. It is extremely flavorful, though, and has taken the #1 spot for me from the shrimp with green curry sauce (which really is hot and very delish). My Thai's crab rangoon is the best I've ever had (and I've traveled all over the US). Other excellent appetizers are the Calamari, dumplings and Chicken Satay (love their vinegrette dipping sauce as much as I loved Viet Thai's peanut sauce). My friends raved about (and repeatedly order) the Drunken Noodles (very hot - you have been warned), as well as the Pineapple Fried Rice. They also love the Pad Thai, but I only found it okay. Not enough vegetables, but that could be a personal thing. They have good vegetarian/vegan options, as well. As far as service - I've never had a problem. The decor is fine with me. Lots of parking. Came in and ordered chicken pad thai and crab Rangoon. We waited about 20 minutes before any food came out. Then, the crab Rangoon came out cold, almost like it was frozen and they just didn't take the time to cook it long enough. Then when our pad thai came out, it was overloaded with sauce and was not good at all. We ordered chicken pad Thai but ours also had tofu in it which was just weird. Overall, the worst of Thai I've ever had. The more bites of pad Thai that i had, the more sick I felt. To my disgust, at one point our waiter took of his shoes, fiddled with his dirty sock, and went back to serving food. Finally, we asked for our bill and put the credit card in to pay... but the waiter never came back to get it. About 10 minutes later he came back and said, "can you guys please leave so I can use this table." I will not be returning. read more

Large Portions, Good Food, and Pleasant Staff. I always get the green curry even though I don't do too well with spicy food. Compared to Cozy Thai's green curry there is less variety in vegetables, but the flavor is just as good if not better and the quality of the meat is very good. My husband always gets the Pad Thai and was more impressed with My Thai because of the bigger portion-size and flavor. Spring rolls are great. We had the wrapped shrimp appetizer, only complaint is that one of the shrimps wasn't fully deveined, easy mistake. Take out gives you even bigger portion of curry, yay for that! In town from DC to visit the college and wanted delivery food at the hotel. We were shocked at the incredible flavors of the foods. Delivery was 30 minutes or so - appropriate for non- premade food. Nice little Thai place with large portions. Bring your hunger. I've been passing through State College and visiting a friend. First time we went to the Pan-Asian place on the corner of the strip mall. We decide we're working our way around - next time we'll go to the HotPot place. After that is apparently a RiteAid, for which we're pondering the logistics. I'm thinking potato chips and Ding Dongs, but, hey. We'll figure that out in the months ahead. We started by splitting the calamari. It was tasty and well spiced, but not spicy at all which was a little of disappointing. My friend ordered a green curry, which she devoured, and I had a pad thai. It was tasty and tangy and not greasy. I also had a Thai iced tea, which did not impress me. It was rather tasteless. The place was quite clean, including the bathrooms. The bathroom I used was cute - I loved the sink! My daughter and I love to meet on Thursdays in this place. We usually order chicken satay and crab rangu for appetizer. The Entrée varies between pad sieu, duck, pad thai, laarb, tom yom, and kom kho kai. I apologyse for the spelling. Everything is delicious. The waitress is very smily. I do not recommend the fried rice, it is very spicy but has no taste. I like the decoration, not bad. I never hear music in this place. The bathrooms are very dark. Enjoy. I hope you like it. Oh! I'll preface this by saying that Thai is not a cuisine with which I'm familiar, so my opinion here is uninformed. That being said, I didn't care for my meal. I got pad se yew, which I've had in the past and enjoyed. It was very bland here, however. The noodles were dry and seasoning seemed minimal. The vegetables, though fresh and crisp, were entirely unseasoned, and since the veggies were at least half the volume of the dish, the noodles had very little flavor to begin with, and there was absolutely no sauce present, the whole thing ended up being quite dry and bland. Again, maybe this is how it's supposed to be prepared- I could just have expectations that were out of keeping with the correct preparation. On the other hand, my fiancé's meal (d-21), was excellent. He ended up spooning half of his meal onto my dish out of pity. So, mixed results. I'd definitely come again and try a different meal. I ordered the chicken Pad Thai and while the presentation was gorgeous, it left me feeling like there was a taste that was missing from the dish. I don't go out of my way for Thai food so I'm not sure if this is how it was supposed to be. I came here as part of a group but the service was decent and they constantly refilled our waters. I also ordered an appetizer: crab Rangoon. There came 6 of the TINIEST crab Rangoons I have EVER seen!! They were delicious and the dipping sauce they came with was amazing but their size left much to be desired. Normally, at other places for the price of six tiny ones you can get four large ones. Was in State College a few weeks ago with the bf and was really craving something Asian. Instead of going to the usual places on College Ave decided to try a new place. Found My Thai on yelp and sounded good. I got pad thai and the bf got green curry and summer rolls for appetizers to share. The food was decent. Wouldn't mind coming back again when in State College. I'm not usually one to factor authenticity into my reviews. If food is good then I like it, regardless of who says it is or isn't authentic. But My Thai is making me break my pattern, because I ordered the Thai Basil Chicken expecting it to actually be like the Thai dish I've had several times before, and it was nothing like it. Thai Basil Chicken is usually made with smaller bits of chicken and lots of basil, and the whole sauce is infused with basil flavor. At My Thai, the chicken was in large slices, there were a few basil leaves scattered throughout the dish, and the sauce tasted like their standard brown sauce. It was a decent dish on its own, but when they call it 'Thai basil chicken' I have a certain expectation, and I was disappointed. I *at least* expect it to taste of basil, and it really didn't. Service needs improvement. Granted, I went with a large party, but they didn't handle it well. They couldn't remember who ordered what, and everyone's dishes came at different times. Other people had been eating for 10 minutes or so before I got my entree. I will say, though, that I liked their side salad. It's iceburg and shredded carrots with a peanut dressing that, though pretty sweet, is good in small amounts (the salad is fairly tiny). read more

I always have a good experience when I eat here! Wonderful food...love the Pad Thai, Pad Kee Mao, Pad See Ew. Great Thai iced tea and coffee too. The wait staff is always attentive and friendly...and the bathrooms (well, at least the ladies room) is clean and pretty. read more

It doesn't look like much from outside, don't let that stop you from going in. The food is ssssoooo good. We got the spicy basil and the twister shrimp both Thai spicy level 5. The ingredients were so fresh and it was made exactly how we like it.. super tasty and spicy! The only negative is the Thai tea was not really great that day, it tasted a bit to strong and bitter, like it brewed to long. Everything else was good! read more
