Clean, spacious work out areas for aerobics and weight training equipped with giant, flat screen TVs. All treadmills and bikes are brand-new and have personal flatscreen TVs in which you can either monitor your work out or tune in to a television program. Then there are three different rooms for exercise classes. There is a large room for popular classes such as Zumba, etc. There is another room with bikes for spin classes. There is also a third room for smaller fitness classes. As mentioned earlier the new managers have been adding lots more classes than in the past. The locker rooms are very high end. The locker doors themselves are made of glass and are very premium. The sauna is really nice and super clean. When you enter the gym you feel like you are entering a hotel lobby. Beautifully decorated front desk which also serves healthy shakes and other snacks. What I like the best about this gym is the very comfortable, clean, high-end atmosphere at an affordable price. The reason for the four stars is there are some repairs that still need to be made, such as several broken locker doors in the men's locker room. But make no mistake, this is the best gym option in the Freehold area and It is highly recommended, especially with the new management!

Unfortunately I echo many of the other reviews on this site - poor customer service and employee training-resulting in terrible customer experience. I recently went to the spa for a massage. Upon checkout the receptionist told me there was a note on my file for 20% off my service. She reached out to the spa manager who indicated since there was no name or date on the note that they should ignore it and did not honor the discount. When questioned they said that it was an employee error. Seems like the customers bear the brunt of all employee errors--I did send a note to the GM - Hayden Duffy. I look forward to a response.

This Retro is run by owners Alan and Stella and they are to be commended for their commitment to running a gym that operates very professionally while maintaining a hometown feel to it. I really appreciate the fact that the owners are onsite making sure the gym runs smoothly. They are very friendly and available to their clients. Their gym is very clean and the locker room smells good. The ladies locker room often has fresh flowers. They have a great selection of equipment. I especially appreciate that they have two excellent rowers and four excercise bikes with arms that provide more of a full body workout. The other gym I went to only had one mediocre rower and two of those bikes which meant oftentimes you had to wait to use them. And that was at a much larger gym. They have an outstanding training team that really care and go above and beyond led by Tom Wiley. Without his encouragement I wouldn't be much healthier today and 40 pounds lighter. They also provide nutritional assistance which I have found immensely helpful in helping me attain my weight goals. Trainer Elyse Kakos has been especially helpful in guiding me thru weight training and providing meal plans and recipes. Her passion to help clients holistically goes above and beyond any experience I have had or heard about being provided at any other gym. I would continue at this gym just for the excellent training provided to me that is invaluable. It's not expensive! Compared to many other gyms I think you get the most for your money at Retro Middletown. I also like that there is a wide age range of people there and people at all different levels of fitness. It's a very welcoming atmosphere I don't feel intimidated and people are polite. Lastly, I like their location with Walgreens right next door and Shop Rite in the same plaza.
