If you are an American I would very highly recommend not patronizing this establishment. The manager and bartender here have made it very clear to me that they actively despise Americans. My father was born in Garmisch. I always wanted to see it and as I am not well off, it was a struggle for me to get here. I came and visited and took lots of great pictures. I came into this pub one night and while I did get the vibe that I was not exactly welcome, I stayed hoping I could earn their trust as it was the only place around that was open and I realized that like any other nationality, America has it's share of disrespectful people and they had probably had their share of those. So, I quietly drank my beer by myself and tipped quite well and went home. The next day, I realized I had left my phone there. Being out of the country, I was pretty upset about that as well as upset about possibly losing the pictures I had taken here. I waited anxiously all day until they opened - which is late at 5 p.m. I have studied as much German as my busy schedule permits over the last few years anticipating this trip and tried to use it with them as much as I could to show respect while I was here. When the pub finally opened, I came in and they had my phone! I was overjoyed. To make it easier on them as their English is perhaps not as good as they think it is, I penned them a note with Google Translate to explain how thankful I was. I also told them that I had encountered people here who clearly did not like Americans but that I realize that is unavoidable for any person who is visiting a foreign country, and thanked them for being nice. The managers reply was that he hoped I would leave soon and fly home. I told him that I was flying home in the morning and he said that was very good as he would not like to see me there. The bartender and some of the patrons cheered this on. I cannot tell you the level of hurt and offense I took to that. I did nothing but pay them for my food and drink and stay quiet and respectful and tip well. I am very, very sad to say that not only will I not come back to this establishment but to this entire area. I had planned to bring my kids here in the future and promised them that, but I can't do that in any kind of good faith now. Some people were very kind in this area, but the kind of gathering of people who loudly oppose Americans visiting has sent a clear message to me. If you plan to visit anyway, I guess I would understand that but you would do yourselves and everyone else a favor to avoid this pub. read more
