Totally remodeled but efficiencies haven't improved. Still waited 1 hour just to get license plates. Waiting to see if I have all the proper paper work, stay tuned. Of course I didn't have the paperwork work filled out correctly, it was done by the dealership which I felt did a great job. Lee was only doing her job but it was by the book, so I had to leave and get a couple of signatures and returned and was supposed to be a priority but I've been waiting 40+ minutes. Me and my boyfriend went to take his test and there was another person in front of him when he went to go take his test well they took the route i took when i got mine but he took a completely different route and she marked him down by one point because he didn't know what a defrosted was. She was rude and was being sassy saying like " I know you're nervous i can tell cause you look anxious" like don't make him more nervous it's just so dumb. My boyfriend got this old lady who works there and is an instructor. I would say don't have here if your kid or partner is taking their test. read more

Awful mess by my house. Been going on for over a year. Looking like another year of construction. It's so bad it's causing problems with internet and water. Adot communication goes one way ...they tell you were are doing this and they don't want to hear a word from the families and individuals. This Surprise location isn't to bad, it's a little small. With the growth is Surprise, they will need to expand this place in the future. I get it, It's never a good experience when you have to go to one of these places. You have to wait in line just to get a number and then wait again to been seen, only to be told you have to come back with the correct paper work! Isn't that what usually happens? But compare this to the California DMV! This is a much better experience. Plus, the lines usually goes better fast. Just need to come in with a good attitude, people there are just doing there jobs. The wait wasn't too long, the person at the information desk was helpful and the person who helped me get my new AZ license was very nice. The process was only about 1/2 hour. Compared to Durango, Colorado, both the Sun City, AZ and Scottsdale DMV offices licensed my car and also issued a drivers' license, with a high degree of professionalism and integrity. Unlike the Durango, Colorado DMV who called the police to escort me out of their office, because they claimed I was asking too many questons, both the Sun City and Scottsdale offices took extra time to answer my questions, and were very patient, as were the folks behind me in line. Since my home state of Washington now refuses to renew my car and drivers license over the internet, then it is nice that Arizona can do this. Colorado, has similar policies, politics, and problems as Washington and also New Mexico; all three states need to learn from Arizona that they are essentially violating the 4th amendment by requiring intimate, personal information when issuing vehicle registrations and drivers licenses. They're also probably violating the interstate commerce clause. Freedom of mobility among all 50 states should not be blocked by legislatures in states run by the Democrat party, and that said, I'm young, but am essentially an old fashioned JFK Democrat who favors both civil liberties and low tax rates (i.e. essentially the same as a Ronald Reagan Republican)! read more

There was a nice overhaul to the building and it seemed like a nice overhaul to the employees. The clueless old lady at th front counter wasn't there but, I was refused human assistance for registration by the person who was. I registered online years back only to result in my credit card being used fraudulently immediately afterwards. I'd prefer to get this all done at a counter in the future but, oh well. It depends who is working with you. Had three working on my records . That goes from impolite till deficient information and means they ask you each time for documents they had scanned in two times before, making vision test every time again (within 2 days) although you have one from the eye doctor, too. And it means they have no time for questions, you have to stay quiet when they are typing and when they are talking, even there is no answer for what you would like to know urgently, they don't tell you that you can choose a plate for example. If you are new in this state and in USA that's all bad experience! Maybe I had 3 times bad luck and the good ones were busy with other clients... read more

My experience yesterday to get an AZ drivers licence was great: competent and friendly information desk and later the people behind the counters freindly and helpfull as well. They have no concern for people with disabilities, even though there is a sign on the door saying they would be happy to assist you. Today I was told "First come first served. You have to wait on the line". When I pointed out the "Happy to assist" sign The Big woman with the Red Hair and Tattoos covering her arms, said "That's after you get into the building". In the past a person with a disability was given head of the line privileges. If I could stand for that long I wouldn't be asking for consideration. I'm not impressed. read more

I visited this MVD office twice in the last couple of weeks. The wait wasn't horrible either time, but I was there for well over an hour (each time) trying to complete my task. I initially received fairly good customer service, but the knowledge level of these employees is disgraceful. I was registering an Ohio vehicle in Arizona and was told it needed an inspection. Brand new vehicles do not need inspections, I told them. Then, they told me I could not register the vehicle because the exact model was not listed in the NADA Guide. What?!?! How does the NADA Guide affect my registration and why is the Surprise MVD completely reliant on a third party website? I left in despair both times. Needless to say, I drove to the Scottsdale MVD and explained my situation. They had me in and out in 20 minutes with my Arizona registration! If interested, I completed a Yelp review for them as well. Surprise MVD needs some serious training and to stop wasting people's time. If you don't know what you're doing, stop asking customers to come back for multiple visits. Just be honest and refer them to a different MVD office. read more

