Dallas Plumbing used the impending storm as leverage to quote an "outrageous" $6,200 for a 4-foot long, 2-foot deep excavation. When I balked, the technician, Travis, tried to upsell an $11,000 full-pipe replacement we didn't need. Under duress, we settled for a "reduced" $3,500 repair (still outrageous! but there was no time to shop around). The experience only got worse: Lack of Transparency: Travis had me sign a digital pad but withheld the written scope of work until after the job was done and a $1,000 deposit was paid. Property Damage: Their excavation caused a second leak in a nearby pipe that was attached to the sprinkler's old backflow valve. The "Backflow" valve: When I asked them to fix the new leak damage they caused due to the excavation work, their supervisor warned he might "accidentally" break my old backflow valve--and quoted $2,500 to replace it. I sent him away and hired my own specialist, who fixed their mistake and replaced the leak and backflow valve for just $675 (including the inspection). Dallas Plumbing attempted to price-gouge me for nearly 4x the market rate. Management has ignored my letters requesting reimbursement for the secondary $675 repairs that I was forced into. They prioritize one-time profits over customer safety and ethics. Avoid at all costs.

On day of appointment, they phoned 30 minutes late, and said they couldn't make the appointment. But they could quote me over the phone, without seeing anything. They quoted twice amount of competitors. I wouldn't trust anything they say now, credibility is damaged. If you can't trust them for the smaller job, why would you trust them with bigger job?

After contacting several plumbers, Mother Modern Plumbing stood out for their attentiveness, honest commentary and straight up, fair pricing. I ended up booking the $299 drain clean special which came with a warranty and I'm so glad I did. I booked and received a confirmation call and email. The day of the service, I received a text with bio of the plumber that would be servicing my home. Adan Diaz showed up and he was fantastic! He was pleasant and knowledgeable. Not only did he solve the problem but he gave pointers on what to look for and other homeowner misses that can ultimately end up causing thousands if dollars if not addressed. He didn't try to upsell or force. He came, did his job and educated. If I need a plumber in the future. I'll fit sure call Mother!

Months later, I was charged $410 for refrigerant and a leaking Schrader valve that I believe should have been identified during an earlier maintenance visit. When I questioned the diagnosis and requested documentation, I received explanations that did not satisfactorily address my concerns. What troubled me most was not the service charge itself--it was how the company handled the dispute. After I raised concerns and discussed filing complaints with consumer and regulatory agencies, General Manager Alan Dean offered to refund the full $410, but only if I agreed not to post negative reviews, not to pursue complaints with the BBB, not to pursue complaints with TDLR, and not to share negative information publicly. I declined because I was unwilling to give up my rights as a consumer in exchange for a refund. The refund was never issued. Whether you agree with my technical concerns or not, I believe a company's character is revealed by how it responds when a customer questions its work. In my case, I experienced defensiveness, a refusal to accept any responsibility, and an attempt to tie a refund to my silence. I can no longer recommend A-Star Heating & Air. If you are considering doing business with this company, I encourage you to ask detailed questions, request documentation, keep thorough records, and carefully evaluate whether their customer service standards align with your expectations. Trust takes years to build and only one experience to lose.
