    Truckfront.

Really turned off by the lack of friendliness. Not busy, a guy standing in the window waiting for somebody to order. Expected to tip at the beginning so you feel obligated to support these trucks not knowing what kind of service you will get. Took 30 minutes for my one order of bibimbap. No notice or apologies for the delay. Finally the buzzer went off, received the food with a glare and silence from the server. I said thank you with no response. This to-go bibimbap is same price as if you went into a sit down restaurant but without any banchan or hot tea. Inside the Hawthorne Asylum food truck plaza.

Leaving a 3 star review feels a little too low but 4 feels too high so I'm kinda stuck here. I enjoyed the meal and ate until I was full which is a good sign. The food itself is very average though. Simple ingredients combined in a bowl with a spicy sauce on top. The food itself doesn't really have any flavor that you can taste over the spicy sauce. I would like to see the food seasoned more and less of the sauce on top so it's more balanced. The sauce itself is also not really flavorful- just spicy. Nothing bad to say. Love the location inside of the Hawthorne Asylum. Fun place to hangout and get some drinks. Food came out quickly but it was also pretty slow when we came. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again but if my partner ordered it again I'd gladly eat off of her plate.

You can absolutely smell the fish and vinegar as soon as you walk through the door, which I think gives the place a very homey pub feel. I ordered a spiked peach Arnold Palmer, which I enjoyed (and it was pleasantly strong) and a glass of the house white, which was good for the price. Our server was very fast and attentive. To eat I got the tomato soup with a grilled cheese, which was absolutely fantastic. The soup was so creamy and flavorful, and I cannot imagine a better meal after spending all day walking outside in the rain. The fries were super crispy and I liked the batter. My partner and I shared some of their breadsticks, which were deliciously baked (fresh!) and came with a super refreshing basil crema and a nice tomato-y dip. Wonderful all. My partner ordered fish and chips, and was surprised to find that it is one large fillet of fish, not multiple pieces like you would typically expect. He said the fish was fine, but a little tough. Overall, a wonderful experience. I definitely hope to return. I highly recommend this place as a refuge during the cold winter months!

But the last few times I've stopped in for a meal, it feels like the food isn't quite as impressive as it used to be. Could be all in my head. Not sure. But it's always a nice spot to hang out and chat with friends, you can get seated quicker if you enter through Over & Out, which basically functions as an extension of the main Observatory, with it's own bar and pool tables.

HOWEVER - This is very different than your box of Kraft. This is more like the kind of macaroni and cheese that you get at Thanksgiving. Ooey, gooey, and oh so good. The add-ins create endless options for an infinite number of creations. And truth be told, you could probably split one of these damn things four ways. Then you would all be in for like five or six bucks. But for me, I like to get a bowl all to myself, eat about a third of it at midnight when I'm craving it. Then, the next day, I'll have the next third for breakfast with a fried egg over it. And then I'll have the remainder for lunch. So I've basically sustained myself for 24 hours for 20 bucks and it's bloody delicious. By the way, I heartily recommend the chicken nugget add-on. I'm not even that huge of a chicken fan myself, but oh my god I love these chicken nuggets. They're tender and juicy and full of flavor and they're the perfect little protein bomb on top of that big fat bowl starch to make it feel like an actual balance meal. Of course the pulled pork is also a good choice for the same reason, but whereas I have had plenty of other pulled pork that was just as good or better I literally have never had a better chicken nugget than here at Mac'd
