I'm a frequent traveler, and have already hit some incredible food spots here in Houston. This is now at the top of my breakfast and coffee/tea stops. Drink: I had a divine dirty chai latte with pistachio nut milk (a new milk for me) which really added a fresh twist on a classic morning beverage favorite. La Vita's owner, a very sweet and passionate man who clearly loves what he's doing here, shared that they fly in their chai in powder form from Italy. No nasty syrups or pre-mixed chai here and I can absolutely tell the difference! Food: I had THE BEST everything bagel with bacon, egg, and cheese since my last trip to Manhattan. I won't spill the beans on how they achieve this, but they have legit true NYC bagels here. DO NOT PASS ON THIS sandwich! You'll be very sorry you did. I feel like I'm perpetually on the hunt for a good donut AND coffee shop, usually I've found places that are either or, and it feels like finding a place that does both well is a bit like searching for a unicorn. This came up as being close to my Pilates spot, and I'm glad I stopped in. The coffee was fantastic! My husband asked for the Mexican Mocha (and the mocha is made in house, so good) and I had the coconut honey latte, iced. We both thoroughly enjoyed our coffee's, they were smooth, velvety, and gave us the jolt we needed. The donuts were standard. Nothing great, nothing to write home about. I'll admit that I was somewhat disappointed when I walked in that it didn't seem authentic like I thought it would be. I expected a real French atmosphere and staff, but obviously that's not fair to the place. That's not a critique, but the expectation did influence my experience. The second thing I notice was about the "house-made flavors" for the coffee. I saw the adjective of "house-made" in the Yelp menu pictures which is what got me excited. In-house syrups is the factor that brings me to a coffeeshop. That's what tells me this is the real deal, that this place is putting in real effort to craft a balance drink. Melange realizes this as well. They knew that would draw people, but let me tell you, these flavors are not "house-made." I literally saw a bottle of Monin syrup on the counter. How that is made in house I can't comprehend. Look, I saw the jars of nutella on the counter behind the glass wall, which may make my question sound stupid, but I dumbly thought those were just for the crepes. So when I walked up to the register, I asked the guy "How do you make the nutella flavor for the coffee?" I wanted to know because I myself have tried mixing nutella into my drip coffee at home and it never dissolves. In response, he stared at me in confusion. I rephrased: "Like how do you put the nutella in the latte?" He simply said, "Thin nutella." I did not confront him about the "house-made" adjective on the chalkboard. I did not have it in me. But I thought maybe this could still be good. I was handed a paper cup, which also disappointed me, for I expected a mug, but I can only hold that against myself. The real cardinal sin of coffeeshops that was committed here was that I could not taste the coffee. I am not kidding when I say it tasted like hot nutella milk and that was it. Obviously it tasted good-I like the taste of nutella. But that's not what I ordered. Now again I'm non-confrontational and there were only two employees who were working on a bunch of other orders so I didn't bother complaining. But the lack of coffee in my latte is the bulk of my frustration with Melange Creperie. I also should mention that my latte was decaf, which could have contributed to the distinct lack of coffee taste, I'm not sure, but that seems like an important detail. Now I did enjoy my sausage crepe. The white cheddar and egg were smooth and velvety and the mustard added a nice acidity to contrast with the andouille sausage. But it does feel overpriced at $16 and I wish there was a bit more sausage. If I lived in Houston, I would probably return to try more crepes, but I would never order coffee from here again.

And the grab-n-go area has their overnight oats, chia puddings, plus bottled drinks. Prices aren't listed but there's a menu with prices + other items like sandwiches, bowls, and salads. The menu is expansive-- don't forget the coffee and drinks too! For the pastries, the croissants are always beautiful but the texture isn't what I'd call a typical croissant. I've tried the croissant swirls (circle croissants) and more traditional versions, and they have more of that soft bready texture of a grocery store croissant. Maybe reheating it at home makes it flakier? The cookie croissant is my favorite croissant even though I wouldn't consider it a true croissant based on texture alone (more of a soft buttery bread with cookie dough!). The cookies are big and thick but definitely on the softer side without much chew. I do love their cake jars-- the moist layers matched with a whipped frosting make an extra delicious treat! The overnight oats and chia puddings are extra tasty as well (more of a dessert :P) It's definitely busy-- besides for the dining experience, people come here to study, work, and hangout. There's a drive through but not sure how efficient that is, so try ordering through their website instead. There's also a loyalty program! It is actually filthy underneath the initial beautiful surface. It came to the point that I feel icky being there. I hope the owners (and responsible management) take action prior to seeing declining sales and profit. To the owners: I worked in restaurant management years ago, please message me and I will help you recover and maintain your business. This will have you lose your loyal customers.
