Besides the people behind the counter, there is no full-service wait-staff. Their energy is spent on the food. And when we were there, brown people were certainly there en force, chowing down. I think the cooks are Pakistani. I may be wrong about that. Certainly they are Muslim, and their cooking leans decidedly in that direction. If you want to skip the rich gravies, go for the "mixed grill," a tandoori platter piled high with perfectly seasoned meats. I saw an instagram reel about this place and then when I looked it up on Yelp, apparently it is a legend in the Jimmy Carter area! I told my parents when we had to run errands one day that we have to go! The guy at front doesn't really help you figure out what you want to order and their menu is huge. Everything we got was amazing though! We got a goat dish and a chicken biryani dish. Both were fantastic and not too pricey! Apparently they have a buffet, but the day we went there was no buffet out. Maybe they pick and choose what days they serve the buffet or maybe they stopped the buffet temporarily. We went there for dinner, with high expectations. Most my party ordered grilled items & biriani rice. I like to plan ahead, so i called before arrival & confirmed they serve Shawerma sandwiches, specifically beef. I ordered 3 when i got there, but sadly they lied to me. We had a vegetable curry, a goat dish, a mix grill, a regular naan, a garlic naan, Mughlai Fried Rice, Charga chicken, Gulab Jamun, Chai and Mango Lassi. I didn't have any Chai or the Mango Lassi. I stuck with my diet Coke. My coworker loved the Mango Lassi. One loved the Chai and the other didn't. As for the food, it was tasty. It was just a pain to eat if you're trying to do it without your hands. The goat dish was a miss for me. The problem was there was very little meat, but lots of bones. The mix grill was just ok. We went here for the Iftar buffet last weekend- it was $20 per person. There were lots of vegetarian and non vegetarian options but the taste was just okay. I absolutely loved the chicken kabob roll- 2 star definitely for that (they never disappoint me with the kabob roll) The second 65 and the tandoor chicken on the other hand was very dry and literally hurt my mouth. The flavor was great but didn't feel fresh- it seemed like the food was sitting out there for too long. Anyway- the taste of the curries were very similar to each other (as if they just used a similar base or sauce and added different meat to it) It took some time for them to refill the food but I understand that it is iftar time and things get crazy because everyone is so hungry. However, I didn't appreciate the owner/manager yelling on the microphone every 15 minutes saying things like "move the line faster, don't waste food, you gotta pay $10 for every plate you waste, just take some iftar food in your plate and come back again, give others a chance to take, etc." What I think might not matter to you but why would they set up the banquet hall for 100 people and just serve on one side? It is very likely that the line will get long and messy with all these people. So why not keep the food on two ends so people can stand on two lines? I just didn't like how it was all organized. My SO and I went searching for a nihari dish similar to a place we often went to in Washington DC, and boy did this place deliver. The nihari was hot, flavorful, spicy and tender, and tasted just as I remembered. On top of that, I ordered some garlic naan to dip it in and it was hands down some of the best naan I've ever had, and I've had a metric ton of naan in my life. Finished up the delicious meal with a nice cool gulab jamun and it was excellent. Location wise, it's in a bit of a run down strip mall, and the building itself is split with a big event hall, but don't be scared to go in and try this place. It all tasted like it was warmed up and masala...so much masala that you could not tell whether you are eating beef or chicken. It became a fact 5hrs later when we were storming to the bathroom :(. I heard of this place many times, but did not get a chance to go and try them. Last week one of my colleagues suggested this place and at last been here for their awesome lunch buffet. The place is little small and it is located in a shopping plaza. There is ample free parking in front of the restaurant. The restaurant ambiance is not so fancy but the food is very yummy. Just like any other Indian buffet places, you just have your choice of food from the buffet and pay at the counter. Not so pricey, their weekday lunch buffet is $8.99 and weekend lunch buffet is $10.99 Great place for groups and people who love to try new ethnic food. Unadorned Indian & Pakistani restaurant with banquet facilities and a Friday dinner buffet. They have a decent hall attached to the restaurant that you can have a get together party or for birthday celebrations or special events. They are open Tuesday thru Sunday 11 AM to 11 PM and Mondays closed. There