Each meal comes with yellow rice and two sides. You can upgrade to a creamy veggie rice for $4. I stuck with the original and got sweet potato yams and mac and cheese for my sides. I was told that my order would take 45 minutes and that they would call me when it was ready. About 10 minutes later, I got a call stating that they ran out of yams and what other side I'd like to choose. I got the greens. I was called about 45 minutes later (so the food took right at 1 hour) and told my order was ready. As expected from the outside, the inside is not the nicest. It's called a lounge and there does seem to be a bar, a few tables, and a small sitting area, but no one was dining in. It's pretty outdated and I couldn't imagine eating or having a drink there. The cashier (same person on the phone) was very sweet. My order came to $30. She opened the box and showed me my meal before wrapping it up and I was on my way. Truly, the food was excellent. The salmon tenders were sooo crispy and perfectly fried on the outside while still juicy inside. I got them seasoned with honey lemon pepper. You could tell that the batter was also seasoned along with the salmon. There were 5 pieces so it's a pretty big portion. I also really enjoyed the mac n cheese. It was super cheesy and well seasoned. The rice was good as well. While I did like the greens, there was sooo much meat in it that it made them overall kind of salty. Maybe I got the end of the pot, but it was really more meat than greens. I'm happy to know that this is a good option for soul food takeout if ever I am craving soul food and don't mind spending $$$$. I really want to try the candied yams

Emile pointed without saying a word as she wrote the specials on the board. No greeting, just a point. Being in the industry myself, I didn't like that. She had a frown on her face, and honestly, the energy was off. I placed my order but stood up--I didn't want to sit after being pointed at like that. Nawal noticed and kindly asked me to sit down. He was so nice, and we started talking. While we chatted, I asked Emile for water. She said, "Excuse me?" I repeated, "Ice water." She brought it over and spilled some, then handed it to me anyway. I thought, "Damn, they just opened--who made her mad already?" But here's the thing: I said to myself, "I don't care how mad she is, I'm about to make her talk because this is what I do." So we got to talking, and she actually opened up and told me what was wrong. And you know what? She ended up being a sweetheart. As we talked, she smiled more and more. The whole vibe shifted. The food? Absolutely great. Here's what I learned from being in the industry: Never bring your problems with you. Smile even if it hurts, because you want people to return and feel welcomed. But I also learned something else today--you never know what someone is going through. Be patient. Talk if you can. Listen. I could have easily walked out and never come back.
