Myself and a few mates wandered in here a week after it opened, despite not being open long the place looked great. The service was excellent, the staff were really helpful and were knowledgeable about the menu. So we all got the mixed meat board which had chicken, beef and pork. I would have liked more of the pork (tasted amazing), however the beef serving was enormous (you get about 80% beef). You get to pick the two sides you would like, I got chips and corn. The sides were just ok to be honest. Presentation is excellent and I love the decor, it has been well thought out. I will definitely be back here for another big meat serving. read more

This place is great!! Amazing BBQ, great service, what more can you ask for. It is super close to the Jameson experience. I got the pulled pork sandwich with fires. It rivals some of the best BBQ places I've been to in the southern US. This place is definitely worth a visit and I'll be back next time I'm in Dublin. read more

This is probably my favourite spot in Dublin. I'll get the downsides out of the way first. The main one is that it's a bit out of the way, Smithfield is probably a 10 minute walk or so from the main part of the city centre. The other downside is that the brisket was a little dry...once... Other than that everything is incredible. The food is of incredible quality for the amount you pay. Everything on the easy to read (it's mostly family-friendly pictures of the animal you're about to eat!) menu is delicious. The food comes quickly as most of the meat is left to marinate for hours before you arrive. The desserts are a hidden gem, relatively expensive but so so so gooooood. On top of that the staff are always extremely helpful and friendly, but be sure to ask how the menu works if it's your first time. My staple is the cow in a box with sausage and mash as the sides, a salt lick lemonade, then the sundae for dessert. It's more than worth your while to go here, if not for the food then for the plentiful innuendos due to the name: "We can go to My Meat Wagon... Then grab some food afterwards..." This has yet to work on the opposite sex but it's worth a shot! read more

This place came with a lot of hype, but I was underwhelmed. The food was just ok. I've honestly tasted much better in other places that don't necessarily specialize in grilling meat. I ordered the chicken box, with a side portion of sausage and fries. The chicken was rather dry and the ratio of bone to flesh was far too much in favour of bone (there was no breast served, just the wings, leg and thigh). I felt quite short-changed by this. The sausage -which was marinated in a thick, sticky sauce- tasted hard, chewy and overly salted to me. The condiments weren't that imaginative either, just plain BBQ and ketchup. I would've expected a place that serves lemonade in jam jars and chips inside a tiny shopping trolley to offer a bit more variety here. When I saw the beef board go past me I was a little pissed I hadn't ordered that instead, because it looked considerably more satisfying. I may chance a second visit; perhaps the beef board could change my mind and push my review up 1 star, but the chicken wasn't good enough. I think I prefer Crackbird, or Bison Bar for this kind of greasy grub. read more

Used to go to the restaurant and was well served, but unfortunately today I had a really bad experience, I called earlier to ask if a reservation was required and they said no, they have a walk in service, so me, my husband and some friends went to the place and was a bit busy so they asked us to wait 15/20 min for a free table, but some people were coming and they were getting some tables ready for them and they literally had the same amount of people as us, so after a while we asked if we could seat on a table outside the restaurant I think was just decoration, until we waited for one to be available, so then after a few minutes some people left the table and the girl said she was going to get that ready for us, and literally 5 min after the manager said that table was reserved. But as I mentioned they don't reserve tables. So I expected a better communication and we just felt like we were being a problem for them!!!! Hopefully they get the chance to work better on busy days, cause there was no organization whatsoever! read more

Great venue, I love the decor. Staff were very nice and friendly too. Menu was basic, as in basic with no description on what the cuts of meat were used, which means if you're a new customer the staff have to explain it to you what beef or pork you would get.. um, ok. I'm pretty sure this is what a menu is for. I went for the ribs after reading how good they were here. Even at a price of 19.95 EUR, I made the plunge. They were OK, but not 19.95 EUR OK. Oddly one end was nicer than the other. The meat was cooked more and came off the bone a lot easier. For sides I went for mash and corn. The mash was excellent, but the corn very bland. My hubbys brisket was quite tasty and a chip I stole from his box very nice too. For the price and what you got, MMW didn't really do it for me. Considering we got a rib meal the weekend before for 15 EUR in another Dublin BBQ place, of which the ribs were far superior, I can't see why I would go back here. read more

