I came here once to work out. As a guest, you need to pay $16, which is a lot for a one-day pass! So that's a negative. Also, this gym is filled with your stereotypical New Jersey gym bros. Prepare for chest bumps and muscle tanks! However, some positives are that this location is pretty spacious, with a weights section, a class studio, a stretch-out grass section, and a cardio section. Their kettlebell collection is weak, but they have a good amount of everything else. Their locker room is just like NYSC, except they have one of those liquids that functions as body wash and shampoo. Those tend to be garbage for your hair, but it was fine for the body. read more

I am extremely disappointed with Jersey Strong gym in Manalapan, NJ. Several pieces of equipment have been broken for over two months, and nothing has been fixed. This is completely unacceptable, especially considering how much members pay for their memberships. It feels like management does not care about maintaining the facility or providing a proper workout environment. Members are forced to wait for machines or skip exercises entirely because the equipment is out of order for such a long time. I would not recommend this gym to anyone. However, members wouldn't let us stay in the class. Spacious & functional is descriptive of the gym. There's a large variety of equipment, from cardio to free weights but they have been put trough the ringer. The facility, locker rooms, and equipment doesn't look the cleanest, which is due mostly to the cleaning staff, or lack there of. The best thing about this gym is the members. They are amazing! I usually have trouble waking up getting to the gym and when I get there early in the morning, there are the local members putting in sweat and tears to stay fit. They are truely motivating! I had to just stop my work out and post this review in awe of this. Jersey strong is affordable, is why I joined after my old gym closed. Basic membership starts at $9.99/mo with $45 annual fee, and ramps up if attending classes and ability to use other facilities throughout the state. They offer aerobic, cycling, zumba, and yoga classes. Their weekend hours could be better, but their staff and trainers are friendly and capable. I wound up cancelling my credit card and then they tried to back charge me. customer service is non existent once you join. They are cheap.. but has equipment that does the job. Their management/owners suck big time. You can't ever get in touch wtih them and their staff are helpless to members other than telling you to place your complaint by email and you never hear back. I hate the fact their staff sits on their ass and look at their cells in the office. I see benches blocking the fire exits - god forbid there is a fire. The cleaning staff works hard, but they need more staff. The trainers are blind to misplaced equipment. Workout benches all over place in the boxing area, places where they shouldn't be and people just not putting equipment away. Been going here for almost 5 years and I had to give a 1 star rating after hearing that they increased basic to 30 dollars a month with a 90 dollar yearly service fee for a basic single gym membership. Not sure about the previous negative reviews for this gym - I have had nothing but positive experiences since joining a few months ago. I find this gym to be generally very clean. Most of the teachers are excellent!! - I enjoy classes and do Spin, yoga, and Centergy. There's a phone app that is excellent for picking your class and reserving your spot - and every day of the week there are many different classes to choose from. I emailed customer service twice about minor issues, and received prompt and polite responses. I go to the Marlboro location as well, and find it equally nice. While I don't go to the Jersey Strong in Manalapan, I did go to the gyms in Freehold and Marlboro. And let me tell you these guys are crooks, When I first got a membership they told me "cancel whenever! you're a student!" or "you can freeze it when you are away at school!" Needless to say neither are the case. While I did freeze my membership, I got charged as not a student for an extra 5 a month. Plus what a load of horseshit 10 bucks for a membership that is frozen. Shit is insane. This gym sucks and I have tried to cancel my membership multiple times, but there it is the first of every month for $10! now they are saying I have to write a letter telling them I want to cancel. The owners/management of Jersey Strong are impossible to talk to or deal with! My husband and I have been members of this gym for 13 years, (Elite, WOW) and now "Jersey Weak" for its customers. We are seniors, 73 and 74 years old. We had a contract! The powers that be refused to honor the contract! There should be a senior membership because the offer of a 24 hour gym, offers of strong body building classes and the other enhancements are irrelevant to most people like us. I.ve been a gym member in various locations for over three decades this gym has the best appartus in any gym that i've been a member, carlos the manager of the edison nj was very helpful courteous as well as professional. the members i found to be as courteous and helpful as my being disabled. the trainer peter was also friendly as was danny at your juice bar. they have a machine to kill the bacteria as well as cleaning stations. i will recommend this gym to others easily read more

