Having said that, I will say it was worth the effort This place is small so you would think they'd hurry you out so the tables could turn over; that was NOT the case! We never felt rushed. It appears to be a small staff, and let me say, they really work. They are efficient extremely helpful and attentive without making you feel uncomfortable. Now for the food. My companions said it was the best steak they have had in years. It was cooked as they like it, it was tender and flavorful. There is one caveat to be aware of. I have been in Germany for two years and have never tasted German flavors like this. The place has a cozy interior. The tables are very close to getter so be prepared to speak quietly or get friendly with other patrons dining. We came here after a day of hiking the Ibsee so we were famished, however the restaurant was only offering sandwiches, soups, and salad. The reason for this is most likely because 4 -5 pm is not the usual dinner hours here. If you want to experience the whole menu make a reservation ahead of time because this place is a local HOT SPOT. The seat will all be taken if you plan on just walking in the same night. My husband had the potato soup and a sandwich. Our friend had tomato soup and also a sandwich. I had the tomato soup with bread and butter. Sounds like not a lot of food, but I was definitely stuffed by the end of this meal. My husband and our friend should not have finished their sandwiches but because it was warm and delicious they couldn't stop themselves. The soups were by far the best I/we ever had anywhere! The highlight however goes to the butter that was served with the bread. It had a garlicky, buttery, chive taste but the end notes were cumin like... I've Never had such delicious combinations of spices like that before in butter. I kept one of the butter medallions and I am still trying to figure out what was in it All in all best Germany cuisine I have ever experienced. Really enjoyed this place. We came in as an odd time around 3 and they only had their "cold menu". We ordered salads, our kids had the ham and cheese sandwich and we also had the Spargel Suppe that was phenomenal. Salads were so good- in general, we have struggled with finding decent salads at restaurants, so this was a wonderful surprise. The outside got really busy and the staff was superb- pretty much running to get everything out fast, but still found time to be friendly and pleasant. You might think a heart attack is coming when you hear bacon/ham wrapped schnitzel, but quite the contrary, the cut of meat is wrapped in very fine, but full of flavor ham and bacon. I actually look forward to my business trips here just for their salads. I'm not sure what it is about the mix of the fresh tender greens, shredded carrot and special dressing but I am a fan. This is - hands down - the best casual place for breakfast, lunch and an early dinner in Garmisch. Mukkefuck is known for their salads (which are bigger than my head) and their house salad dressing. It's sort of a caesar but better. Man, I'm tempted to break in at night and steal the recipe... Except, it's probably not written down and if it is, it's in German and well, I don't speak or read German and then I'd be risking imprisonment for no good reason. I digress. The baguette sandwiches (specifically the roast beef or the turkey) are my FAVORITE. They are huge and tasty and just oh so good. They have a full coffee bar as well as beer and liquor. I've tried the pumpkin, cucumber and the potato soup... Now, I never know which one I want when I go because they're all delicious. They have a great little beer garden outside when the weather is beautiful. I normally only write reviews on places that I absolutely LOVE or I absolutely HATE on Yelp... Not only do I love this place but I would give it an extra star if I could so it would stand out on top... And they sell t-shirts. Only downside is that they have a limited menu in the hours between Lunch and Dinner. They speak English very well and are extremely welcoming. Read the 5 star reviews and since the restuarant is a short walk down the strasse, had to give it a shot. Well, here in all my poor writing style is what I experienced: Arrived after lunch and the restaurant was rather quiet - good for me. Started off with an aperitif martini (w.russo), which was quite good. Nice start. Next, appetizer of potato soup - surprised by the large portion and was really taken aback by the flavor and freshness. Next asked the waitress for her recommendation, which was "noodles with ham or cheese". Ordered the noodles with ham which came with a "small" salad. So, the salad comes out and it is big enough to share or I should have skipped the soup. Within minutes, the "ham noodles" arrive and the portion is rather large. The ham pasta was really good and not willing to be admit that I had too much to eat, I devoured all the pasta and half the salad. Had a Helles beer with my main course but would have preferred another martini! Two hours later, even after an extended walk back to my hotel, I am stuffed. I highly recommend this restaurant but realize that the portion sizes can be large. PS - there is seating in the back of the restaurant on the right hand side of the bar. This ancient, charming place nestled near the pedestrian walk in Garmisch-Partenkirchen has, hands down, the best salad I have ever had. The Austerpilzen and Speck salat, the only salad not translated into English on the menu, is a mixture of field greens, bacon, and oyster mushrooms combined with the local yoghurt dessing for which Garmisch is known, and which Mukkefuck does better than anyone. The staff is friendly and the venue is charming in the old-timey, we've been here for 800 years type of way you expect in a place like Garmisch. Not to be missed on a visit to this village. Exceptional food and extremely professional staff. The ambiance was comfortable and quaint. I started with the oyster mushrooms, bacon, and corn. It was the best thing I've put in my face since I've been in Bavaria. Next I had the München Schnitzel. This was fantastic. Although I usually prefer a heavy Jagar gravy on my schnitzel, this came without sauce. The pleasant surprise: it didn't need it. The schnitzel is actually prepared w bacon or ham under the crust and has a horseradish finish. This blew my mind. My wife had an enormous salad w bacon. All the food tasted fresh and very well prepared. We will definitely go back when we return to Garmisch. read more
