    Apple Strudel
    Mike N.

We walked in here for our late afternoon pick-me-ups on a day of long drive and after a late lunch. We walked around this quaint little town for some points of interest after checking in to our hotel. It was away from the center of the town, but it was just a short walk from our hotel. Since we didn't have a reservation, the host allowed us to have a table with an understanding that we'll finish by 18:00 (in about 80 minutes). We thought that'd give us plenty of time to have something refreshing and empty our table, so we agreed to our terms. There were only a few items on a menu in terms of desserts, so we ordered an apple strudel with ice cream (photo). Mmm, that was very good. It took a while before the dish came out, and the strudel was still warm. It had a very good flavor, and whipped cream and ice cream combination was very good. Service was very good. Our server spoke English and took care of us right away. The outdoor dining area was under the trees. With light breeze and shade, it was almost perfect atmosphere in the sunny afternoon. I thought we'd be back for a meal here, but we didn't come back for the rest of our long weekend in Oberammergau. Perhaps, the next time we're close by, we'd come back and try their main meals. Judging from our apple strudel, it promises to be a great place to eat and enjoy ourselves.

Ate at this place tonight. I got a classic meal, roast pork with crisp pork skin with sauerkraut and dumplings. Very good meal, especially coating the pork with the the beer gravy. I had a beautiful setting with a view of the mountains. The service staff was polite and the food came out quick. All around a great meal.

Had lunch here on a quiet Tuesday--I had a good Beer & Onion soup, loaded with loops of sweet onion, and a cheese & spaetzle dish. This looked like mac and cheese but had a very deep, rich taste, like Gorgonzola was involved... I could only eat half of this dish! Also had a cold Hofbrau beer. This restaurant was a shade pricier and ambiance a bit more elegant than most of the brauhaus restaurants we visited in Germany and Austria; overall a pleasant experience.

Stopped in for a beer after walking around Oberammergau for the afternoon. The outside patio area is nice and inviting. It's especially nice on a pleasant day. They've got plenty of seating and a great view. I ended up staying for dinner. They have several menu choices and a good variety. I had the schnitzel, which was excellent. The person I had dinner with had the stroganoff, which was also very good. The service was spot on throughout. It's a little off the beaten path in Oberammergau, but worth the trip.

This place was awesome! We had passed the day before and I said how cool it looked from the outside. They had an awesome kids play area, so we asked to be seated right near it. It helped tremendously when waiting for our food. We tried their wheat beer to start, which reminded us of an IPA from the states! Really good! All the food was amazing. We had the carpaccio and spargel soup for an appetizer. Then proceeded to have the kids spaghetti, pulled pork sandwich and crispy pork. The kids spaghetti noodles looked homemade and the sauce had a great taste to it. I was very surprised the pulled pork was so tasty. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the crispy pork. On to dessert, we splurged and got two. Strawberry creme brûlée and apple strudel! Strudel was really out of this world. The brûlée has the perfect balance with the rhubarb sorbet. All in all our experience was amazing. I only didn't give 5 stars because we felt our service was slower because we were American. My husband speaks some German and would talk in such. But we noticed the table next to us was German and got all their food before ours each time. We had some long waiting periods in between food and they did not. Finally my husband spoke only German half way through the meal and our service picked up. I just found that somewhat irritating since he had tried in the beginning to speak german and the waiter begrudgingly switched to English ‍

Hello Summer IPA! I like you! We ate here twice in the week we were in town! The service here was great. The food was great. We had the goulash, pork knuckle, pulled pork sandwich, tomato soup, and a beer onion soup. The goulash was fantastic. The pork knuckle was tender and the outside was perfectly crispy. The pulled pork sandwich is very good for being in Germany where it seems like BBQ is few and far between. The sweet potato fries were an excellent touch. The soups were even good. There was so much we wanted to try here and will be back if we are in the area.

Here visiting for Christmas with the family. What an amazing dinner, atmosphere and service! Matthias (Matthew) was our waiter. He was very kind and attentive. If you're looking for great food, and a charming and cozy place, this restaurant is for you! 5 Stars all the way! Thanks for making our holiday special!

Cool atmosphere and great service. They had a fantastic beer selection and, naturally, many porky and potato-y dishes on their menu. We went for a late lunch and practically had the place to ourselves. Would recommend!

During a lengthy stay in Oberammergau many of the restaurants were explored and this one became a favourite. OK, it obviously aims to capture American visitors and you'll hear more English spoken than German, but if you can get past that you'll have an enjoyable experience. The beer, of course, is fresh and during the Spargel season some the specialities were satisfying, though the portion sizes were a little on the small size. My Risotto of Wild Mushrooms and Asparagus was extremely tasty, but I could easily have eaten double the amount! Friendly service in this cosy restaurant. Recommended.

This is one of my favorite places in Oberammergau. The food is amazing. The beer is all super. The staff is friendly and professional and attentive. Everyone speaks English superbly. The atmosphere is relaxing yet polished. You get a mix of diners, some in shorts or jeans and some in evening wear. The outdoor beer garden is extremely pleasant in the warmer months. I didn't find anything not to like here. I wish I could of stayed here while I was in the area but they were booked full, hardly uncommon. If you want to stay at this hotel book early, especially in the warmer months - April through October. The restaurant gets very busy so you should make a reservation. If you want to try the cellar beer go early, it's popular and they do run out of it on busy evenings. It's centrally located downtown within walking distance of most of Oberammergau. I highly recommend it!

Before you commit to eating here, make a reservation! It is definitely worth it. I had the roasted pork with potato dumplings and the CellarBeer. Amazing is an understatement. The pork was tender and juicy with perfectly crispy skin. The dumplings were cooked perfectly. The beer they brew on site tastes really good as well. Definitely recommend this place if you're hungry and want some savory Bavarian food!

Stayed in Hotel Maximilian and ate here a few times. Their Monroe beer is probably the best beer I've ever had in my life. It's seasonal, but if you are here when they are serving it I strongly suggest you try it. A bit pricey, but overall was great food, beer, and service.

    Käsespätzle and mixed greens

Nice atmosphere, crazy enough we don't drink alcohol so I can't speak of the beer. We had refreshing water and sparkling rhubarb juice. The käsespätzle was outstanding! The maxbräu pfefferhaxe was good too. Beautiful presentation and flavor.

We had the beer-fried cheese as an appetizer; it was a good comfort food. I had the veal schnitzel which came with a cornmeal coating. I am not sure the cornmeal coating worked as it was more crunchy than crispy (1 star off), but the veal was tender and seasoned well. My husband got the bratwurst with sauerkraut. The ground meat to make bratwurst in Bavaria is more homogeneous and smooth than that in the U.S.; I liked the texture and flavor. I left still feeling the same about Bavarian food unfortunately, but this place gave me a bit more optimism.

The waitstaff is really friendly and accommodating to foreigners who don't speak German. They have an English menu too which is great. Everything my party ordered was amazing! There was no food left on the table once we were through. I ordered the roasted salmon and it was amazing. So flavorful and fresh tasting. My husband ordered the salmon pasta and that was really delicious as well. They have plenty of seating indoors and even have a kids seat. I highly recommend if you're in the area. I'll definitely be returning again if I'm ever in town.

He was very funny and interacted with the kids right away. After ordering our drinks, he sat next to my son in the booth and started doing magic tricks. We ordered goulash for starters. SO GOOD! The kids had noodles, which my daughter devoured. I had Jagersnitzel which was also amazing. The portions are HUGE. After being in Germany for a couple months, I have to say this has been the best German I've had since being here. Mixed with the ambiance and entertainment, I'd go back again and again!