ADOT sent my personal information to the wrong address, and they don't care. I'm an Active Duty member of the military, and I was recently married. My wife needed two forms of photo ID to get her dependent ID card. We relocated to Florida prior to getting married. She called ADOT to ask if she could simply send in her driver's license to have her last name updated, and they said that we could after completing a form and sending in color front and back copies of her social security card, passport card, and other such personal documents to include front and back copies of my military ID. We mail them in and hear nothing for two weeks. When she called, we were informed that the application was rejected because we didn't include front and back copies of her dependent ID. They never requested front and back copies of the dependent ID, and we couldn't get the dependent ID without the updated driver's license. They informed us (in a very rude manner) that none of this matters because they already sent our paperwork back to us, so we shouldn't be angry with them. Mind you; when we sent the application and documents, we included a prepaid envelope for them to send the new driver's license and our paperwork could have easily fit inside the envelope. They told us the address that they had sent the items to, and it was the wrong address. The wrong address wasn't a physical address, but oftentimes the post office will attempt to deliver mail to someone with a similar address. ADOT said that it was okay, because people usually just throw away mail that isn't theirs. What decade does ADOT think this is? ADOT thinks that it's okay to throw personal information in the trash, and that it's not a big deal to mail personal information to the wrong address. The application, some of the documents, and the prepaid envelope ALL had the correct address and ADOT still managed to send it to the wrong address. read more

I called ADOT and created a ticket and was assured the tags would be sent out....NOPE. I called again and had to leave a message and still no call back. What does it take to get service from this organization. They were quick to take my money. I have now sent an email to request it again...maybe 3rd time is a charm? I was interrupted about five times while asking questions with a "no we dont do that". Where do people who don't know how to park within the lines go? This place! LOL! But no worries, don't think about it when you're looking for a space that would fit more than a bike. You'll have plenty of time to think about how those people managed to obtain a Drivers License while you stand in the long, stagnant line OUTSIDE. Yes, you read this correctly! Due to the large amount of people who frequent this particular office & the tiny size of the building itself, the line starts outside. Don't forget your deodorant, water & walking shoes people! There is a tarp that covers the area where the line forms. As I stood there I saw little lights dancing on my skin and the floor & I thought "how cute, they drew designs on the tarp",,,, uhhh, no. There are tiny holes all over it from wear & tear, lol. I also observed the large number of people who feel it's necessary to bring an entourage.... really?! I understand needing moral support or witnesses from time to time, but PLEASE, this is not that place! Unless you're accompanying a senior citizen or minor, of course :) Once you get inside you stand in another line to get a #. Then you either sit in one of the retro looking and feeling seats OR you stand in any tiny space available waiting to be called up if all the chairs are taken. The people who work there are very appropriate (not friendly, but professional) & seem to do their job as quickly as they can. This place is too small and understaffed for the amount of traffic that goes through there. Someone said that after 2:45 the crowd thins out, but I don't know if it's really true, lol. It would have given it only 1 star, but they get an extra star because the employees were polite. read more

Renewed my tags online and never received them. When I called they told me I had to come in and pick them up. They told me to go to the info desk and they would print them for me. Not the case. Horrible experience. Long wait outside because their waiting room is tiny. 2 of the 3 people who serviced us were great; the woman who administered the road test, was a typically-dry, humorless bureaucratic robot. Go to Avondale MVD - much shorter wait and better overall experience. Also, it took me about 5 practice tries to park a crew-cab Nissan Frontier pickup between the 2 lines (for the T-park) and I'm an experienced driver. The larger/longer the vehicle, the harder it is and the government trolls don't seem to understand this or take it into consideration. I recommend that drivers with larger cars go somewhere like the Avondale MVD where they can just parallel park. read more

This place is terrible. The door clearly says open till 5pm. I worked until 430 and stopped to register my camper at 445. On the information line I was told I would not be seen because they stop giving out numbers at 430pm. There was not a customer in the place, and three ladies talking in a circle about the upcoming weekend plans. I was told I need to go to the 3rd party Mvd up the street and pay the extra charges Because I couldn't get there on time. Really? Website says 5. Door says 5. It was 442 at my interaction. Well the dmv still sucks. Hate the new way. No you have to stand for long periods of time since they took the chairs out. Only have 2 people working for these long lines is not enough. You will not get human help if you are trying to renew your tags they just let you struggle. I'm so glad I pay my outrages taxes to get treated like crap at government agency. read more

Unfortunately this is my third time having to come to the Surprise DMV and I can honestly say it is actually more confusing now with the kiosks than it was before when they didn't have them. They need to have someone by the door directing people to the kiosks if they can use them to handle their requests....vehicle registration renewals, drivers records, etc. Instead people all wait in the general line to be told to go to the kiosk, then come back to get your picture taken then go stand in another line to pay, etc. Also for how big this DMV is and how many people are jammed into this small building, why are there no signs directing people to help out or have more than one person working the general line. I just truly believe there has got to be a better more efficient way to handle the lines, and all the different requests. And if you require people to make appointments for road tests then you should ensure people are not waiting an hour for their test! read more
