Best sushi spot in the valley by far. It is tucked away in a small complex, but there is plenty of street parking and inside the lot. When you enter, wait to be seated. I love how this place serves fresh fish, awesome rice, and traditional Japanese sushi chefs make your sushi. We decided to sit at the sushi bar and order various items. I tried Halibut with Ponzu sushi, Kumamoto Oysters, Tuna Tataki, Salmon sushi, Sweet Shrimp sushi, Uni, and Salmon Eggs sushi. Awesome quality fish and the rice is the perfect amount. I love how they fried the shrimp heads and brought them out. Great service and great food. Overall, Omino Sushi is the best sushi spot in the valley. My boyfriend has been raving about this place for awhile until he finally convinced me to give it a try. I love finding good sushi spots and Omino definitely delivers. The place was pretty bumping when we got there about one hour before closing on a Saturday night but we stills managed to be seated and served in a timely manner. I pretty much loved every roll especially the crunch roll. I'm usually not a fan of crunch rolls but this one hit the spot. I've been here a couple of times for lunch and each time was just delightful! The sushi is always fresh and the service is top notch! The last time I came I ordered a combo lunch with teriyaki chicken with a spicy tuna roll. It was a lot of food but it was so good! I love how the teriyaki sauce comes on the side so you can control how much you want. It isn't as thick as other teriyaki sauces which I found to be a huge plus! There's a small lot for parking and lots of street parking. It shares a lot with a few other shops and another restaurant. So plan ahead when coming for lunch. read more

In a modest area of Chatsworth lies this little Sushi place. Service is slow so expect a wait if it's busy, but the seafood is very fresh and is very good. It beats the heck out of the competing sushi restaurant down the street that offers AYCE at a reasonable price, but I'd pick Omino's over it every time. No happy hour, AYCE, or special priced dishes though. The sushi chefs don't even imbibe with the customers. Among my favorites are the albacore belly (buttery good!) and Japanese scallops. The sweet shrimp is also very good and the fry the heads in tempura for you. A nice treat. The sweet shrimp is served raw because it's live on site right behind the sushi chefs. My new favorite sushi spot in the Northwest Valley. Omino is a legit Japanese sushi spot. The restaurant is located in a little mini-mall at the corner of Devonshire and Independence (across from McDonalds). The dining room is split up into sushi counter seating and a dining area to the left. We came in for dinner and got the soba noodles, yellowtail collar, salmon skin salad, dinner combo (beef teriyaki and sashimi), and a chirashi bowl. Interestingly enough, the chirashi bowl and the yellowtail collar were not on the menu, but we asked and it was available. All the food was very tasty. The beef had a very good grill flavor and the quality of the fish was noticeably excellent - firm and not grainy. Best of all, pricing was very reasonable with good portion sizes. read more

This place is one of the worst restaurants we've been to while visiting LA. We just ordered Sashimi. It was cut paper thin and we only got 8 pieces for $19. This was complete rip off. Not to mention, the salmon was smoked which is an indication of low turnover and old fish. I felt sick after ingestion. I LOVE this place! I kid not, but every time I have a s%@#y day at work I have one remedy, a bottle of ORION, amazing sushi, and my favorite sushi chef. Hence why I always end up at OMINO. The sushi here is good enough to convert those non-sushi eaters. I know, "gasp!" Who knew such people existed, right? Though it is quite costly, one must remember high prices go hand in hand with good sushi. The sushi here is amazing and the overall ambiance is quite "natsukashi" of my time living in Japan. I recommend sitting at the counter. Though at first the sushi chefs may seem unbending, after a few visits it becomes a place where they know your name and even offer recommendations tailored to your taste buds. This place was suggested by one of my friends, and after looking through the reviews on yelp, I decided it would be a good place to try. She has been there several times and said that it was good each time. When you walk in you are seated by the waitresses, all of whom seem to be Japanese, as do that sushi chefs. This is always a good sign to me! We ordered Miso soup and edamame to start off with. The edamame came out hot, which I always appreciate. The soup was good, nothing special. We ordered a spicy tuna roll, BSC roll, and a crunch roll to split. I'm not usually a fan of scallops but the BSC roll was amazing, and definitely a favorite for both of us. The crab inside the roll was real shredded crab, not the imitation stick that places try to force on you. Every sushi place I try, I end up getting a spicy tuna roll, and this one was delicious. The tuna tasted fresh and the roll wasn't too spicy. The crunch roll was good, but not a favorite. There wasn't much shrimp in it, it was basically just tempura. Omino Sushi is an incredible Chatsworth gem. This is definitely those "don't judge a book by its cover" kind of places. From the outside it's just your run-of-the-mill strip mall sushi joint with an ugly exterior.. but then you walk in..... you aren't going to find quality like this anywhere else in (or near) Chatsworth. They have fish you just don't see in many other places, tell you it's location of origin, and masterfully create some of the best sushi you could ask for. I really enjoy this place. The fish is always fresh and since I live