Amazing experience at Mur Mur. The staff was all very attentive and the food was amazing. The decor is very cute, especially around the bar. We had the pork dishes and the octopus. All were delicious. The tortillas that came with the pork were some of the best I've ever had. I highly recommend this place.

Mur Mur, the Tulum stronghold for Baja's Diego Hernandez Baquedano of World's Best fame, is worth a visit. Their cocktails are fun, and the ambiance is great. We enjoyed sipping the Mur Mur and the La Flor, one is fruity and refreshing, the other a peppery smoke. Starting with a Scallop Ceviche, I am happily impressed. The scallops are tender, and they go well with ripe mango and heirloom tomato. The server tells us that Yucatan Pork is the best in the world. Their pigs have more flavor, and in this dish, I believe it's true. There is a semi-sweet tomato-pumpkin sauce, an ancient Mayan recipe that is good enough to drink! The Catch of the Day is a buttery grouper, and I love how everything on this plate is so scorched. Who knew ash could taste so good? The Roasted Plantain ends our dinner adventure, a banana-boat of chaya syrup on sour cream. Not at all sweet, but delightfully earthy. Hartwood is overrated. Mur Mur is more than match for Tulum's most overrated restaurant, and I dare say their dishes are superior in both creativity and complexity. Highly recommend - I'm a fan!

One of my favorite places on our trip! The bar has swings so that's what attracted us to this place. Bar tender was great and the drinks were muy bueno. Open fire on the side, nestled in a busy part of town, this is a great stop for dinner it for drinks. For Dinner... Pork: must get! The skin was so crisp, the fat was so velvety and the pumpkin purée was so flavorful! Octopus: can't go wrong, cooked well Potatoes: this was more basic of the dishes and is better as a shareable plate than a stand-alone entree So we asked for a habanero, which I recommend at any restaurant in Tulum. This was one of the best, it was charred and so spicy. Comes with a warning from the waiter. --- On another night, hostess was very helpful when we had questions on where the cash exchange place was. Great staff!

Great food, cocktails and vibe! Swing and enjoy one of the inspired and unique cocktails. You'll like start to smell the wood burning grill and get hungry. We did and wasn't disappointed. Shared roasted beets with peanuts and a yummy cilantro sauce. Then the Yucatán pig....so much flavor with each home made corn tortillas bite. Lastly, say yes to the delish fudge dessert. Say "hello" to Laura and Armando both fantastic!

Going down to Tulum, the place you hear about most is Hartwood. How fantastic it is and you have to reserve a month ahead just to go. So you better book it because it will be the highlight of your trip... Yea I heard it all. And truthfully I had Hartwood a day after I had Mur Mur. And I can say that Mur Mur ruined Hartwood for me. Mur Mur was BETTER, in every way. Im glad I did heavy research of which places to go OTHER then Heartwood in Tulum. First I can say that the food was crazy good. Like top notch high level good. The depth of the flavors and how extremely well it was presented and cooked was insane. I first ordered the starter of Potatoes with Chorizo and Sour Cream. I forget what it was called exactly not he menu. But it might have been the best potatoes I've ever had. No joke. The richness of the flavors that were presented was phenomenal. For example. They put a couple of onions inside the dish. But the onions had a different flavor. So very different that you could taste the difference in your mouth while eating everything together. But it went with the dish and was perfect. I was seriously thinking about ordering another plate of that!!!! Next was the main corses. We got the Octopus and the Pork Belly. Both were outstanding. It was the best octopus I've ever had. It was cooked to perfection and was super tender and not chewy at all, like a lot of places make it. Then the skin or suction cups were crispy and flavorful. The sauce was perfect and balanced out the dish. Nothing to complain about with this. Now to the Pork Belly. This is what I would recommend to anyone that goes here. If they have this on the menu, YOU HAVE TO TRY. The pork itself was so tender it LITERALLY melted in my mouth. When I say literally I mean literally it fell apart in my mouth. Not trying to hype this, but I want to give an actual representation for what happened. And the top of it was crispy like pork belly should be. I have no idea how they managed to do this. But its something that I have never experienced before. I would give this 10 out of 5. No joke. The drinks were amazing as well. I wanted to include them in this review to give them their credit. People normally say drinks are good when they are just alright. But these were incredible. The atmosphere was so nice. But you will notice in Tulum that everywhere has a great atmosphere and vibe. But Mur Mur has to be one of the best. When you walk up to Mur Mur and walk in, you know that you are in luxury. This place was the definition of cool, chill, elegant and extravagant all in one. Everything from the lighting, to the table setup to the Kitchen you can see into from your seat. Everything was perfect. The service was great. We were seen to our needs often. Even though the waiter could not speak too much English, he was still nice and was super helpful. I know that it sounds like I'm trying to hype this place up. But in my opinion this is the Hartwood killer. So much that I'm debating on giving Hartwood a 4, because I had it the day after Mur Mur, and Mur Mur set the bar so high that Hartwood could not reach it. This place is a MUST go to if you are in town. And we made reservations the day before and got seated quickly when we got there. Hartwood we had to wait 30 minute past our reservation time. 5/5 easy.