Very disappointing. For a place that calls themselves a meat wagon it was pretty bad. I had the ribs and they did not even remove the film on the back which I would say is kind of essential. The meat was so so and it was expensive for what you got. Beans were good. I wish I could say this was a once off but I have been here a few times and it just isn't great. read more

Funky vibes, hipster decor, lots and lots of meat!!! Also cool versions of soft drink (I had ginger and tarragon lemonade) that come in jars. Really chilled out and fun, probably not a first date kind of place (unless you are definitely sure nobody is vegetarian..and everyone is happy with 'meat in a box' and kitchen roll on the table) The food was really super and the service was fabby. A definite hit! read more

I got the mixed platter which included chicken, pulled pork and beef. I also ordered chips and it came with some salad. Food was made very quickly and I felt like I got a lot of it for my money. The pulled pork was delicious and i even reheated some of it the next day. It was sublime. The chips were also great and there were lots of them. The beef was also pretty good but i Have to say the chicken was quite dry and I couldn't finish it. Bit of a mix but on balance most of the food was pretty good and I will be going here again read more

Now, if you starve yourself for a couple of days in preparation, and you order the €50 plate to share... you may have "a chance" to finish it. Place is simple, funky and functional. Go there to eat meat, or buzz off ! I'll recommend it to real hungry warriors. Top class read more

I live near this place but hadn't gotten around to visiting. When we finally had an opportunity to visit, we hadn't made a reservation. However, the hostess made a real effort to get us seated, so we didn't have to wait too long. This place is very popular, so I would definitely recommend pre-booking. The food was amazing, the pulled pork, chips, baked beans and corn couldn't have been better. The slaw needs some work though. Service was fast and the place had a nice intimate vibe to it. I will definitely be back to try the mixed meat board. So glad I live near this place! read more

The portions were big, but the only issue was that my meat was very fatty. I worked in the restaurant business for years, so I know my stuff; therefore I don't like B.S. being put to me. (I know the trade in and out) My meat had loads of fat on it, in a sandwich. The waitor said that this was simply the sign of good meat.... Otherwise it was good! read more

I really want to LOVE this place, because as someone who doesn't eat pork, I don't have a whole load of BBQ options. But as of right now, here are my major complaints: 1) I wanted delivery. I had to really search to finally find a good menu on Deliveroo. Why? Why isn't there an easily accessible menu, guys? 2) Unless you are within easy walking distance, you might get frustrated. My conversation last night went as follows: "Hi, I would like a double order of beef ribs without the brisket for delivery." "We don't deliver. You need to use Deliveroo." "Oh, ok. But how do I tailor my order for you guys using Deliveroo?" "...I don't think you can..." "So..... how do I get what I want..?" "...?" 3) Honestly, just make it right with your customers. I WANT to love this place SO MUCH, but when I called to let them know about the issues I was having, the guy on the phone didn't seem inclined to help make any of this right. To be fair, he was absolutely polite and apologized that I had been advised to get the wrong order and that it couldn't be tailored, but that was it. I'm not greedy, but it would have gone a long way with me if he had said something like, "I'm really sorry to hear about this! If you give me your name, we can put you on our mailing list and I can make sure you get a free order of beans or corn next time," or something. A small gesture like that would have deffo bumped up my stars rating. Anyway, I'll try again with these guys because the meat is good. But if it's going to be a headache every time, I'll just wait until I happen to be in the area before I indulge again. read more

This was delicious! I ordered the beef board and couldn't have been happier with it. The brisket was really good, and the ribs were amazing. So tender, and they have a nice salty twist. The mashed potato was okay, it needed something extra to make it less dry, but it did the job. I also ordered corn with my food and that was amazing too. The sauces they provide are great, bbq and garlic mayo. The only thing I didn't like was the menu. It was a bit too hard to figure out, and I kept having to ask what was what. I wish they'd write a little bit more on it because I like to consider a few options in mind before I order rather than only remember one. read more

This place does what it does well so maybe I should give it a fourth point but it's more of a 3.5 for me than a 4 so going to stick on the low side. If you like BBQ, pulled everything and lots of food then this is the place for you. It's especially convenient for a pre cinema meal if you're heading to the lighthouse. It's seems like decent enough value with a big feed for about 14 quid. The staff is lovely. My friend loved the BBQ sauce and asked if she could have some to take away and they gave her a whole bottle of it on the house. read more

