I told her I had this grocery stores in Lubbock, TX, bookmarked and we could just pick up some cookies and a cake or something for her sister who had her final 6th grade band concert later that night. She obliged. We were visiting from a small town and were blown away by this place. It was incredibly clean. All of the employees were smiling and busy. The produce section was immaculate. We were getting short on time so we didn't get to go to many sections, but the flower shop was great. I'm not vegan but my sister-in-law is and she would love this place. There were tons of options. We walked away hysterically with just over 1 lb. of "scratch M&M cookies" (20-ct for $5.99) and a super cute 5-inch chocolate cake ($14.99). Busy place. Through that is another strange hallway-like area with three doors, one of which is for the bathroom. It's nothing fancy, a bit run-down, but it's also in the middle of nowhere and it's functional, so I was grateful. My favorite part of the store was the bin of hammers and sledgehammers for sale.

So I walked to the dollar store down the street and used their bathroom, they had a shelf full of bleach so I bought a gallon to give to the truck stop... When I went back in today to brush my teeth, the sign was still on the door. When I asked the guy working the counter he gave me the same excuse as the previous night, after informing him I am the one who bought them bleach, he later changed his story and said it's closed to customers because they are afraid the customers will get them sick? As a truck stop I can't believe they would do this to their customers? I will never come back here!!!!

It was smaller and the deli was not as good. However, the sushi was a lot better. The store did seem darker and less open than the other one, but it still had lots of good foods and even some better items. Their wine and beer selection looked more complete. They also had live lobsters and a nice meat counter with different pre-assembled meat dishes, e.g. beef and feta cheese pinwheels, peppered ribeye steak, apple stuffed chicken or turkey for roasting, etc (the 50th street has a large seafood section but no meat counter). At the 50th street one there is hardly ever any bargain/thrift food, possibly because it is busier, but at this one they had bread and all kinds of meat. I like buying the sale stuff because you can save a lot and have something tasty to put on the grill. The location is pretty far off the Loop, and there was a lot of construction in the immediate area when I went by which was a pain, plus I nearly got rearended by a driver in a big white van not paying attention on the way there (after she almost hit a red Mercury sedan too!). I will probably return in the future to the 50th street location, but this one is not bad! And as I said, the sushi was much more delicious at this location (the 50th street piles on the wasabi and has more boring selection).
