We decided to look for recommendations in my neighborhood mom's group and follow up those by referencing Yelp reco's. Decided to call Speake's Plumbing and so glad we did! We called on a Thursday afternoon and left a message and received an immediate call back. They said someone could come out the following day. Speake's was excellent about communicating and we opted in to receive text messages. They let us know that someone would come by between 10-2 on Friday. And they did! Enter Mike on Friday afternoon around 1:30! We showed him our bathroom and he could smell the sewer gas too! We had kept the door closed to keep fumes down to the rest of the house. Also opened a window. After he removed the toilet and scraped off the wax he found the real problem. He came to show us what he discovered. There was a gap between where the flange and the drain pipe meet. Mike fixed the pipe and replaced the flange with a new beautiful brass one. This is the only pic I took. We love our Toto toilets and asked Mike to replace the insides with a new flush valve kit since the current one looked really old. He replaced the toilet and cleaned everything up. We paid and he sent our receipt via email. The price seemed in-line and we were very happy with Mike and the service he provided. We will definitely call Speake's Plumbing again if a plumbing issue arises.

Six pretty good sized men showing up at one woman's house is definitely overkill. Six men showing up at your house would be scary to some women!!! It's surely NOT wise!!! Some of these guys could have sat in one of their trucks instead of just standing around. Anyway, 2 of the fellas - evidently worker bees - went under my house while everyone else stood around. They looked around, & saw the how the previous plumber had blocked my access to the rest of the plumbing & came out to tell their bosses. They told the Main Boss how all my plumbing was PVC pipe. He made it very plain that he wasn't pleased to hear that. He said that he doesn't like working with PVC. Maybe he doesn't do drain lines. I explained to him that I needed that one drainage line moved (rerouted,) so that it didn't block my path & I wanted the water lines wrapped for the Winter, so they wouldn't freeze. I don't think I told them that I needed the drainage lines strapped up which is another thing the previous plumber failed to do. Anyway, they didn't want to dig under the line that was blocking the access to see the rest of the plumbing behind it, so they really couldn't give me a real estimate, but the head guy said they'd do the work. I wasn't impressed! I don't do half or maybe estimates, or just hire folks NOT knowing what all is involved & how much money I am going to spend!!! So, no thank you, K&K!!!

Our most recent experience completely broke our trust. During our winter maintenance visit, the first technician said our furnace had a cracked heat exchanger and needed to be replaced. Concerned, I asked for a second tech. He confirmed "cracks," said the inducer motor was failing, and recommended an $8,000 furnace replacement. When I asked about warranty coverage, he repeatedly insisted the equipment wasn't under warranty because it likely wasn't registered when we moved in seven years ago. He also pushed replacing our AC due to upcoming refrigerant changes (R‑410A), quoting $20-25K for both systems. Feeling unsure, I agreed to the furnace replacement and paid half upfront. Still uneasy, I checked the manufacturer's warranty myself. Within minutes, I confirmed the furnace was under warranty, 40 years on the heat exchanger and 10 years on the inducer motor. I called Classic to cancel and get a refund. It took two calls before a manager responded. He processed the cancellation but offered no apology or acknowledgment. To verify the furnace's condition, I brought in another reputable HVAC company. Their tech explained the supposed "crack" was actually a scratch, smooth not structural and the inducer motor noise was likely from slight imbalance. Neither issue required immediate replacement. He also noted their techs are paid hourly, not on commission. I can't say whether Classic's technicians work on commission, but I felt there was a strong incentive to upsell expensive replacements we didn't need (conflict of interest). I canceled our subscription with Classic and explained why, but no one followed up. I'm sharing this so others don't end up in the same situation. Always get a second opinion and check your equipment warranty, it can save you thousands.
