This neighborhood gem was worth a 10 min detour to enjoy a more local experience while in Lucerne. We went for lunch, but dinner would be equally excellent with good seating outside and inside. For lunch, there are two staples on the menu in addition to two rotating specials (1 plant based, 1 includes an animal protein). We had the veal saltimbocca over a bed of risotto and the anti pasta platter both of which were excellent. They were great for our 8 and 10 year old with special plates with cute designs and pasta as an option for kids. Coffees were also excellent quality. The outdoor seating area is shaded by umbrellas and very relaxing. All the servers were friendly and helpful (there's no English menu but they helped translate what we couldn't figure out). There's an overall classy vibe to the place and I would have eaten there many more times if we were there longer. Loved it!

It's about 10 km from downtown, and 11 minutes by trains that run every 15 minutes (and there's a direct train to the airport.) It's right on the lake, sunny in the afternoons, and the rooms are bigger than you'll get in downtown. Don't get me wrong - it ain't cheap. But all the hotels in Zurich are really expensive, and the Sonne is charming AND... If you walk up the main street, and follow the stream called the Tobler, you come to a ravine trail that is wonderfully Swiss. The waterfalls are sculpted, there are arched bridges over the stream, and this time of year there are teams of civic workers in the forest valley blowing away the leaves! (Even other Zurich residents think this is a bit much.) Up and down is about 15 km with 220 m vertical, and just a great way of working off your Zurcher g'schnetzlets mit Rosti!

Victor Cordes, the manager, has done a superb job putting this team together to deliver superb food, incredible wines in a traditional Swiss ambiance and very friendly atmosphere.