should be little service for people that do not know what to order. As shown the menu has no description of the items. They should expand the menu with description for non-Pakistani/Indian customers and some photos on the menu would be very helpful. With a little extra effort on the service side they should have added some traditional wall decorations too. Simple, clean and unpretentious family-run restaurant. Naushad (the owner) contributes to a very friendly, accommodating and positive atmosphere for customers. The buffet is worth every penny. I would recommend this place to all who wants to experience South Asian (Indian, Pakistani) food, this is the best place. If you are looking for Halal Pakistani/Indian food, you must visit this place. I loved their Nihari and Chicken Korma curries. Very tasty and juicy meats. New people at front counter could be better. Con's: Parking is a major problem here. Chinese all you can eat next door is so busy everyone just takes over Mughals parking. After covid prices here have gone up to almost double. Meat prices have come down a lot since the pandemic but their prices have remained the same. Prices are up and portion's are smaller. Have to keep asking for salad and chutneys. especially on togo orders. Do not go here for Iftari. My family and I have just discovered this authentic Pakistani place and I can already see this be a regular spot for dining. Not too many restaurants serve brain masala so I was very happy to see it on the menu. We also ordered the beef and chicken seekh kabob and the nihari. The nihari was okay (not for me but my dad loved it). The kabobs and the brain masala was amazing. The dishes were plentiful, flavorful and just the right amount of spice. The naans were fresh, hot and slathered in ghee, just what I love. The dishes also come with this tangy chutney which compliments the meat dishes really well. Ethnicity-wise, I'm from the Indian subcontinent and don't get enough of the local food at home, so I'm always excited to come to this type of restaurant. I was very excited to see that everyone (approximately, 20 people in the one hour we were there) was on Indo/Pakistani heritage...always a good sign. Unfortunately, of the three dishes (Nahiri, Mixed Grill, chaat) that we tried, nothing was more than passable. Meat was dry, with poor flavor. Chaat was somewhat tasty, but paled in comparison to most times I've had this snack/dish. Ultimately, we left half our food uneaten and we did not take the leftovers home. And when one complained about higher prices on the tab, it will be told that they have placed a note on the counter ( which I wasn't able to locate) regarding changing prices. Also the quantity will not be what you will expect. Since they can't find right size of bowl, they will half fill your to go box to make sure they don't end up giving you more quantity. When one complain , the cashier did say they are receiving many similar complains but they will not be changing their business practices. If you're looking for delicious Indian food in Gwinnett, look no further than the Mughals on Jimmy Carter Blvd (I-85 Exit 99). The Mughals, presumably named after the Mughal Empire of India during the 16th to 18th centuries, serves Indian, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi cuisine. The restaurant is nestled in a run-down strip mall that also houses a Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet. The Mughals occupies one end of a strip mall and has a banquet hall for special events. This is very much a casual restaurant. The main dining area, which I think was redone in the past 2-3 years, is like dining in a plain, open, strip mall space. Imagine eating in an office break room or something similar, just bigger. It's a brightly lit room with several tables and a TV on the wall playing cricket. Several Indian restaurants in metro Atlanta are like this actually. You order upfront, but pay after your meal. It would be more efficient if you paid when ordering (like a fast casual restaurant). Drinks, plates, silverware, and napkins are self-serve. One good thing is, no matter how busy the place gets, the food comes out from the kitchen relatively fast. The restaurant has a small-to-moderate-sized menu with many Indian staples. If you aren't familiar with Indian food, then you may have trouble ordering because the menu doesn't have any descriptions of its items, just their Indian names. There is, however, a picture menu that you can request. It's very helpful. In addition to the regular menu, there's a whiteboard on the wall near the register with specials. Expect to see food such as samosas, kabobs, chicken dishes (e.g. curry chicken, butter chicken), and mutton (sheep) dishes, as well as various house specialties such as fried fish. There's also bread (naan, paratha), rice (basmati, biryani), and Indian beverages and desserts (rasmalai, kheer, gulab jamun). Everything is quite affordable as most entrees are each $8.99 or less. If you're an adventurous eater, one unique item they have is the brains masala. It's a house specialty made from mutton brains. Masala is a general Indian term used for a mixture of spices and ingredients. Honestly, I don't think the brains masala is that good, but if you want to try brains, here's your chance. The brains are chopped and sauteed in several spices and sauces. The dish doesn't look appealing. The brains look like cauliflower. Now what I've said makes this dish sound bad. It's not. It's OK. The brain doesn't have much flavor, so most of the taste comes from the semi-oily sauce it's drenched in. To me, the brain has similar consistency to tofu, just not as smooth or "clean cut." Yes, it's a bit mushy, more scrambled egg-like. I do think the brain is cooked well because I've had brain in Chinese hot pot that wasn't cooked very well. It had an unpleasant taste and an unappetizing, lumpy texture. Not here, though I do have to say the only truly good brains I've ever had are the veal brains at Holeman & Finch. The Mughals is great for communal dining where several dishes are shared. I recommend the Chicken 65, beef seekh kabob, and palak paneer. Chicken 65 consists of several small pieces of spicy, deep-fried chicken. The chicken pieces are red in color and are flavorful and tender. It's hard to go wrong with dish, even for folks with the most basic of palates. The beef seekh kabob are like beef sausages. They are tasty and aromatic. You can tell the sausages are filled with several herbs and spices, which give them an almost intense flavor. The beef seekh kabobs are a bit dry, but I think that's how they're supposed to be. Most of the meat dishes are accompanied with slices of raw white onion and hot sauce. Palak paneer is one of my favorite Indian dishes. It's creamed spinach made with paneer cheese. The Mughals' version of palak paneer, like many Indian restaurants, contains several cubes of paneer cheese. I think milk and cream are also used in this dish, though I'm not 100% sure. Ever had Boston Market creamed spinach? This is like the Indian equivalent. Palak paneer is not on the regular menu, so be sure to check the specials board for it. It's essential you order bread or rice to eat with any of the entrees. The bread and rice help soak up the sauces and flavors. Naan is a poofy flatbread while paratha is a more dense, harder flatbread. I recommend naan. Basmati rice is fluffy white rice. Very neutral and basic. Biryani rice is basmati rice with added ingredients, sort of like fried rice, but with totally different flavor and consistency. I love how Indian rice is fragrant, light, and soft. Order a mango lassi. Lassi is a yogurt-based Indian drink. The mango lassi here is incredibly thick. In fact, it's the thickest lassi I've ever had. Keep that in mind when ordering since it's very filling. Service is good. I especially like the Hispanic lady who takes the orders. She's very nice. read more

I didn't follow my own rule. Got home and had the wrong order. The receipt on the bag had my order but the food inside was incorrect. I called to let them know because I'm pretty sure we got someone's order and try to figure out what may have been given to us instead. After trying to explain what may have happened with a mix up of orders. I live a bit away so I didn't think It was an option to get it corrected and it was just trying to figure out what we had instead of our order. A woman came on the line and raised her voice at me and was angry - told me to bring the food back and get what I ordered. There was no need to behave like that. For lunch they (like most Indian restaurants) have a buffet. I wanted their menu items instead, so I went rogue and grabbed a menu. After a bit of time, I ordered their Chicken 65 ($8.99) and an order of their Chicken samosas ($3.50) The Chicken samosas came out first and were much smaller than I was used to (although the chicken samosas usually are). They were crispy, had really good flavor, and also came with a dipping sauce that I thought was okay (i.e. I didn't use it after the first dip). The Chicken 65 came out and also were crispy, dry, and they were served with the same dipping sauce and onions. The Chicken 65 was cooked perfectly, although I thought the flavor was a little less than what i'd want. Jalapenos or any peppers were not provided with the meal. The sauce definitely helped, but I did hope for more seasoning here. The Mughals is a decent sized restaurant, able to comfortably seat about 20-30 people, and while parking is not a problem, as this is a shared lot, you may not get a spot right in front of the restaurant. The Mughals shares a lot with the Likes of Hibachi Grill and Supreme and DD's Discounts and they're located at the corner of Jimmy Carter Blvd and Singleton rd. There are multiple exits on either street, and it's not super difficult to get out of this lot. The Mughals is a pretty good alternative for Indian eats.