Amazing place. It's one of my boyfriend's favorite place. The food is amazing and service is good and very personal. Even that I'm not a meat lover, I like this place. Usually we have the combo for 18eur and it has enough food for two. Which is a really good price and the quality of the food is unbelievable. This combo has 3 tyles of meat and 2 sides - usually we go to onions rings and sweet corn, to add some "veggies" to the meal :) They have as well a good selection of beers. Personally I prefer the mixed berries lemonade, which is fresher and better ( because of my "diet" lol). Note - no vegetarians allowed. They will have a heart attack. read more

Absolutely love this restaurant. As soon as I got there I was greeted with a smile and to seat myself to be able to sit wherever I want I did come at a time where hopefully there was less traffic a little closer to closing time on a Sunday. The server was very kind as was the hostess. The food was amazing I definitely ordered more food than I could eat but that's kind of an accident that I tend to make everywhere I go. But it was amazing the meat was cooked to perfection. the potatoes that I ate were delicious and I really enjoyed the coleslaw was a very nice mix of some cucumber with purple cabbage delicious. I will go back 1 million times over next time I come from America I will definitely revisit. read more

Incredible food. Less than friendly staff. We stumbled upon the gem when we got lost roaming around Dublin. The atmosphere looked cool and we couldn't wait to try the food, but the staff seemed more worried about getting us out than anything else. My sister had the cheeseburger and I had the pork in a box. It's safe to say the cheeseburger was one of the best burgers of our lives. Juicy and gooey cheese grilled to perfection. The pulled pork was great- succulent and smokey. Came with 2 sides, corn was great, mash was a bit meh. Overall, I'd go again but hopefully be treated better. read more

3 of us got the tasting board (50 euros) which included all the meats, 2 bears and 2 sides. The beef rib was an all around favorite and delicious. The homemade ranch is good as well. This platter is enough for 4 people moderately hungry people. Great ambiance and service. Definitely worth the money. read more

Random little corner restaurant we walked by. Menu is pretty simple , not very descriptive. We sat outside on one of the picnic tables. Felt like we were at a bbq. Wish we had one of these in the U.S. I had the sausage on bread. By far the best thing I've ever had! The combination of everything on that sandwich was amazing. Sweet caramelized onions, sandwich spread with chunks of pickles, 3slices of sausage, and a crunchy onion ring to top it off . Great!! read more

Ordered food takes them over 20 mins to prepare. The head chefs remarks regarding that aren't very pleasant either. The food you will receive, meat quantity will be the lowest. I wouldn't have the food from this restaurant ever again. They do not even treat the Deliveroo riders with respect who are helping them to deliver their food. So definitely avoid going to this restaurant. read more

What can I say, My Meat Wagon is one of my favourite spots for a meat feast!! The food is top notch and there is a very good selection! It just falls apart. . So so tasty. . The chirizo sausage is ridiculous!! Even writing this is making me want to go back. . The staff are all very friendly. The vibe is laid back and rustic. They also have a great selection of beers. This place is sooooo tasty :o The mixed platter has a giant, beautifully seasoned beef rib, a heap of tasty slow cooked pulled pork and a quarter of a roast chicken thrown in for good measure. We got ours with fries and beans (the bbq beans have chunks of pulled pork throughout) and were both stuffed for less than twenty quid. I have recommended it to everyone I know in Smithfield or living within delivery range! Bonus points for the complimentary refresher bars with the bill :D read more

The food compared to the other places in Dublin was good. Not truly like some bbq places in the states, but still good. The price is a little pricey as well, and the service was good, the staff was friendly and our server did let us know of some nice pubs to go visit in the area. The only draw back is that its in a somewhat busy market place and there are some shady type people around, so just be careful while walking around. read more

After touring the Jameson Distillery, I figured I should line my stomach (yeah, I know, kind of backwards), but one of the nice employees in the Jameson gift shop suggested My Meat Wagon. After extolling all of it's virtues, I was more than happy to try it out for myself..... a special thanks to her, because this was the most pleasant suprise of my day. I ordered the cow on a board (no typo) and it was a FEAST at a reasonable price. My only issue was no drafy beer or Guinness at all. Hey can't be perfect, but it is close. read more

