I recently needed some new sunglasses and was really looking for some nice but basic Raybans. I…read moretried ordering some via Amazon but...none of the pairs worked for me when I tried them on. So then I thought ....'it might be best if I could find an actual store where I could try some sunglasses on.' But, the only places I knew of were like these boutique eyeglass shops where all their sunglasses are 'designer', with the pricetag to match. Surely, I thought, there must be some sunglass shops?? So I came to trusty Yelp, and....I saw some good reviews for this shop. "Sunglass Hut?? Isn't that like a chain store... a place typically found in malls, and where young suburbanites who like to dress in Abercrombie buy their sunglasses??" lol Despite my misgivings, I decided to give it a try. Can I just say....what a great experience it was!! The staff were terrific. Selection was great. I ended up buying two pair of glasses, and getting a discount in the process after signing up for a Sunglass Hut credit card. Mind you, I was initially VERY hesitant and suspicious about the credit card offer. I was thinking it was a scam...some type of a trick...that they'd be sending me all kinds of junk mail etc. I was assured that there was no gimmick. All I had to do was sign up for the card, and I'd receive an immediate discount on the two pair of glasses I wanted to buy. I could then pay off the card immediately if I wanted, and even cancel it afterwards. (I think what SH probably hopes for is that many customers will only pay the minimum balance each month and then rack up interest fees. That's probably how they offset the discount you get when you first sign up for the card. But for me, it was not an issue, as I knew that I'd immediately pay off the balance in full...) Net, net, I had a certain 'image' in my mind of the Sunglass Hut chain, but at least as far as this Times Square location went, it was a great experience. I should also add....even in the heart of Times Square there was just a handful of customers in there. So no having to deal with pesky tourists. ;-)

But I went there for their glasses as they have many different styles and the price point is great too. I went a few times and the service was good, but it could've been better.

My ophthalmologist naturally wanted me to buy a good pair and suggested Purdy's on Madison Avenue. Knowing how expensive this store was considering they can make a pair in one day I decided to see other places. Sunglass Hut's prices started at $175. Then Laura insisted I go to Saks Off Fifth where I nearly fainted when the salesperson said that sunglasses started at $250. Warby Parker to the rescue. Located inside Grand Central Station, this store is conveniently located as one comes up on the escalator. Carla, a salesperson, helped check which pairs were polarized as many were not. Finally I found one named Sydney Brioche Tortoise with tortoise shell frames which looked attractive. Solomon tightened it for me. The return policy is thirty days with a full refund. This store is bright and all the offerings are nicely displayed.