up the street I see the international sea food delivery truck 2-3 times per day. We frequently order off menu items and they always perform. Good sushi is not cheap and cheap sushi is not good so if you are a bargain hunter, move along! I've been to Omino on and off for a couple of months and I"m always impressed by how fresh the fish tastes. Typically, I stick to the items on the daily board and those are always a treat. Granted, it can be a bit pricey but typically you can get full with around $20 worth. The sashimi tastes very clean and most of the items aren't the fried variety from the fusion places. Omino's been a family favorite for over 15 years. We come here so often that all the waitresss and owners know us. :) Service, of coures, is amazing! Since we're regulars and have tried most things on the menu, I usually stick with my go-to's when I come here: Tofu Salad: Cold sliced tofu on a bed of cabbage leaves with a sesame dressing. It's so simple yet so delicious. I know i can replicate it at home but sometimes you just want something comforting. Ahi Tuna Salad: My Fave! It's seared ahi tuna over a bed of mixed greens, jalapenos, japanese picked carrots, cilantro, with japanese dressing. The jalapeno really allows the flavors to come out of the tuna. So yummy! Tuna Steak, Sesame chicken dinner combo: This is my dad's go-to dish. The portion is pretty big and easy enough to share with 2 people. It comes with salad, rice, soup, bean sprouts, and green beans. Pricing is really good for this too. Tempura Udon: good ol comfort food. My sis and cousins have ordered this every time they've come for 15 years. It tastes the same as it did when i was a kid. The broth is great and the noodles are deliciously chewy. Sashimi: Everything is really fresh. The owner goes out to the market and makes sure you get the good stuff. My family is pretty picky about our fish so it has to be good for us to continuously come back. Mochi ice cream: yummers! They usualy have a bunch of flavors available too! hmm.. what else can i add? Lunch special comes w/ miso soup and a little dish of pickled cabbage and carrots. Beef sukiyaki was OK. Beef was a little tough but flavor was good. Tuna appetizer on crispy rice was good but not the best I've had. Rice could have been a little crispier. Fish is good. Curious to do sushi bar next time because all the sashimi was fresh. Another great find! Staff is very friendly. We had blue fin, spicy tuna with crispy rice, yellow tail and other favorites. My husband doesn't eat sushi so he had the chicken teriyaki which was also delicious. The tempura is good, but could be cut into thinner slices and cooked a little longer so the vegetables aren't too bulky to chew and do not taste underdone. They have high end delicious sake (that they do not allow you to take home if you don't finish ): lol) and it's a wonderful ambiance. If you're in the area, give it a try and do not complain about the prices because after all, it is sushi! We did not witness any loud noises from across the room. Food was excellent! We ordered the Omikase Fuji, which included 2 deliciously dressed, fresh oysters, sashimi and 12 pieces of sushi. We also had the Nigori sake - cold and yummy. The waitstaff however was pretty terrible. We waited 35 minutes after being greeted to have our order taken in a very slow evening. There was almost know follow up, checking in. The Sushi chefs are mostly Japanese and speak Japanese. This is one of the most authentic and cleanest Japanese sushi restaurants that I have been to. Everything is gorgeously prepared. These sushi chefs are always keeping everything tight and sealed. While observing I noticed this small quarter by quarter inch container that most would open for sprouts. Every time the chefs would open it they would close it, tightly. These small mannerisms just screamed high quality, not just of the food, but of the chefs themselves. I grew in excitement. I tried everything from their simple, fatty, and thick cuts of sashimi, to there both classic rainbow roll and crispy crunchroll, and even an oyster on half shell. To start their sashimi is clean and very clean tasting. The rice is not overly salty or starchy. And for those inexperienced sushi connoisseurs the secret to good sashimi is the thicker the cut the better the restaurant. It's simple logic, the more rice they give, the more money they save. Omino is more than generous but yet understands a good fatty slice of fish is the main attraction. I'd say a good fish to rice ratio would be 75%|25% give or take a few percent. The real star of my night was the oysters. I have never had a good oyster in my life. Apparently they are very difficult to prepare. Slightly over cooked = rubber, and not cleaned thoroughly = potential left over sand, sea taste, or even worse, a potent oyster taste. However, none of these came across when sniffing and finally shooting the oyster. It's taste was surprisingly refreshing, cold, and slightly citrusy. The desert, which I usually don't order, I figured everything was fantastic so far, why not try their version of green tea tempura ice cream. Not only do they give you a massive scoop of ice cream but they blanket the ball with little bread cake squares before they fry it. Now, I know the idea of frying to most is usually oily, heavy, and simply to much to top off the little belly space they have. The oil that Omino uses is ultra light and the particular cake they use does not absorb any of it. I highly recommend this sushi restaurant if you consider yourself a sushi connoisseur. And if you are not a regular sushi goer, then find an all you can eat somewhere or find a sushi joint that serves it on a belt and leave this place to the real fans. ;) read more