I'm American and I approve of this restaurant. The service was good other than we had to ask for waters twice. The ambience and decor were a little too overdone but I've seen places like it in the states. The food was really good- I actually loved the pickled veggies that came with my cow in a box. The brisket was passable, the seasoning was unexpected on it. The purple slaw and potato salad were surprisingly satisfying. The BBQ sauce was too vinegar-y for my taste and should either have been more spicy or more sweet, it was in the middle so just a vinegar-y middle of the road sauce. My husband's burger was cooked perfectly and the mini pot of coleslaw he got had a nice spice to it. I had a glass of the Syrah which was described as a guzzler which I totally agree with. It's a lovely drinkable red that I had to force myself to savor instead of chug- but that also could have been my need for that glass of water. We are fascinated by seeing another country's interpretation of American cuisine- since American restaurants interpret other cuisines all the time- and this was a great meal. read more

Exactly as advertised... beef, pork, chicken BBQ. A lot of healthy sides to balance your meal. Fast friendly service. Large portions... priced right! Nice relaxing atmosphere.... eat inside or outside. Right near the movie theater. read more

I go here somewhat regularly since it's close to home and always enjoy it. I think of it as decent bbq, not amazing. However I have high standards having lived in Austin for a while. Personally I think the pulled pork is the way to go here. Skip the corn in the cob and go for beans and mash as sides. read more

Spectacular American Barbecue in Dublin. Do yourself a favor and head here before or after you visit the Jameson Distillery. My wife simply said "I love it"! We had the beef platter with brisket and beef ribs that have been smoked for 10 hours! Highly recommend! read more

As far as BBQ in Dublin goes.. I've only been to Pittbros and Aussie BBQ. My meat wagon has won hands down, no question about it! The nicest brisket I've had ever and I've tried it everywhere now including in the states. The place itself is tiny but we were lucky enough to arrive when it wasn't busy. You can choose your meat (cow,pig,chicken) either on a board or in a box. Then you choose your sides. The menu is pretty straight forward but they had a specials board for during the weekdays with duck and lamb :).. Also a little homemade lemonade board and a desert menu. I had the chilli and mint lemonade which was so refreshing and interesting. I got the mixed meat platter with two sides. Abit of everything to try it all out for the first time. The pulled pork was the nicest I've had but the brisket was the winner. I'm sure it was salt rubbed it had that crispy blackened, salty crust which I love.. Then when you put your fork in it, it falls apart. Mouth watering! The burnt beans with bits of brisket going through where also amazing .. Spicy and sweet I'd recommend :) .. Chips in the trolley so cute.. Mash with bacon bits yum.. And stinger bars or refreshers on the way out?.. Nice touch my meat wagon I will be back again in such a hurry! read more

No, we were on a mission to consume as much smoked dead animal, coffee, pints, and antibiotics as we could before his dad came to collect him. FOR HE IS A MAN OF LIMERICK, and a kind soul - rare to find in those westerly parts. My spouse and sprog were also dressed for social warfare determined to keep up with the appetite of the warlords recently returned to the Fatherland.. Seated in the middle of the hall, a pedestal raised for the show ahead. My woman spotted her kin working the rounds and bent up to query her nationality. A match! A southerly piriguete ready to do our bidding and translate everything off the menu - CORN ON THE COBS for everyone in the audience. Do I have your attention?! Do I still have your attention? .. my meat is getting cold resting on the table while the kitchen gremlins in the back fetch water for the table next to us.. Eventually, it arrives, and I'm not surprised.. It's exactly what I ordered.. Not mushy as sometimes can happen if it sits too long. This pork was simply amazing. Smokey, moist and perfect. I added some of the BBQ sauce, and it was simply deliscious. Chicken wings - cooked to perfection. Also asked for them to be dry so that we could try the different sauces. So tender and juicy. Mac n' Cheese - sometimes places will have a big pan and will just scoop it out onto the plate. Not here at Smonin' Bones. They make it fressh and put it into a dish, add some extra cheese on top and then broil it. So yummy. I could have eaten a lot more of it. Baked Beans - probably my least favorite of the night. The beans were a little under-done, so they had a little bit of a crunch. But the flavor was good. Keep working on that. Overall a wonderful, delightful surprise.
