We were in the area and looking for somewhere that was open for lunch around noon and I'm so glad we found Schloss Brauhaus! We walked in and seated ourselves and were quickly welcomed by our server. The radler and lager were both really good. I got the Allgäuer Kässpätzle, which was incredible. It was super cheesy and flavorful. My bf got the Zwiebelrostbraten, which was also really good with the steak perfectly cooked. Then we got two desserts to spilt and I couldn't tell you which one was better. The Apfelstrudel was warm and not too sweet and the "Bier"amisu was unique and absolutely delicious. We arrived late morning for the castle tour at 1pm. Hungry, we were very happy to find this place open. The six of us took an outside table under an umbrella and ordered a round of beers and schnapps to toast our arrival. Then of course we ordered some food. If you are going to do a trip to the Neuschwanstein castle the schloss brauhaus is a must! Everything here was great! The prices were really reasonable and the service we got was more attentive than most the other restaurants in Europe we visited. I highly recommend the curry wurst. The depth of flavor is amazing and it was the best curry wurst we had in Germany, including octoberfest. The beer was also great and they have a nice selection. It has a nice beer garden and this was the perfect way to cap off the day trip to the castle! read more

They have mediocre food. Staff took a while to take our order, we waited about half an hour until i finally very politely approached them. Still they ignored my quiet and patient family, we don't know why. Apologies, we didn't have a happy experience with the way they'd treated us. The Quarkbällchen was amazing though, 3/€3,50. In order to escape the tourist mecca of nearby Neuschwanstein castle, I had to turn to Europe's Yelp alternative, the Michelin guide. This place is mentioned there, reviews looked solid on yelp and google, thus decided to give it a shot. The location is quite spectacular, with a surreal view of mountains, castle, fields and a pleasant outdoor seating area. As the weather did not cooperate, we ended up seating on the inside. As any meal in Germany should start, mine started with a good beer, in this case their house Dunkel. Coming after that was their goulash, which was made wonderfully and bursting with flavor. Next course following was Weisswurst, The German white sausage served in a dish with its own juice. I don't have other experiences of weisswurst to compare this to, but this was one of the best sausages I've tried in my life. Unbelievably good. When eaten with a pretzel that they make there and some German mustard, it was basically a heavily meal. The pork knuckle was good as well, tasty skin on the outside and served with a German dumpling. I did not find the pork quality to be anything above average, but it was a pretty solid meal. Food did not take too long to come out either. Nice part is they also accept credit cards, which was such a relief. I hate judging places based on this, but given the time and place, taking credit cards should be a minimum for a sit down restaurant and in an ideal scenario, Apple Pay should be accepted as well. read more

Great biergarten and food spot away from the tourist trap near the castle. They have mandatory contact tracing check in at the entrance and ample space to spread out. The Hefeweizen was good but honestly can't tell much of a difference between one brand and another of the same beer type. Pork knuckle was great, the portion is enough for probably 2 people to share and take another side. I was really full and skipped dinner after having that and a half liter of beer. read more

They make several beers in house. We ate their cheese Soup. It was tasty and had green onion slices on top. I ordered their White Sausage with pretzel. The 2 sausages(I expected only one) came in a soup tureen with water and a slice of lemon. The pretzels here are hard on the outside, like crusty bread. My husband had 3 roasted pork sausages with sauerkraut and bread. It was very good. It's interesting how they pour beer, they intentionally put a 3-4" head on it. read more

We were staying at a hotel in Fussen but took advantage of a beautiful summer evening to walk the 30 minutes to Schloss Brauhaus in Schwangau because it was a brewery that served food. That was a bit of an underestimate. Schloss Brauhaus was a restaurant that had a Biergarten that served beer they brewed. It was a Friday night, we had no reservations, and there were tour group busses parked in front, but they were able to find us a table to share with another couple in the Biergarten. I don't know if it was because it was Friday night or if they have the show every night, but we got to watch a dance troop dressed in traditional garb perform traditional Bavarian dances and listen to a live "OOM PAH PAH" band. Our waitress was very pleasant and helped us with the menu and making sure that we got our beers. The menu was traditional German food. I really enjoyed the braised pork with boiled dumplings. My vegetarian wife chose the bread dumplings in a mushroom sauce, but was disappointed that the dumplings were not boiled in the sauce, but were slices of compressed dry bread placed on top of the sauce. The beer garden also had play areas for children and had a great view of Neuschwanstein castle in the distance. read more

We drove over 5 hours to this town in order to tour the castles and this was the only place we got to dine at due to time restrictions. With that said, if you could only choose one restaurant to go to while visiting the area, let it be this one. You will not regret it! We got here around 7pm in the evening. I'm not sure if it's because of the weekday, but this huge place is fairly quiet. They keep their menus on each table. We ordered a few different things here. Bavarian Cheese Soup: This was absolutely amazing. It taste exactly like you're eating cream and melted cheese. It is a VERY rich dish and as you could already guess, not for those watching their diet. Definitely more on the heavy side. Mixed Platter: This is the cheese and meat platter that also comes with bread and a couple blocks of butter with extra garnish like onions that I totally don't care for. The variety of meat were delicious, but I do find the cheese to be too mild tasting. I personally prefer a stronger and sharper taste otherwise, the bread just overpowers it all for me. Still, it makes a great snack while we wait for the entrees. Deer Goulash: If you're sick of the typical meat variety, definitely give this dish a try. The spaetzle is wonderfully buttery. The deer meat in the sauce is packed with wonderful flavors and very well seasoned. The Cranberry sauce on the side really gives the dish a nice and refreshing balance. Pork Knuckle: It comes in two sizes. I ordered the small. When they brought it out, I had to verify if it was the right size I ordered because that thing was HUGE. It was served with a potato dumpling that is super creamy, but very dense and should be enjoyed while hot. It develops a very weird gummy texture after cooling. The pork knuckle was cooked to perfection with the best part (pork skin!) being super crunchy and delicious. The whole thing tasted like a high quality version of those Asian BBQ pigs you'd find at the supermarkets. It was really hard to cut up the pork knuckle so eating was a huge challenge. Worth it! The prices were reasonable the service was friendly. And as a huge bonus, Justin loved their beer! read more