I joined this gym last year and honestly it's been so amazing. It's not as expensive as a lot of other gyms in the area, and it's so large with a whole variety of classes to take! THE END IS NEAR..... Jersey Strong (JS) is trying its best to go out of business... I have been a loyal member for many years, but will probably quit before JS files for bankruptcy protection and locks its doors. They don't care at all about their members. * Raising membership and annual maintenance costs. I pay a premium for access to classes and they are cancelling all their classes. * Old dirty machines. Dark, pothole ridden parking lots. Elevator music played over busted speakers. Poor ventilation. Dusty old lighting. * Impossible to speak with anyone who knows anything. Only contact is through an online support portal that gets answered by that same person who doesn't know anything. * No one is in-charge. I challenge you to actually speak with a person. After 1/2 hour of internet searching, I was able to find a corporate number, but if don't know the name of the person that you are calling (before you call), then the call disconnects. And the local clubs are not authorized to give out anyone's name. * Using the COVID excuse - it is not an excuse. The Crunch across the street listens to what their members want - and they are packed every night. On a busy day, there are maybe 20-30 people in the JS. * Paid for PT that I cannot use because it was frozen before COVID and no one knows how to re-activate it. And besides, despite getting multiple email every week asking me to sign-up for more PT, there is no one left to do PT. * Canceling the most popular classes and often with no notice. * The place is a real downer; members feel cheated, workers know they'll soon lose their job. Everyone knows the end is near, and that it is only a matter of time before they file bankruptcy, fire the staff, lock the doors and walk away with our monthly dues and annual cleaning fee. The 1.8 million dollar renovation looks exactly the same as Elite. In fact, I liked Elite better. They charge you way too much (it's never just the 20 dollars) and they do not let you cancel their membership. People can be very rude there and if you're not giving them money they don't help you. Some people are very nice (trainers, desk workers), but most are snobby. Corporate is a nightmare to deal with and I will never go there again. I joined a new gym and still have to pay monthly dues at WOW because I can't cancel. I would rather pay extra money to not go there, however. read more

Just finished a 1 year contract and was looking to renew for the 9.99/mo entry level as opposed to the 35/mo I was paying because I didn't use most of the services that came with that rate. Even though I fulfilled my 1 year contract, they told me it would cost $167.00 (downgrade fee) to start a new contract at the lower rate. Jersey strong has a mix of equipment to satisfy whatever your level of workout is. By virtue of the amount of equipment you have several different ways to achieve the same targeted goal and you rarely have to wait for a machine. I have used their personal training and i came with a permanent shoulder injury that i thought had been rehabbed as much as possible. My trainer (Mike) created an exercise plan that has improved that shoulder and my fitness ten fold. Good gym all around read more

I really like this gym. For the price it's amazing. There are so many options for classes and they're hard!! I have been in the best shape of my life at this gym. I have a PT package and it's good. I am not happy with the price ($90 month for 2 sessions) but it keeps me on track and I always do more in a session that on my own. I think they could do a better job keeping the facilities clean but it's definitely way better than retro or other busy gyms. Why pay $100 a month for classes when you can pay $30 and have a variety?? They're led by serious fitness people too. I really love the selection. I take knock out, barre, spin, trx, team training, and fight. They're all good options. Highly recommend. Just don't get sucked into their promos. read more

I came in as a visitor - the experience was okay b/c I ran on the treadmill and did my usual weights however the facilities were filthy. I was a member of WOW back in college and it was THE best gym. I've been to the one in Ocean, the one in Marlboro and I had visited the one in Manalapan a while back. They used to be much more cleanly. Back then - memberships were 50-60/month. Since they've reduced their rates over the years things have certainly slipped. Definitely a case of you get what you pay for. This particular visit, there was dust and hair just about everywhere. I used the Jacobs Ladder machine and had to remove dust from the machine as I'm working out because it was flying at my face. The floor over by the weights is beyond warn - there are holes everywhere. I didn't really see anything wrong with the equipment but the place definitely needs a deep clean. Take this review with a grain of salt b/c I may have been spoiled by Equinox. Granted I pay a shit ton - but the only reason I feel dirty walking out of an Equinox is b/c I worked my ass off - not because I was fighting dust bunnies and dodging hairballs. read more

In December of 2019 I cancelled my membership. In writing it said my last billing date was 12/1/2019 and that my membership would effectively end at the end of that month. However, on January 2, 2020 I was charged the monthly fee. I went to the Manalapan Jersey Strong location and they said the cancellation didn't go through even though I have confirmation AND the website said it was cancelled. Now, they say that my membership will not cancel until the end of this month (January of 2020), therefore making me pay for the extra month. This a false, misleading "resolution" due to me canceling nearly 2 months prior. I just want my money back as I followed all the procedures. This is the worst business I have dealt with, which is a shame. There are also many complaints that mirror mine, so use good judgement when choosing a gym. read more

Came into the facility with a five day pass this past month, with the intention to return to the gym after finishing my final semester of physical therapy school. On the last day of my five day pass, I had called in and asked if I was still allowed in. The trainer said yes, I could come in. Once I got in, I was asked if I was going to join the gym, and I told the trainer I would join once my semester ends (in one month). Despite the fact that I told him I would join in one month AND calling in ahead of time to see if my five day pass was still active, I was DENIED access to the gym. I've been to other WOW's and this by far had the worst service. There's plenty of gyms out there, and this is not one I recommend my patients, clients, and friends go to accomplish their fitness goals. read more

