Came here for my grandmas 93rd birthday and was so disappointed. I wish we never came here. It will definitely be the l We had a reservation at 6:30pm and got our dinner is 8pm. They brought the kids meals 20 minutes after everyone else was fed. We constantly were asking for assistance. They did not take any dirty dishes away so we ended up stacking them on another nearby table. Teriyaki steak was so tough we had to send it back. Service was crappy. They do have a lot of options for food, but it isn't worth the frustration and bad experience.

Love this place! Been coming here for years and they are always so hospitable. The food is delicious, I've tried almost every roll and haven't had a single one I don't like! Highly recommend.

Great local sushi spot in lake forest. A big variety of options here to choose from bento plates, rolls and sashimi boats. Overall enjoyed our dining experience. Fairly priced too

Really great sushi place for kids or for a date! It's very dark and moody which would make for a good casual date spot but I brought my kids here and they loved their sushi rolls and their kama fish here. The service was amazing and we came around 2:00pm so it wasn't busy and the service was fast. I highly recommend their rolls and their shishito peppers the best peppers I've tried with just a pinch more salt it was perfect. I also recommend their Kama fried fish they cooked it to perfection and super soft! Would definitely come back

Have you reestablished the actual sushi bar, or is it still restaurant sit down?

Nope, they still have it as sit down.

Is there a Happy Hour or AYCE Special?

I'm not sure about Happy Hour, but I know that there is nor AYCE nor and AYCE special.

Is there a copy of the 50% off happy hour menu?

It's in the "menu" section of the pictures here on Yelp, the black and white paper.

Is this AYCE SUSHI? OR false listing as Happy Hour..?

It's not AYCE. The simpler rolls (California, spicy tuna, avocado, cucumber, etc) are super cheap though. Averaging about $3 a roll.

Do they still have the 50%off happy hour menu for all day?

yes they do (:

Are the California rolls gluten free?

Yes...

Off we went. Parking was easy in a large strip mall. No hostess here - you are greeted by the 2 sushi chefs upon walking in to sit wherever you'd like. The picture menu is easy to order off of. There are 2 big screens in the room. Tonight they were playing the World Baseball Classic. Women's restroom was clean - check! You get complimentary edamame upon being seated. Just 1 server handling all orders at the time we came in - a nice Korean lady, who at times seemed oblivious ie cleaning empty tables instead of giving us our check at the end of the meal when it was very apparent we were done. lol I looked for something on the menu that has unagi AND salmon but no dice so opted for dragon roll. My other half ordered #8 (forgot the name but it was good though I preferred my dragon roll more) but all in all our rolls came out delicious. Looking around, this place appears to be both a local spot and date spot from a few couples in the room. At the end of our meal our server brought us 2 pieces compliments of the chef, who said it was yellowtail. They have a stamp card that yields 10% after 5 meals and 20% off after 10 meals. We now know where we'll go after our weekly softball games!

FYI -- no photos because we were busy with a cranky toddler. First, the service was genuinely great. The sweetest lady helped us with the menu and served our food, and we really appreciated her kindness. We were also given complimentary edamame, which was thoughtful, although it was bland, dry, and cold -- almost like it had been sitting in the fridge for a while. Since it was complimentary, we didn't think too much of it. For the mains, we ordered the beef teriyaki and chicken teriyaki bento specials. Unfortunately, both proteins were sliced extremely thin. The chicken especially had a jerky-like texture, and both the chicken and beef lacked flavor. After reading other reviews, they had similar experience. The teriyaki sauce itself was also pretty bland. The tempura was okay, but the tempura dipping sauce tasted watered down and lacked the usual savory depth you'd expect. The one standout was the roll topped with salmon and avocado with spicy tuna inside. It was presented beautifully and tasted fresh and well-balanced. Based on this, I honestly think rolls are what they do best. I really hope they improve the preparation and seasoning of the chicken and beef because it was a major turnoff -- and this is coming from someone who eats pretty much everything. It's hard to justify paying around $22 for a bento when the main protein feels flavorless and insubstantial. With so many good Japanese resto in Lake Forest, I would skip this until the proteins are fixed.

