Fish, crab, Wagyu
Kyle A.

Overall wonderful dinner and experience across the board. The staff are very considerate and efficient with seating including guest arrangement, chef Asanuma is warm and easygoing, happy to talk about dishes and ingredients. The dishes are artfully presented with flatware highlighting specific qualities. The restaurant has intricate decorations combining Japanese and NYC aesthetics. Highlights were the abalone rice, cod milt tempura, nodoguro, and wild yellowtail. If I had to nitpick, the Wagyu beef was delicious but felt out of proportion with amount of sauce, would suggest either slightly larger Wagyu or less sauce. The snow crab rice was delicious but felt unevenly distributed in terms of the crab and salmon roe. The truffle on soba didn't seem to add much to me and was overpowered by the broth. Alone, the dessert highlighted orange flavors but felt a bit lacking in sweetness, however it worked out because it paired very well with chateau d'yquem. The drink pairing had excellent selections and overall went well and was appropriately priced. The drink menu actually had an impressive selection of wines, sakes and liquor with diverse geographic offerings and across a spectrum. The highlighted courses were amazing and the rest were also tasty but to me could be elevated a bit however much of it is also personal taste. Would definitely return however and look forward to future visits!

Maybe I met a fluke new bartender that knows nothing about pouring a proper pint. But I bought a specialty can for myself and a pint for my boyfriend. Initially, I asked if they had any red ales or ambers, brown ales and he said we have a lot of nice stouts and porters. My boyfriend is definitely not into dark beers (i wish) but any moron would know an Amber or red ale anything what I mentioned isn't pitch black and sweet as syrup. So I looked at beers on tap for him. He poured me a Czech beer and the foam head was 4 inches at least thick. I was told it's an "experience". And when my boyfriend was also considerably upset he said "it's an experience". I paid $9-11 for an experience of missing half his drink in a smaller sized pour of a normal 14-16 oz mug. He gave back the drink because he was so unhappy with it and he did nothing to remedy the situation. I get you let drinks settle but that's not how your pour a pint at least not in the USA. He asked if it could be filled the remained and he said absolutely not. lol. Ridiculous. Hoping things get better here because I love craft beer spots and they are a dime a dozen but not when they shaft you. Also please bring back the jammy peanut butter sour.

Still a solid beer spot with a good collection of brews - since the last time I was here though,…read morethey have fewer cans to go. Some of the fridges replaced by additional seating. A good change if you're looking to drink there, maybe less ideal if looking to grab some to go. Regardless, would still recommend as I always find at least 2-3 specialty options I like!!

You just couldn't ignore a place with this kind of name. Door (and window) was shut, so upon walking in, it was dimly lit and a little too warm but it cooled off some once we settled in. Seating by the window was taken by a couple, but the bar had some empty seating. It took a moment for the lone bartender to greet us, then she went back to talking to a guy in the middle of the bar. When I was finally able to get her attention again, I went with the Carlifree, which is hibiscus tea, mint, yuzu juice, and club soda. I don't think I ever had anything yuzu-based before in my life, but it works here. The hibiscus visually dominates in a pretty shade of red, while the mint is the alternative refresher. I probably drank this a little too quickly, but I enjoyed what I had. Restroom in the very back is similar to being on an airplane. Even I felt it was a tight fit, and I'm small. Service could have been a little more attentive, especially for one person behind the bar, but she was friendly when you had her attention. Drink selection seemed decent by the crowds they seem to get, and I'm glad they offer zero-proof options. Unique find here that I'm happy I was able to try.

One of the only speakeasies that's open during the day so it is a great place to spend time if the weather is not agreeable - which can happen frequently in a city like NYC. The bartender was sweet, menu was limited. We got a drink each before heading out to other nearby bars on a night of bar hopping. I would recommend getting the Empress X which is what I got. I love it is located in East Village because there are so many cool thrift stores, bars and restaurants in close proximity.

Surrounding TVs keep every play, fight and miracle replayed in glorious surround-sass while wooden tables beg for pitchers, pretzels and conspiracy theories about the ref. Whether you're upstairs for the 3rd floor vibe, mid-level for the perfect sightline, or down in the cozy den with the best acoustics, this is New York sports bar energy: loud, a little brazen, impossibly welcoming. One particular bartender, Delaney not only brings an awesome level of energy to the bar, she saunters in like a halftime show -- a grin that's equal parts mischief and welcome. She's all quick elbows and quicker comebacks, the kind of bartender who remembers your name, your drink, and that one ridiculous story you told months ago. Her laugh is loud, her wink is devious, and she has a way of making first-timers feel like regulars by the second round. Behind the wooden bar she's choreography: expert pours, theatrical muddles, and a flourish that makes every order feel curated. Delaney's drinks are personality-packed, with her behind the bar, the place doesn't just serve drinks -- it gets its personality back. It's a place off 8th ave where fitness meets fun, and every corner feels like home--complete with friendly staff who know your name (or at least your size) and are always ready to offer a witty comeback or a perfect recommendation.
