One of my favorites is the bento box. It's such a solid deal. You get a roll, salad, soup, rice and your choice of protein, and it always fills you up. Can't go wrong with it. The restaurant was completely empty, but service was slow since the waitress seemed overwhelmed with takeout orders and phone calls. It took quite a while just to get water and place our order, even after asking the sushi chef (who was not happy to be asked). We ordered the cucumber salad, shrimp tempura, and soft shell crab to start. The cucumber salad was plain and lacked dressing, the tempura was decent, and the soft shell crab was tasty with a small side salad with sesame dressing that was actually the best part. For mains, we had two bento boxes -- one with chicken teriyaki and baked mussels, and the other with mackerel shioyaki and fried shrimp. The miso soup was solid, but the salad could've used more dressing. Overall, the food was okay, but the poor service really hurt the experience. They brought the kids meals 20 minutes after everyone else was fed. We constantly were asking for assistance. They did not take any dirty dishes away so we ended up stacking them on another nearby table. Teriyaki steak was so tough we had to send it back. Service was crappy. I've been coming to this restaurant for nearly 10 years and feel silly to realize I never bothered to give them my praises here on yelp. Came here on a weekday for lunch and were seated right away. Quick service, decently priced rolls, okay taste. We tried the baby octopus tempura, blue crab wrap, eel and cucumber roll (50% off), yellowtail belly, MuMu baked roll. Everything came out at a good pace. The tempura was really good - the second best thing I tried behind the yellowtail belly. The tempura was nice and crunchy, yet juicy on the inside. Dipping sauce was great. A bit too much batter for me, but there was still a good amount of octopus in there. That yellowtail belly was really smooth and tasty. It didn't need any additional dips or tastes. The blue crab wrap was a bit disappointing to me. The taste was very creamy, and despite the cucumber, there weren't a lot of textural differences. Likewise, I can see why the eel and cucumber roll is 50% off. It was pretty small and basic. The roll came out almost falling apart before it hit the table. The MuMu baked roll was unique. I've never had langostino before, and had to look it up. It's like a tiny lobster. Very interesting taste and texture. I can't eat too much of it, but it was pretty tasty. I'd recommend trying it. The fish tasted fresh (decent size) and not too much sushi rice which was also a plus. The toro nigiri types tasted a bit fishy, but not bad overall. It's very dark and moody which would make for a good casual date spot but I brought my kids here and they loved their sushi rolls and their kama fish here. The service was amazing and we came around 2:00pm so it wasn't busy and the service was fast. Parking is plentiful. It's in a large strip mall off Raymond and El toro, across the library and the post office. I ordered: - ankimo monkfish sushi - blue crab hand roll - chirashi plate The lady working the front is very friendly. There are other servers working who noticed me and didn't bother to greet me at all. I believe that any employee working the front should greet any potential customer, even if they're not able to help them right away. Some acknowledgement that somebody is gonna spend money on your establishment goes a long way. This place has been around for a long time. They have a presence and interior decoration set in stone. I do not love that they use the cheapest of packaging for their to go order. We are in 2024 now. You can pay extra for compostable and presentable packaging. It actually does go a long way. For food quality: None of the rice has that sweet vinegar taste. It's all steamed white rice with furikake. This restaurant is a Korean-Japanese restaurant. I think you could go the extra step and make sure the rice is good sushi quality rice and season it extra so it tastes more traditional. The fish is all good quality. I have severe mixed feelings about the blue crab hand roll and the chirashi. The hand roll is a behemoth size. But it's all steamed rice, that cheap fish eggs, blue crab, and furikake in a soy wrapper. Why is there SO much furikake?? I have never had furikake on rice with sushi. With poke, yes. The chirashi came with uni, which I was happy about. For $30, it better include some good options. It also included surf clam, roe, unagi. It seemed every big piece of fish came with that spicy marinated Wasabi sauce. It would have been better to have that on the side honestly. Not every fish tastes good with that sauce. There was not enough rice to eat with the fish. And it also came with spicy tuna, which really disheartened me, as perhaps personally? I think it's a cheap thing. read more

Let me start by saying that we had been regulars here until tonight. The sushi is decent. The garlic edamame is some of the best I've had. We walked in about 10 to six. We assumed we'd get our food quickly since the place was empty except for my family of five. Nope. We don't get our garlic edamame and shishito peppers until about 30 minutes after we ordered. One of my kids rolls arrived and I was trying to keep my other kids patient but after waiting for an hour, my two girls had already eaten their rolls! My wife, my son and I were still waiting for our food. Mind you, we only ordered 1 roll a piece. I finally asked our server to check on our food. He informed me that they had a problem in the kitchen and one of the employees had gone home. I asked him to speak to the manager. The lady that walked over was apologetic but did not say anything to us other than "so sorry" I was over it and asked them for my bill so I could pay and leave. 5 minutes later, the rest of our orders arrived. We didn't even enjoy it at that point. As I paid, the owner or manager again apologized. The whole time we were waiting for our food, we could see to go orders being made and sent out non stop. Sushi is one of my absolute favorites and when I'm craving it late in the evening there's not very many options as during the week days as they seem to close early. I found this sushi spot in lake forest as they close a bit later than the usual sushi spot. All in all the food was pretty good. Fish tasted fresh and their baked salmon roll was delicious. They were all tasty, but what surprised me the most was the most simple dish; the cucumber salad. It was so refreshing and tasty. The sauce was vinegar and a little lemon based and I could have ordered two more portions lol. My kids however plowed through California rolls like they were candy. Went here for the first time tonight. The food is excellent and the service is very good. We ordered the Musashi Boat. As expected, it is expensive. $149. But considering the amount of Nigiri you get, I think it's on par. It was very satisfying. We also had a Seafood Scallop appetizer, Agedashi tofu and Fried Calamari. The Calamari was just OK. Musashi Sushiya is the best japanese restaurant in the Lakr Forest area. Everything from the food quality and taste to the service. I've tried all types of dishes like the udon, beef/chicken teriyaki and even a full sushi platter. They also have the best deals from their lunch specials and the 50% OFF rolls.