I initially reached out about reserving a table for 40+ people during a basketball tournament weekend and was told the manager would contact me back. Sure enough, she called promptly to confirm everything for our Saturday dinner reservation. The entire process was seamless and incredibly easy, especially considering this was a larger-than-normal party. Taizy handled everything professionally. She seamlessly added the extra guests without hesitation. Her only request was that we send over everyone's food orders ahead of time so the kitchen could prepare and ensure nobody had to wait too long. And wow -- they absolutely delivered. Every single order came out accurately and in a very timely fashion. No mistakes, no confusion, and the service was impeccable from start to finish. The servers were organized, attentive, and handled a very large group with ease. Service was truly 10/10. One of the reasons I chose Kin Sushi for a large group dinner was because the menu truly has something for everyone -- udon, sushi rolls, vegetarian rolls, bento boxes, chirashi, sashimi, and something for everyone. They even had Thai iced tea, which isn't normally something in you have in a Japanese restaurant. Parking was very easy, which is always appreciated when coordinating a large party, and there's a restroom conveniently located in the back. I'm beyond grateful for how well they handled our group, and I would absolutely return here again for future team dinners or large gatherings. Highly recommend!

There was a bit of a wait, unfortunately, you're not able to RSVP. When we got there, we put our name on the list and about 20 minutes later, we were called to come in. They recommend that you leave any strollers outside since the dining area is so small. We had to do the spicy tuna on crispy rice. This is soooo delicious and I could seriously inhale these. We ordered so many rolls: sashimi rolls, cajun rolls, seared pepper salmon, baja yellowtail, tuna lover, aloha, and holy cow. My favorite roll was holy cow, hands down. The next would be the seared pepper and aloha rolls. Everything tasted so fresh and the service was very efficient. I can see why this place is pretty popular. I'd definitely go back for more of their rolls.

There's a definite "you'll get it when you get it" vibe, and it's not a pleasant one. To be fair, the food is good. But the service? Frustrating, disorganized, and honestly off-putting. Expect long waits--even for takeout--and don't count on a smooth or welcoming experience. If you go in knowing that, you might leave less annoyed than most of the patrons I saw while waiting.

That said, I'm not complaining: as a sushi spot in America that caters to Western tastes, this place hits. Some of my favorite rolls are the Bella, the Mission Viejo, and the Seared Tuna roll. One minor area for improvement is to-go orders. They seem to get very busy, and there could be better predictability around wait times. The order processing for peak hours (6pm on a Saturday) was about an hour, but on my most recent visit, my pickup order was delayed by about 30 minutes, pushing it to 90 minutes. It was frustrating for me, but I think it can be even more frustrating for Door Dash drivers since they're paid per delivery and long, unexpected waits can throw off their entire queue and earnings for the night. I do want to commend their customer service, though. They have always been great dining in, but this time, they could tell people were frustrated and genuinely tried to reshuffle orders and adjust priorities. Overall, improving order flow and wait-time forecasting would make a noticeable difference!

My experience and meal was five star!…read moreThough, keep in mind that my five stars is based on dining here only once and not at peak hours. We arrived just after noon on a weekday. The restaurant wasn't busy and we were seated right away. The vibe inside was authentic feeling Japanese style, smallish with several tables and sushi bar seating. My chicken oyakodon was a bowl of cozy comfort to me. It was topped with two slices of yellow pickled daikon. I'm sure it was homemade daikon, not like what you get in a jar from Tokyo Central. We were served their delicious miso soup as a starter. My sister ordered beef teriyaki and tempura. She said it was good. The restaurant started filling up as we ate our meal. A good sign of good authentic Japanese is when you see a lot of Japanese/Asians filling up the place, especially older people (haha, like me), because you know they know well prepared authentic. And that's the crowd that was coming in. Located in a busy center with limited parking, it must get crazy busy later in the evening because the sign outside the entrance says where to form the line.
