I had come to Gimre's with a very specific issue relating to a style of New Balance shoe I wished to purchase. Nikki was gracious and friendly and her knowledge of shoes is clearly extensive. When Nikki discovered the item I wanted to purchase had been discontinued, she knew where to look to see if there were other options to consider. After looked at some other possibilities, she helped me find another style, within the New Balance brand, that actually ended up being the perfect shoe for my particular needs. Thank you Gimre's for being a resource in Astoria, Oregon, and a big thank you Nikki for all of her efforts and taking the time necessary to help me find an even better pair of shoes than the ones I thought I would buy that day.

Which was no surprise at all, size 14s are hard to find on store shelves, but it was a surprise when they couldn't order Triumphs at all. I really wanted the same shoe again so Jesse the store manager went the extra mile and got in touch with the supplier only to find out that their was an issue in the manufacturing of that particular shoe for the time being. So, he found me two other pairs, a Brooks with similar off-set, and another pair of Sauconys with less off-set and more 'spring' to them. He ordered one pair and transferred (from the downtown location) the other, both in size 14. They arrived a few days later, I get the call and come in. Upon trying them on we quickly realize I need to be running in size 15's. So he orders the same two pairs for me this time one size up. The Brooks arrived first. I got a call, came in and met Jed (I think that's his name) I tried them on around the store, felt good. The Toebox felt a bit big though. Jed explained how that extra 'freedom' up front (my words) could lead to some horizontal movement and therefor friction on the bottom of my foot and the shoe. I was eager to run though. He said go, take 'em for a spin, you can bring 'em back muddy, whatever, just try 'em out. So I did. That night went for a quick 4 miler, they felt good, but he was right, too much play up front. The next day the other Sauconys came in in size 15. Try'd them on, felt awesome. They let me return the lightly used Brooks, and I'm super satisfied with these. Her help enabled me to select a pair of New Balance 880 with Gore-Tex, and they've worked out very well. Prices are reasonable, and selection is wide. Parking can be a bit tricky as Foot Traffic is in a very busy strip mall, and parking spaces fill up quickly. He wore the new pair around the house and on one walk around the block and unfortunately got a blister on the top of one of toes. even with adjusting the buckles, he wasn't able to get a comfortable fit on the shoes. We tried to return them a few days later but were told by the owner that because they were worn outside he wouldn't be able to resell them and couldn't return them. He refused to provide an in-store credit saying it would be the same as giving us money back and how would that be fair to his business. His solution was for my husband to wear socks with the sandals. He has no return or refund policy posted at the counter or on his receipts so customers are aware that he won't take product back. Now I know how he can afford to open another business in Newberg. I was intentional about shopping here because I had been helped in a purchase of a pair of Birkenstocks only a few weeks prior to this purchase and loved my experience and the shoes I got. I am all about supporting local businesses but will not be shopping here again or encouraging anyone else to do so either.
