Let me preface this review by stating that I am not the biggest fan of Bavarian food, but felt obligated to have at least one traditional local meal while traveling through Bavaria. We had the beer-fried cheese as an appetizer; it was a good comfort food. I had the veal schnitzel which came with a cornmeal coating. I am not sure the cornmeal coating worked as it was more crunchy than crispy (1 star off), but the veal was tender and seasoned well. My husband got the bratwurst with sauerkraut. The ground meat to make bratwurst in Bavaria is more homogeneous and smooth than that in the U.S.; I liked the texture and flavor. Wow! This place is a gem in a beautiful town. My family and I stopped here on a rainy day during the week for an early dinner. The waitstaff is really friendly and accommodating to foreigners who don't speak German. They have an English menu too which is great. Everything my party ordered was amazing! There was no food left on the table once we were through. I ordered the roasted salmon and it was amazing. So flavorful and fresh tasting. My husband ordered the salmon pasta and that was really delicious as well. They have plenty of seating indoors and even have a kids seat. I highly recommend if you're in the area. This was easily some of the best food we had on our entire trip! We came in here early-ish on a weekday and had a great experience. The pancake soup and kaiserschmarrn were definitely our favorite dishes, but pretty much everything was delicious - including the beer! I had a great experience at s' Wirthaus! I visited on a Saturday night at about 6:30pm and was seated right away. I ordered the small Spätzle, which was excellent! It's also a decent sized portion for a small. Since I went for the small main dish, I figured I should have dessert. The apple strudel with vanilla ice cream was simply incredible! Came with a group of new found friends for dinner here on the recommendation of our hotel concierge and she was on the ball! This old German restaurant with its old time decor was a very interesting start! Our server Laura who also happened to be the owner's daughter was very friendly and extremely helpful! We started with a hearty Pancake coup and Kay had a tomato soup both of which were very good. John had a beef liver soup and was still smacking his lips! For the main course we has Schnitzel x3 and I had a Minced lamb cooked in tomatoes with a pasta which was AMAZING and I requested it be spicy and the Chef did not disappoint lol! We left here very full and went for a stroll in this beautiful town of Oberammergau! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND A VISIT HERE! read more

Hello lamb chops! We started with the pancake soup and corn! Delicious! Moved on to the lamb chops and turkey salad. Everything was fresh, I still can't get over how we haven't been to a restaurant that has served brown lettuce in a salad. The turkey on the salad was pretty good, but the lamb chops stole the show. These were by far my favorite. So moist and flavorful with a mustard mixture on the outside that balanced them out perfectly! We finished with a wonderful little apple strudel! I was told by my friends that this is the place for schnitzel and that I would be missing out if I came to Oberammagau and didn't go to s'Wirsthaus. After having dinner here, I would absolutely say, you are missing out if you don't eat here. I can only speak to two things on the menu...the s'Wirsthaus Schnitzel Special and the s'Wirsthaus Trio Special. The schnitzel is a bit expensive, but you get two cutlets of breaded pork, along with a sizable salad. The schnitzel breading is the best I have had in my 1+ year in Germany, however, may be a little too "oniony" for others. Definitely a strong onion taste, but not overpowering. The Trio Special is three different dough dumplings (spinach, the schnitzel breading, and a third one I don't remember) in a cream sauce with carrots. The cream sauce is outstanding, so good that my wife started stealing my sauce with her bread. The restaurant has a very refined look about it, but the atmosphere is very relaxed, which is a nice combination. We took our 2 kids there (2 boys) and didn't feel that they would be too noisy for the place. Overall, 5 stars -- great food, great atmosphere, great service. Definitely going to be a regular restaurant when we're in Oberammagau! read more

The atmosphere is pleasant and semi-formal - I do not recommend wearing t-shorts and shorts here. The staff speak excellent English, and the menu is in English. The Carpaccio (€9,90) appetizer is amazing. The extremely thin cuts of regionally smoked meat is one of the best I've had. The Blutwurst-Kartoffelgröstl (€12,80) as a main meal is delicious, wheat-free, not too much food, and highly recommended. The Spaghetti Rindfleisch is delicious, and a large size with a salad.
