I am writing this review on behalf of my parents. In 2018, I found My Hearing Center (Torrance) helpful as my mother forgot to bring her charger while we were out of state and on vacation. I called them for help, and they were able to help us find a store that had a charger, which saved my mom's vacation. On the other hand, my parents were charged over $6,000 for a pair of Signia hearing aids for my mom in July of 2024. The hearing aids they (not my parents) chose were quite large and bulky. My mom lost one hearing aid within a week. When I called My Hearing Center (Torrance) to see if there was a cost-effective way to replace it, they mentioned insurance would cover the lost one for the price of $3,000, which doesn't really sound like insurance but was the cost of a new hearing aid. We opted to go to Costco Hearing Aid Center and are getting two Philips hearing aids and a charger for $1,600. I made an appointment in the Torrance office for me and my girlfriend, who was diagnosed with early onset dementia. Since hearing loss is a contributing factor in dementia, I was very much hoping to get her hearing tested and find out ASAP if her hearing was an issue. I was called back by Crystal who took some information and then asked for insurance. They did not accept my girlfriend's insurance and gave me another facility to call. I told her that I still wanted to get my girlfriend's hearing checked and was brushed off by Crystal saying it's not your best use of time to come in. I told her I would still like to come in, but she kept pushing back and become quite indignant telling me it's not the best use of your time and I needed to call the other facility repeatedly. The truth was, it was not in Crystal's best interest. If you offer free hearing tests, you should honor it regardless. I was very insulted by her lack of courtesy and honesty. I usually do not write reviews unless a line has been crossed. In this case, I felt that the claim of a free hearing test was not forthright. It should be free hearing tests only if we take your insurance! If Crystal was honest and stated this fact rather than out right refusing to accommodate us and making it seem like she was doing me a favor, I would not be writing this review. I bought a $7000 hearing aid from them in late 2018 and unfortunately I was in the middle of moving and didn't have time to have them teach me how to use it. My bad. I thought I could figure it out for myself, but I couldn't. I only wore it once. Now they refuse to make an appointment for me to come in to show me how to use it, and instead, they keep soliciting me to come in and buy a new one, which I feel is outrageous. I guess they don't care about their customers, and only making money. read more

The wife went here to get tested and fitted for hearing aids. She noticed on the final billing that they tacked on an additional $1000 to clean the hearing aids for the next year, which was not mentioned before. Needless to say she backed out buying from them. The new company she went to was a bit cheaper and the cleaning was free. Be cautious for paying service that should be free. read more

Like Marilyn B., I saw my insurance policy billed for $10500 for a $6900 pair of devices. Furthermore the provider identified for the claim is a doctor I'd never heard of, let alone been assessed by; my interactions were all with Julie Nielsen, a hearing aid dispenser. Although I think the aids did incrementally help my hearing, I returned them - with only minor inconveniences - as soon as I became aware of the unexpectedly high bill submitted. A full refund was issued. Closing out the claim with my insurance company took over 2 months and multiple calls. read more

Please beware of this office......On Friday 9/13 I called and received an answer phone. I left a message to see if I could get 1 hearing aid repaired this week as I was going on vacation. Today is Wednesday the 18th of Sept and so far no phone call. I doubt there will ever be one as maybe this specialist doesn't want nor return calls from new clients. Today is Thursday 19 Sept 2019. Remember I called last Friday 13 Sept 2019. So far no phone call returned by them. People I will keep you up to date on this problem. BUT watch how they throw this as my fault!!! I am updating my review. I still don't recommend them as they do sell all types of hearing aids but aren't expert at servicing any of them. But, I contacted them and told them how unhappy I was (remember, 7 grand for a pair!) And they did give me a partial refund. Doesn't charge business model, but they did try to make it right. My Hearing Centers stated they were part of our preferred providers through insurance. They weren't. They billed insurance $10500 for a$6900 pair of aids. Quite a shock to find out that we owed $9110 to co as insurance would only cover one aide because they were not a preferred provider. They did eat the cost of the other aide. However their shenanigans caused a higher minimum payment than we had been told. Aides are great but watch out for, in our opinions are shady practices. After posting this review I must report that I received a call from Julie. After some discussion she stepped in and had her staff call the credit card and got everything straightened out for us. Wish we had not had to go through the drama of it all but so very pleased Julie came to the rescue. My husband loves his hearing aids. I love not hearing "huh" every time he is spoken to. Went in for a second opinion with ongoing tinnitus. I was greeted by a smiling helpful and very professional receptionist, Crystal. After filling out paperwork, Dr Julie Nielsen eagerly greeted me. I explained my predicament to which was very empathetic. After the hearing test, she told me I was not a candidate for hearing aids. She was very upfront with and didn't hold anything back. She told me what to expect with tinnitus and how to cope. She made me feel very comfortable. I highly recommend Dr Julie Nielsen for any audiology needs. read more

