Living at Cadence for the last 14 months has been complete and utter hell, where my husband and I's…read morehealth and safety have been regularly compromised. In fact, our time at this building has been so traumatizing that we decided to completely leave the state.
Any good reviews you see on this building are ones from when residents first moved in (which management asked us to do). There are even reviews from employees that work at the building.
If you are a working professional who wants respectful neighbors and a quiet, smoke-free living space, run as far away as you possibly can from this place. On the other end, if you're looking to live in a place that doesn't enforce any rules written in the lease where you're free to do whatever you want, including not paying rent, this is your place. Cadence, and the Medical District in general, attracts the lowest of low class residents--including literal criminals and professional squatters, who we unfortunately had the displeasure of living next to for the entirety of our stay. There are even regular teen takeovers by nearby high schools right outside the building.
I'll start with the first of many problems. Our entire apartment (and often times the entire hall/lobby) CONSTANTLY reeks of weed. While Cadence writes in their lease that this is a smoke-free building, it's actually not. They do absolutely nothing about the constant weed smell that lives in units and throughout the entire building except send their pathetic email reminders that this is a "smoke-free" building. This management style is a trend for how every other issue is handled, including literal FELONS coming in and out of the building.
Next problem, partying and loud music. The building likes to say they have a 24/7 concierge service which is a flat out lie. The desk, at absolutely no fault of their own, has ZERO authority to do anything. We had neighbors who partied EVERY.SINGLE.NIGHT. to the point where our walls would literally shake us awake from their bass at 3 AM. We would call the desk to complain, and if the desk called them to ask them to keep it down, the neighbors would not listen. The neighbors quickly learned they could just not listen.... to anything... with absolutely no repercussions. Sure, the neighbors ended up getting evicted 5 months into resident complaints, but they didn't end up actually having to leave until February and even better, they didn't pay any rent from August-February. Even after the court ordered the eviction, the neighbors still refused to leave and even THEN, management REFUSED to enforce ANY rules they put in their own lease! Management still let them have guests come in and out as they pleased, they still let them throw parties every single night, they still let them smoke weed at all hours of the day.
We even had one woman at the desk be extremely rude to us when we called to complain and lie to us when she claimed they told the neighbors to quiet down. Management would then tell us to call the police, but since you live in Chicago where police literally won't respond if you get carjacked at gunpoint, police sure as hell aren't coming for noise complaints. We probably called the police 80+ times while living at Cadence, and they only came two times. Both times they said they couldn't do anything. So the desk can't enforce rules, the police won't come, and management refuses to do anything, leaving you completely screwed and on your own.
Never once did management offer any sort of solution during our time here. Any 'solutions' were proposed by ME, NONE of which were EVER given. They are completely and utterly useless, all while having a smug, fake attitude about it. They like to throw out a lot of threats to tenants who not only break rules written in their leases, but also commit serious crimes on the property, but they never actually do anything.
I'm out of space, but bottom line, for your sanity, safety, and security.... DO.NOT.LIVE.HERE! I CANNOT stress enough how awful this building is.
