I can't say enough great things about Axel and his company Mulch and Landscaping Design! From start to finish, the experience was smooth, professional, and honestly just enjoyable. Axel came over, really listened to what I needed, and sent me a very reasonable estimate the next day. I had a few other quotes, but Axel's upbeat personality, fair price, honesty, and helpful attitude made the choice easy. He explained everything so clearly and even gave me creative ideas to stay within my budget, which I really appreciated! He sent photos of different gravel and mulch options, and even put together a mock-up so I could actually see what the space would look like. That attention to detail meant a lot. Unlike some others I met with, he never tried to upsell or pressure me, just real, honest help. My whole backyard was a mess, but Axel and his crew turned it into something beautiful. They added a section of grass that my pups are absolutely thrilled with, and he did such thoughtful planting throughout the space. The team showed up on time, worked so hard, and were respectful of our home the entire time. They made sure everything was just right. Axel really went above and beyond. I'm so happy with the results and would 100% recommend him to anyone looking to improve their yard! PS: Just an FYI - - Axel also did an incredible job evening out our 40-year-old brick patio and squaring it off beautifully. It looks so much better now! That said, any bricks you might notice that are still a little uneven were already that way before, it's an old patio with some character. Axel worked with what was there and truly brought new life to it. read more

Axel is the man, him and his worker, spent a day and a half redoing my planters and redid my front yard with decomposed granite. They worked fast and cleaned up after themselves. Once I pick out some drought tolerant plants I'll be reaching out again to have him help me plant them. Highly recommend his services as he was prompt and was easy to communicate with. read more

Needed to create a rockscape to cover most of the backyard for a relatively maintenance and bug free backyard. Spoke to a few contractors, eventually picked Axel because of good communication and he came prepared with rock samples. Axel was really nice, even finished the work early. He even came back to fix a bender board that lifted up. There were some minor issues where the rocks didn't fully cover the ground, but the big issue was that a few months after the job was completed...the yard was covered with weeds, weeds, weeds. He made it sound like a few would sprout here and there and can be addressed with weedkiller and I didn't press him on it, but as you can see in the photo below, it is a weed forest. read more

Axel was super easy and great to work with from the start! He was quick to be available to provide an estimate and was able to provide good recommendations for redesigning my front yard within my budget. He even gave a digital rendering of his ideas! That was what pretty much sold me since he was able to bring what I wanted come to digital life and then real life! He came out the following week and completed the work with his crew in 1 day. We were extremely pleased with Mulch and Landscaping Design. We used them for our pool area planters. We wanted to have a low maintenance and minimal watering planters, particularly because we wanted to minimize mosquitos. Alex had a lot of options for us to consider. We have clumping bamboo, with minimal ground plants so there is no hiding for critters. Drip irrigation is all we need to keep the bamboo watered, yet no excess water for mosquitos. After reviewing the options for ground cover we decided to use gravel. This will be long lasting and looks great. It is also heavy enough not to blow when we blow leaves. I highly recommend Axel because of his professionalism, creativity, quality and value. He communicated well and was a pleasure to work with. read more

Axel and team got my landscaping project done on time and was easy to work with once expectations were clear. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was 2 incidences of agreeing to updates to the work order verbally and then not remembering those agreements when came time to do the updates. I'll be happy to work with him again on a project with extra care that every quantity of plant, size of plant, location of plant and prep work, and clean up are all spelled out in the estimate. read more

We had the pleasure of working with Axel from Mulch and Landscaping Design. From beginning to end the whole experience was great. Axel is so sweet. He did a great job with our landscaping and for a great price. We asked him to remove the old faded wood mulch, replace with rubber mulch, remove plants that were dying, lay fabric in our flowerbeds to deter weeds from growing, install a flower bed border, and plant water-wise and drought tolerant flowers. Tall order for sure. I'm really picky and we went back and forth until we landed on flowers and an border that I liked. He even went out of this way to paint the flower border the color I wanted. You won't go wrong with Axel, I would hire him again! read more

Axel responded promptly to my call and provided a free estimate. My job involved the placement of mulch (gorilla hair) on my front slope and yard. Axel worked within my budget and even provided additional material to create a uniform look through the whole yard. I received a couple quotes from other landscaping companies. Axel did everything to win my business. He worked within my budget without compromising quality. I was hesitant to write this review because Axel is a really nice guy, however, we are a little disappointed with what we got for our money. Pros: Axel was responsive, friendly and did his best to understand what we wanted. We also told him we were on a budget and he worked with us on that. Cons: Shortly after the work was completed, we began seeing lots of weeds in our mulch garden. I was told by several friends, family and other landscapers that if the job were done properly, there should have been tarp under the mulch to prevent weeds from popping up. Another option to prevent weeds would have been to use a drip system. Upon digging up some mulch we discovered that there was no tarp laid out whatsoever. The mulch was placed directly on top of the dirt which is a really great way to grow weeds! The tarp would have prevented weeds from sprouting up and destroying our beautiful new garden. Axel never once mentioned the need for tarp or the option for us to put tarp. Since he is the expert, we took his word for it and only went with whatever he said we needed. Another option to prevent weeds was to use a drip system as opposed to using sprinklers. Axel initially mentioned the possibility of a drip system but after he was done installing everything when I asked him how the drip system worked, he told me we didn't need it and that he just used our existing sprinkler system. I asked him if he was sure that that was going to work and he said that yes, we should be fine with that. Again, we didn't know the difference but come to find out that since sprinklers spread water to all parts of the garden (as opposed to a drip system which only feeds water to the garden plants), weeds will grow out really quickly if the water dispersion is not controlled. So now, after spending several thousand dollars for the new garden, and 3 weeks later, we have a bunch of weeds sprouting up everywhere. These weeds are totally destroying the look and making us feel like we chose the wrong guy for the job. If tarp or a drip system would have been presented to us we would have at least considered them and maybe chosen to include at least one of those options. Even if it cost more, if we knew it would have prevented the weeds, then we could have made an informed decision. The problem was, no one explained any of this to us or mentioned/warned of the possibility of weeds if we didn't use tarp or a drip system. As it stands, we are disappointed because we feel Axel didn't communicate to us our options and now we are left with a lot of weeds in a new, expensive, garden. read more

Axel and his team from Mulch and Landscaping Design are absolutely THE BEST. From start to finish, working with Axel was a dream. I asked for general clean-up and mulching for a fairly large residential yard (front and back) and his work transformed our space. Axel and company went above and beyond on this job. He repaired split and lifting bender board, fixed irrigation that needed fixing, hand trimmed our plants, removed dead shrubs and planted replacements I purchased while they were working. We are considering a few hardscape additions and will definitely use Mulch and Landscaping Design owned by Axel Escobar for ALL future outdoor garden and landscape improvements.