I have received unwanted, harassing snail mail EVERY WEEK for a DECADE from this horrific business. I have never called nor foot inside this business and NEVER WILL. Just a thought: Maybe harassment isn't the best way to bring in new customers. read more

The day I put them on, I cried. I was so shocked to hear paper shuffle, creaking of a chair, people talking down the hall. I came back the following week and Julie helped with the app that I can control the microphone direction. The quality of life I now have because of these little pieces of electronics has drastically changed for the better. No more ringing in the ears. No more people talking to my ear instead of my face. No more asking five times what that person at the store is asking me. read more

These people keep sending me mailers at least once a week! I sent the last two back with a note asking to be removed from their mailing list or I will submit a review. They continue again and again, they should save a tree and stop! I'm old, but there's nothing wrong with my hearing, thank God! They must get names from the Social Security Office. read more

He provided concise, understandable answers to whatever questions were asked and helped to clarify any confusion. I had my hearing checked here and Julie Nielsen Jenkins and staff were wonderful!! They are all very friendly and kind. I was quickly checked in and my test and exam were done in a professional and efficient manner. My results were sent over to my ENT before my appt. with him on the same day later in the afternoon. They also gave me a copy of all my results. I highly recommend them to anyone needing a hearing test/ear exam. read more

I had noticed over the last few years that my hearing was slowly diminishing. The final straw was when I went to a comedy show at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood. I noticed that during some of the funniest parts, people sitting around me would laugh, and I was not able to hear what they were laughing about. That was the final straw. I saw Dr. Daneshrad at his Redondo Beach office and he recommeded that I have my hearing tested by his audiologist, Julie at SoCAL Hearing South Bay. She found that my hearing had become impaired so much that a hearing aid would be recommended. Of course, my ego made me select one that would not be visible to the average person. Julie installed hearing aids in both of my ears. Almost immediately I noticed that traffic noises and restaurant noises were very irritating, and was unsatisfactory, although improved. After about a week Julie changed my hearing aids to Siemens hearing aides that were barely visible behind my ears. As soon as I left the office, I was amazed by the improvement in my hearing quality. Traffic noise nearly disappeared, and the irritating clatter of dishes in restaurants was vastly improved. In fact I almost went back to the office and told her that these were the ones I wanted. Last week, my wife and I went hear a concert at the Walt Disney Husic Hall to hear a concert with a 175 piece orchestra and an 80 piece choir. I was amazed with the quality of the music, even the high notes and kettle drums were outstanding. My only regret is that I waited so long to have hearing aids installed. My mom saw Dr. Leiterman for her hearing aids. He was fantastic - patient, thorough, amicable, and clear. He made her feel very comfortable with the entire visit, and made sure she felt comfortable putting on and taking off her hearing aids, using the app, and understanding how they work. My mother forgot her hearing aid charger while we were on a two week vacation on Oahu, which was challenging because I couldn't figure out what model it was or where to get one locally. After calling a few hearing aid stores in the Honolulu area, one advised that I call the place where my mother purchased hers. After some deduction, I called My Hearing Centers and was tremendously helped by one of the staff members. I'm sorry that I can't remember her name because this particular staff member went above and beyond to not only help me understand what model it was but also to help locate a place nearby that sold a charger. For as large a city as Honolulu is, there was only one place that had this particular charger. And Amazon doesn't have two day shipping like on the mainland so our vacation was pretty much saved by My Hearing Centers. If I could, I would give them more than 5 stores for this alone. read more

Be careful on their aggressive lunch presentation sales approach! After the presentation, I was "requested" (almost forced) to choose a time slot for a free hearing test appointment. Then, When I arrived for the free hearing test, I was asked to sign on a sheet of Insurance/deductible responsibilities, When I asked why I need to sign Insurance/deductible patient responsibilities for a free testing? She said it just for in case. After I signed it, then she asked me to turn in my insurance card to check my insurance coverage. This caused my doubt and asked her. She asked me if I am ready to make purchase? I told her I was "requested" to choose an appointment time for the free test and not ready to commit myself for purchase at the time. She said it would be useless to conduct the test and turn me away. She even blamed this to miscommunication. This is absolutely not truth (my hearing is still good and I had worked in a 600+ employees company for 26 years). It's all their aggressive sales strategy! Not an honest merchant.