If I could, I would give WOW overall 0 stars. I know this review is meant for the one in Manalapan, but I signed up for the one in Freehold and they lied to me. The person I talked to, Andrew, straight up lied to my face multiple times about the fees and cancellation. He even offered to workout with me the very day I signed up for my membership. But guess what, he never answered back, ignoring my text. They literally stole over a hundred dollars from me and when I called their corporate offices, they simply did not help one bit. Useless. WOW is a terrible business, that should never exist. Don't get sucked into their bs deals. It's not even worth it. I wish I could give zero stars. I submitted a 12 month freeze on my account in 9/2020, however my credit card was charged monthly dues 9/21/2020, 10/1/2020 and 11/1/2020 plus an annual fee charge on 11/1/2020. I contacted my local Menlo Park Club on 11/2/2020 to report this issue, and they assisted with opening a support ticket to have these charges refunded back to me. Since then, I have called them many times and been told they cannot assist and only corporate can assist. I am also told that corporate does not have a working phone # and all I can do is email a response to my support ticket, which I have done many times. Corporate has not replied to my emails or support tickets. I then opened another support ticket on 12/9/20 to have my membership cancelled since I am unable to do it myself with my account status being on freeze. They have not responded to any of my emails or support tickets from September, November and December, and all my calls to my local club have left me with zero assistance, as they tell me they are just the face of the company and unable to assist me in any way. They advised that they don't even have a phone # for corporate. I have never heard of such a thing! The facts are that there is a freeze on my account (which I can see online) and my credit card was still charged. I would expect better customer service that in 3 MONTHS they should respond. I also don't understand how none of the local clubs in NJ have any way to contact corporate. The managers don't even have a phone # for corporate... it's like the corporate office doesn't exist! This is beyond disappointing. Worst customer service I have ever experienced. I've been trying for 3 months to speak with someone, but I will now have to report these charges as unauthorized to my credit card. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Constantly advertising deals and sales and when you go in for them, they are never as promised. A year after I stopped receiving training, my account was debited $900 for "past due" training for an account that was supposed to be closed. I was told that I was responsible for the bills, even though I had not had an outstanding balance for a year and was charged all at once. They are completely fraudulent. They secretly charge your account without notifying you so that you think things are successfully cancelled and then hit you with a bill that you are suddenly responsible for. read more

I wish I could give this gym negative stars. Before this gym was taken over by Work Out World, it was once Elite Fitness which I was a member of for nine years, once Work Out World took it over everything went downhill. From the TV's that they took off all the cardio machines, to the smoothie bar that they got rid of, to a place that is no longer kept as clean and tidy as it once was. All the old trainers that I had been going to for years left and were replaced by inexperienced trainers. Work Out World tries to sell you on their low monthly fees, which I had no choice since they pretty much took over my old gym. But don't be fooled they bind you by getting you to sign a two year contract that states nothing of a "maintenance fee", why am I being charged an outrageous maintenance fee, as far as I can see there is no maintenance being maintained on this place! In addition, when I tried to cancel my gym membership after one month since I was not happy with the way the new gym was going and my new trainers, with no smoothie bar or sauna, or any of the old amenities the old gym owners offered, keep in mind that this is the only gym within 8 miles of my house, it was almost impossible to get a hold of anyone to talk to about my concern, they would either direct you to their website or to take it up with corporate via email which I did send them several emails, with no response ever. Put it this way, it's easier to get a divorce then it is to break a contract with this gym! Run far, far away from this place! The owners of Work Out World are all crooks! I would rather drive 30 minutes then 10 minutes to go to a gym other than this one! They charge maintenance fees, and for what? This gym offers no amenities! I used to recommend Elite Fitness to everyone I knew, I would not recommend Work Out World Manalapan or any Work Out World franchise to anyone I know! This is my first time using this app and I had to express my opinion on this gym. I just wanted to say that this is a great gym. As soon as I signed up everything has been perfect, the staff are amazing, friendly and always willing to help their members succeed. There is a great selection of equipment such as weights and cardio machines. I recently have tried the classes as well and enjoy them the most. The teachers are excellent,they push me to my limit and make me want to keep working out hard everyday. The managers are very helpful and inviting they give you a tour of the gym and explain everything in detail. One in particular is Vanessa the general manager she is very personable and one of the reasons I chose Jersey Strong. My friends who have joined have also said that the other sales representative Josh was very accommodating and good to do business with.The front desk is very inviting and will help you with most of the problems you are having, they are easy to talk to and always put a smile on your face whether you are walking in for the first time or leaving the gym when you've finished your workout. Being a middle aged man, I sometimes struggle with weight and how to use certain machines. I love whenever I need anything I can always ask the friendly staff for their opinions, I often gravitate towards the trainers because they are very skilled at what they do and give me the greatest feedback I can use when working out. As far as the prices go I'm happy with the membership I chose, compared to other gyms Jersey strong has suitable prices for its members. The five free VIP visits? Sorry, really just one. They would have waived the $99 annual fee-until I insisted on actually working out on the equipment.
