This was our first stop when we arrived in Garmisch-Partenkirchen yesterday. We stopped in at lunch time and had the place to ourselves. A friendly young woman gave us an English menu and we ordered a couple of beers and two starters to share.
We each had a couple .5L Weizen glasses of Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier, a light Bavarian wheat beer found on tap at most bars in the region. It was exactly what we wanted after all the planes and trains and walking.
The starters we shared were the foie gras on toast and a smoked salmon bruschetta. I respect that foie gras isn't for everyone, but as someone who has enjoyed it a few times before, this was maybe the best I've ever had- incredible fresh flavor without any gaminess. The bruschetta was lighter overall and equally fresh.
All in all it was an excellent introduction to some of the options this area can offer. It wasn't exactly cheap, but for the quality of the food and service, we definitely didn't feel ripped off. read more