What a beautiful setting! You can see the rolling hills and castle in the background, so the location simply cannot be beat. The service was efficient and with a smile which is also always appreciated. I stopped in here for a beer, pretzel and some dessert and was very satisfied. The only downfall was that the pretzel wasn't terribly fresh and a bit hard and they charge more than I would expect for obatza. read more

Had a small lunch at this really nice brewery before visiting Neuschwanstein castle. Service was very fast, we came with a tour group and received great service. I had the Spaetzl with Cheese and caramelized onions (basically German mac & cheese). It was perfectly cheesy and enjoyable! Others in my group ordered salads which looked ok. Prices were very reasonable for food and drinks. There is a large outdoor seating area and the interior was spacious and comfortable with a more modern rustic feel. There's a separate banquet hall and they also offer bowling and have a mini golf course. Huge plus are the clean bathrooms located in the lower level. read more

We went here as part of our Mike's Bike Tours exploration, and it was such a great spot to dine at with our trip buddies! I had the beef goulash with dumplings and my husband had the pork schnitzel with cheese and bacon and spatzle. Both dishes were absolutely delicious! They were so hearty and filling, which made for an interesting hike up the mountain to see the castle haha. All of the portions were extremely generous and the dishes were seasoned exceptionally well. Our waitstaff was great, and we really enjoyed our meal here! We had just toured Neuschwanstein Schloss and had passed the restaurant on our way there, just a few kilometers away. Good section of beers to choose from. We shared a mixed platter as an appetizer. This was a great place to grab a bite on our way through to Fussen. We ate outdoors in August -- it was gorgeous weather and a beautiful view of the mountains! You also can't really complain about beer and sausage. This location is a bit of a drive away from all the tourist crowds near the Neuschwanstein castle, so I would recommend it if you want some quiet. read more

I came here with my boyfriend after we spent the day hiking around the nearby castles. We were able to find seating at the long tables in the big Hall and were helped immediately. A lot of the dishes come with a salad bar, which I found really nice since I hadn't had too many vegetables since getting to Germany! The food was delicious and had a lot of the authentic German dishes. They also had all of their house beers on tap and available, as well as some wines. The pricing was also very reasonable in the portions were pretty large, so I would recommend paying this place to visit! There is a large parking lot right outside too. read more

Stopped here during our tour of Neuschweinstein with mike's bikes. The beer is tasty (not amazing, but good), the staff is well prepared for large groups to arrive all at once. How refreshing! Nice Bräuhaus in Schwangau, almost a traditional bierhalle. Nice service and when we were there lots of people waiting for the Germany/Italy game in Euro 2016. We left pretty early, but I can imagine the atmosphere when later that night Germany won on penalty kicks and advanced to the semifinals! Recommended! read more

One of the stars is for the awesome view. One for the delicious Oktoberfest beer. But both the Gulasch and the pork steak were nearly salted to inedibility (and I usually add salt). Companion loved the pork knuckle. Kinder schnitzel was good, fries were good. Apple strudel was excellent. So come for the outdoor beer garden and the view. And choose your entree with care, because if it were raining and I didn't drink beer, it might be one star. read more

Schlossbrauhaus was a perfect way to cap the adventure of trekking all the way up to Neuschweinstein and all the way back down. It was a gorgeous day in early November so we sat outside and our boys (almost 5 at the time) played while we drank delicious (and well earned) beer. The view of the castle set high up the mountain is just amazing. We are doing it all again in about a week with family coming in, and we will definitely make Schlossbrauhaus our stop after the castle. read more

My family and I had a great experience here. To begin with, they speak English and are very friendly. A marked difference from our experience in Munich. The food was very good and the beer was better. I recommend the sausage with potato salad (the best I had in Germany). Likewise, the Dunkel Weiss was the best I had. What gave this place its fifth star was the brew master. Our waitress asked us how our meal was, and we mentioned how much we enjoyed the beer. Five minutes later, the brew master sat at our table and we had a great beer talk. He also brought out a new batch of beer he was experimenting with for us to try. If we ever go back to Bavaria, we will certainly return here. read more

This rating is for the overall experience since I can't speak to the quality of their food. I'm American and I can't possibly claim to be knowledgable about German food. We went on a Wednesday night and it was reasonably busy. A band was playing and it had the requisite beer. I had a dunkle and my husband had a weizenbier (sp?). I enjoyed the restaurant because it was away from the town (5min drive), and hence, away from large hoards of tourists. They do have an English menu and English speaking staff. Again, I don't know what good German food tastes like but this was better food than Hofbrauhaus. And there isn't such a thing as bad German beer, right? read more
