Muna has a great Indian lunch special. You get two entries and a choice of rice or naan for $16. The only catch is that to get the lunch special, you have to get takeout only. The service was nice while we waited. They let us inside and gave us water to drink. I got the tikka masala and the butter paneer with rice. Everything was pretty good for the value. Tip, ask for the napkins if you get the takeout because they are not in the bag. read more

Came here after the Field of Lights. For a cold wintry day, Muna hit the spot with its warm setting. Service was great and hospitable. We ordered several plates and garlic naan. Garlic naan was delicious. As for plates, much of our food was grilled and were a rice dish. It was tasty but alas - we regret not ordering any curries. Absolutely incredible new place in midtown East! We tried the steamed lamb momos, chili chicken momos, and lamb biryani. The momos were juicy and came with both a peanut and spicy chili sauce. We usually go to Jackson Heights to get our momo fix but I think we found a new hit. Lamb biryani was incredibly flavorful with super tender meat. Highly, highly recommend. Came here for (late, ~2:00 pm) lunch on a Wednesday and it was almost completely empty. The restaurant was very large, with 2 floors and seating for large groups, but I think I saw only 2 people there at the time I went. After we were seated they gave us a free fried cracker type dish with 2 sauces (Papadums? not sure). It was good, and they brought more when we finished the first basket. I got the Lamb Vindaloo and Chicken Tikka Masala with rice lunch special. Both were very good and tasty, and the Chicken Tikka Masala was almost overflowing. I was stuffed afterwards, and it could pretty easily have been split into 2 meals. Seems like this place is new but they're definately making a good impression. Although I haven't eating much Indian food before and aren't used to the flavors, I could definitely see myself making this place a routine lunch spot. read more

Visited Muna for the 2nd time earlier this week. First and foremost, the food is excellent - all of the dishes hit the mark, starting with the veggie samosas and rounding it off with 3 different curries (my favorite being the chicken korma). Very happy with the different flavors and spices. However, the service and general atmosphere left a lot to be desired. Even though we were one of only a few groups dining, the food took a long time to come out and we had an item wrongly ordered. Muna was gracious enough to comp us for that item, but overall the service detracted from the experience. This could be an amazing dining experience if they can iron out service issues. read more

Muna is an excellent Indian/Nepalese restaurant with amazing food. They also have a lunch buffet Monday thru Friday only. We sat upstairs where it was quieter and more spacious and ordered a la carte. The Palak Paneer, Veg Biryani, yellow Dahl, and Malai Kofta was all delicious. The hostess was very welcoming and they made my food exactly to my specifications with all my allergies and special requests. There is two floors for seating. The buffet is on the first floor. By far my favorite "Indian" in the area. After trying a few Indian spots around Grand Central, Muna immediately stood out. Firstly, the quality of chicken is one to two levels above others. Second, the naan is not an afterthought but is actually really good, it's airy and not burnt. Their rice comes with cumin seeds and has a delicate flavor. The samosa actually seems baked and is not oily. One note is that their baseline is not spicy (subjective, yes), so I typically ask to add a little heat. I randomly tried this place for lunch as it is close to my office and it's what an excellent find! The lunch special is awesome and a great value... you can choose two different dishes and rice or naan. I loved the chicken tikka masala and saag paneer, but mushroom dish wasn't my favorite. The restaurant was smaller than I expected, but the food was outstanding. They do a robust take out business and I can see why. I tried several dishes and took leftovers back. We came in on a Wednesday and though the restaurant was half empty, there was a steady stream of diners coming in.   This is a great spot for lunch located between Lex & 3rd on 46th Street. There is a nice selection of popular dishes for the $15.95 lunch special. Portion sizes are pretty good from our observation of other diners who partook. Most everyone had to request for a take-away bag.  It's such a great value and we will have to partake next time. Instead, we opted to order other items on the menu. We got Tandoori Chicken Tikka, Chicken Masala (there is a lunch special version btw), cilantro naan, garlic naan, jasmine rice, vegetable samosas, Mango Lassi, and rice pudding for dessert.  With tip, the entire meal came out to $82 and we were not disappointed in the least. My favorite place to get them is in London U.K. at this hole in the wall news stand (you read that right) in Piccadilly Circus. But I've always found them greasy...no matter where I've gone to get them--even in Jackson Heights, NY.  I end up using lots of napkins lol.  But HERE?  I was taken aback because they were NOT. Like, AT ALL.  My first thought was if it was overcooked? It was darker colored than what I'm used to.  Still it tasted great and the outer shell was flaky and crispy. The filling was deliciously spicy.  I would totally order it again. I need some yogurt on the side though because -- SPICY. Everything is FRESH, FRESH, FRESH!  I highly doubt any of the food is sitting under heat lamps or in chafing dishes in the kitchen waiting to be served. I had to wait 15 minutes for my tandoori chicken tikka because, to be properly served, it must be cooked in the clay oven and that takes time (as the server explained to me after I ordered it).  We really enjoyed every bite of our meal. My favorite thing to do is dip the naan bread into the masala gravy.  Yum. Yum. Yum. The Service was exceptional.  Our water cups were never empty and the staff was happy to stop and explain things or just to chat for a bit.  They care about your allergies and will ask about it as you are ordering.   There is a party room available upstairs that can hold up to 75 people.  It's free to use with your catering order. If you cancel on them at the last minute, you will be charged a fee for having had them hold the room for you. There is a lot of seating for Twos and and a few tables for bigger parties.  The two well kept restrooms are located in the back of the main floor just after the bar and the staircase that goes up to the party room. The decor is quaint. Check out the pictures I took to see for yourself.   They have a sister restaurant called Sathi which is located in Gramercy. It's on our list to try. Bottomline here?  This is a GEM FIND in the middle of Midtown Manhattan.   Go.  You will not regret it.  The value is phenomenal! read more

My husband and I stopped in for dinner on a Thursday night. We were there around 8 p.m. and they were able to seat us right away. The wait staff were very attentive and kind. We were very pleased with the service. It is a small intimate setting with white linens on the table. It's a great spot for a date night, or just dinner with family or friends. I ordered the chicken tikka masala and my husband had the chicken vindaloo. We were both really pleased with our meals. Great Food and Friendly Service! Initially came for their lunch special, but was told that they were offering a lunch buffet which was $20 a person. The restaurant had a few customers, but was pretty empty the entire time we were there. As soon as you are seated you can pick from many vegetarian options, as well as chicken tikka, chicken saag, and lamb curry. In addition, fresh naan bread was available at no additional cost. Despite being a buffet style, all the food tasted super fresh, and was honestly some of the better Indian food I have had in nyc! Particularly enjoyed the chicken tikka, lamb curry, and Chana masala. I had such a great dinner here on a quiet Tuesday night. I discovered it just by proximity and Yelp after arriving in the city for a quick business trip.
