Had a tough time reaching the strings and my instructor handed me one with a thinner, narrower neck and fret board and it made it so much easier. So, I came to Music Museum and told Matt my problem and he asked me about a price range i was looking at, then he took down 3 guitars immediately and said, try these. Perfect! The store owner has accumulated an incredible amount of amazing gear. If you're a musician, you need to check it out. More importantly, Jim does great set ups on all string instruments. Jim did a wonderful setup on my new SG. While the price was a little higher than average, the quality of his work was impeccable. Not only does my guitar play perfectly, I was able to drop it off and pick it up in the same day too. You'd be hard pressed to find a spot that does better work with a quicker turnaround time. Jim has some nice stuff, he is knowledgeable, maybe a little smug. The guitars are hung above your head and he chain-smokes in the store which is small and cramped with gear. So be prepared for some odor and nicotine film on your guitar. No price tags on the vintage and American made instruments. When asked he is about 20% plus higher than the Reverb price guide on just about everything. I've never had set-up work done there but he has a following of customers. I would only buy from him if I absolute could not find one elsewhere and had to have it. read more

it is defiantly a cool little shop with an overwhelming amount of guitars and gear. Its a treat to just look at the inventory and take a walk in time. Saying that I have delt with Jim for years..... Most of this gear has been there since I first went there in 2005. He is very knowledgeable and at times very cool and friendly. He has a ton of experience professionally with gear and in his playing. He is a great tech and would recommend him to fix anything you bring him. It's fun to pick his brain and see him work. However, there also has the other side of the business where it's almost amazing at how much merchandise he has in the store...loaded wall to wall with gear. It's unexplainable until you realize the buying experience you are about to embark on. It's almost like you are trying to convince him to sell something to you. Usually 15% higher than anywhere else... which is fine if the products weren't exposed to the elements of the environment. Smoke in the store along with amble dust from years of sitting. Most are traded in and with that comes questions to the amount of use and work these products have been through. The setups he puts on his guitars for sure can justify the extra 15% but most were set up on trade in and some of the guitars been there for decades. I have been thrown out of the store several times for attempting to negotiate as I have become too familiar with the workings of the retail section. If you are bringing something to trade it's old, lost its' value or not as desirable as the item you brought into discussion. And If you are buying something it's vintage and hard to find and worth that much more in being so. I respect small business and supporting the small mom and pop but I truly believe in this store you are buying from someone's collection....not a business. If you can go in with that mind set you can prepare yourself to make a purchase. Do your homework and make sure you do some inspections and test the gear. Some of the gear he has is nice and some of my guitars we swapped still hang on the ceiling untagged. I wish the best for this store and for Jim because in reality he is a cool dude, but I had to share my insights through my many experiences in this shop. read more

I've been dealing with Jimmy for 30 years Patrick L is full of crap. Anyone who is really on tour is very familiar with prices and values. If he paid too much, he was the problem. Also you're talking about a Classic snare, which you surely were not desperate for. You can't see and touch gear on the Internet. If a store has a rare piece, why should they discount it? Went in looking for a decent used small body acoustic to travel with. Very big selection for the size of place. New and used. They had three in my price range. I narrowed down to two, and both played great for brand new lower price models (under $500). I learned their shop luthier sets up every new guitar when it comes in. This is usually a $100 tack-on at most shops. I price checked online at the usual places, he was only about $30 higher on average (good deal for an already set up acoustic). I made my choice, restrung to a lighter gauge strings and they even adjusted the neck and lowered the action for me at no cost. Good, no nonsense service, good price for what you get. Smells like an ashtray! This place has gone downhill in the past few years. The clutter is unmanageable, and it is hard to walk in this store without tripping on something. Also, the prices are not posted on items as they should be. The biggest problem is the smell of cigarettes in the store. Guitars will absorb the smell and be contaminated by this and should never be subjected to that as the smell will never go away and tar could seal the pores of the wood. Not a good thing. read more

This guy took me for a ride. We were on tour from up north and he clearly saw it. Price tags aren't on much of the gear. I should have listened to my gut when I saw that. But i was desperate for a new cymbal. I also saw a classic snare there I was excited about. I asked the price and we talked a bit. He said $100 for the crash and he talked up the snare. But said he couldn't find much online and that they go for about $500 and up, but if i bought it then he'd charge me $350 for the snare. I had an odd feeling but I had falsely thought the cymbal was better than it was. He tacked on an extra $30 in tax too. I believe his exact words were "tax and stuff" I was too excited I found a small shop and before a gig too I thought nothing of it. All we have are Guitar Centers where I live. So I payed almost 500 for a snare and cymbal. From further investigation, the cymbal was an old Paiste 302 that have now just been market-replaced with the PST series it seems (the cheapest they make). MAYBE worth $50 new (it was used) he charged me $100. The snare was a vintage deep Premier, In great condition. But those go for around $150-$250 from my searching and that's in GREAT condition. Some depressing results come up with $80 or less. It's my own fault. But wow what a sheister. I thought the whole night, next day and all the way home I saved myself some serious cash. I guess it goes to show you I do not. Shame on me. But I will make sure everyone I know who travels to the vicinity this guy is a crook. He will take advantage of any suspecting ignorance. The internet is everywhere now. Look before you buy. read more

I seen some reviews on other sites that complained about the prices in the store. It's a mom and pop store that happens to be owned by a super knowledgeable owner and very skilled guitar luthier. He's setup several guitars for me, they played like totally different instruments when he got done with them. Pay a couple bucks more and get great service then and in the future, it's worth it. read more

It's a decent store, and I've had some competent guitar work done here. However, don't give me the whole "support the mom & pop store" thing when you're not open during your posted hours. Now I have to go to Old Town (also a mom & pop) for strings. read more

Really nice selection of vintage gear if you don't mind being insulted, treated like a burden if you wanna look at what they have for sale (which I would think is the whole point of having brick & mortar shop), and paying 3 times whatever the going rate is online.