The road to travel to this hidden gem will make you upset.. pls pack a snack and prepare for a 1.5-2 hr drive in a car. But don't give up the mind blowing experience and tasty goodness awaits you. Started at 330 with 2 small tacos and another starter that caused us to return at 6 for dinner. The quality of the food and flavors has been the best I've had in Tulum my entire 2 week trip. And that means alot because there's delectable food everywhere in Tulum. Service was super attentive. Explanations of every meal choice were music to my ears and palette. So reasonable for the high quality of food and service. And they take cards! Try a hand crafted cocktail and don't skip on the dessert option. We had the brownie (beautiful) missed taking a pic sorry. Chicken entree and Short Ribs were both superb!

Excellent in a nutshell. Beautiful setting with a mix of covered and open air seating blended with local shops. The staff was over the top helpful and took care of everything needed with pleasure. The dinner was simply amazing. The skin-on roasted chicken was succulent and served with a smokey chili sauce that put it over the top. The small side of brussel sprouts was disappointing only in its size. The Yucatán pork belly came highly recommended and did not disappoint. Tender and juicy with flavors that came alive when the puree, corn and chard were all combined with the pork. The lamb was cooked perfectly and had excellent flavor. We missed the octopus, which is apparently the hands down favorite of the friendly kitchen team. The roasted squash was a little bland but the seasonal vegetables that accompanied the dish were exceptional. All in all a truly memorable dinning experience.

How is this place not packed with people every night???!! I guess that's a cool thing since it's still a bit of a hidden gem (at lease for now). We are in Tulum for a week and have so far gone to Nu and Arca. So far, Mur Mur has been top of the list. The ambience was amazing but similar to other restaurants in the area (most go for this outdoor candlelight setting with rustic but chic vibe). The cocktails are some of the best we have had in the area. The Luna cocktail was delicious and my favorite (a combination of bourbon, Campari, fresh guava juice, shaken over ice with mint and strained in an old fashioned glass over ice). Keep in mind that boozy cocktails are needed here due to the heat and humidity. I honestly think a well made tiki bar (like smugglers cove from San Fran) would kill it here. The food... Well this was the show stopper. All is made in their wood fire pit. My wife has the catch of the day with wood fire grilled eggplant purée and I had the short rib. The short rib is braised over 24 hours in a stock that has been kept for 6 years. They continue to use the same active stock, reduce then use again and again. The result was one of the best short ribs I have ever had. The staff was very friendly and after dinner we sat at the bar tasting some of their mezclas. I highly recommend this place for a great dinner!

This was an experience like no other! 10/10 recommend. We got the octopus skewers in their pipian sauce which was the perfect pairing. We also had the catch of the day that was wrapped as well as the pork that was covered with clay. The waiter prepared everything for us and made each meal that came out super enjoyable! The drinks also are amazing and so are the vibes! Would come back :)

This is worth it! I would def recommend this place over Hartwood - I have another review under Hartwood. TBH, the ambiance is not as fancy as other IG worthy spots in this area, BUT, we didn't come for the ambiance we came for the food. And lucky us, on the night of our visit, Elizabeth Fraser was the chef. Four of us ordered pretty much most of the items on the menu and they didn't disappoint. Highly recommend the flatbread and Snapper Ceviche.

We were not able to be seated at Hartwood, so walked in Mur Mur by chance, and it turned out to be a really nice experience. Hungry as cows, we decided to share some small plates, as well as some dishes. Recommendations: tomato salad, free catch of the day; Dislikes: ribeye (which turned out to be sirloin), lamb. I would suggest coming with a large party so can sample a couple of plates. Great ambiance too - can seat either at the regular table or sofa.

This was our favorite restaurant in Tulum. The ambiance and food were great but the staff were the ones who made the experience worth remembering. They made great recommendations, were personable, detail oriented and told us about every dish as if they were passionate about what their team had created. As a vegetarian I had the tomato salad and squash. Both of these dishes had elements outside my comfort zone but I was pleasantly surprised. I'm not normally a huge fan of tomato's but the tomato salad was absolutely delicious with pumpkin seeds, garlic and a lemongrass vinaigrette. The squash came with mezcal infused raisins which were outstanding. My partner had the potato appetizer which had a chorizo "dust" that she said tasted great without the normal heaviness of chorizo. She also had the pork which was cooked perfectly. We will definitely be going back to MurMur our next trip to Tulum.

Three stars for really fresh and delicious cocktails, friendly service, and an inventive menu. Mur Mur is a charming upstart of a restaurant right next to Hartwood, but without the wait and fame. Unfortunately, I got a case of food poisoning most likely from the fresh green salad. Montezuma's revenge is always a possibility in Mexico, and it wasn't the worst, but did sour my taste for Mur Mur un poco. My saladless husband fared much better than I did, and really enjoyed his meal, saying the fish was really fresh. I also enjoyed my pork dish with local Yucatan ingredients. The drinks were amazing and the bartender really took pride in his down home mixology with all kinds of exotic fruit purees and tinctures. Had I not been sidelined for a day by the lettuce, I'd be more of a fan. It's a pretty slow operation as well, but in Tulum you shouldn't be in a hurry anyways. Next time in Tulum I would happily sip on a cocktail in their charming jungle side hut.

Swinging and dinner. It's like being in an Anthropologie store
