I have visited this store 10+ times over the past year and purchased something during 5 of those times. I love your store and inventory, however during each of those visits not one associate said one word to me until I was at the register handing over my item to purchase. We have lived in the neighborhood for over 7 years. First, this store is hardly ever open, even during posted hours. This past weekend it was actually open and we went in to buy a birthday present. **Terrible Customer Service** I made an online order & 1 month after I placed the order I still had yet to receive an email saying it had shipped. I emailed the company 3 times with no answer. Called their customer service line multiple times just to wait on hold 15+ minutes & then be disconnected. I finally was able to reach someone through their Facebook Messenger. It then came back that it was a processing error on their end that they failed to realize nor let me know about it. After about a week of going back & forth with their Facebook people, they finally sent a replacement. Upon which it was delivered completely shattered. It then took a good week of me reaching out to their Facebook for an actual person to call me. While I got that resolved, I was sent a coupon for 50% off an entire order so I decided to give them a second shot. Well to no surprise that order was also delivered defective. I do NOT recommend this company to anyone. I was told by their Assistant Manager Brittany Owens that they cater to wholesalers & boy is that true. I have had the WORST experience & they clearly do not care about how they treat their customers. It is a true shame because their product is so cute but the way they treat their customers is beyond terrible & unacceptable. I'm truly amazed they are still in business. I love walking in here. For a few minutes pretending that I make 4 million a year or whatever you'd have to make to justify spending $400 on a Chloe fur coat for your baby to wear twice before growing out of it and/or vomiting on it. The good news is the sales people don't bother you (aka ask if you need help which would only make you self conscious about how poor you are relative to the bath toys section alone). I'm new to the neighbourhood and was delighted to find a children's store in my taste just around the corner from my house, but every single time I've been in there, that lady has been eying me up and down, never given me a smile, and made me feel very uncomfortable all together - whether I've been buying stuff or not. So glad to see these reviews. I thought it was just me! I walked into the store with my 2 1/2 year old son with me. I thought I would surprise him by getting him a new toy . When I greeted, I say "I" because no one greeted me, and introduced myself to a young lady she had this pursed little mouth and could barely bring herself to look at me and say hello. Blah blah blah, needless to say, definitely a store I will cross off my list. Not to mention, I'm starting a new clothing line that would fly off her shelves and if she would have been more decent I would have introduced her to my line. I have place 2-3 orders online and am yet to be satisfied. I ordered a swim suit cover up last year that was made out of odd material. Once washed it was never wearable again. I also ordered 2 summer dresses that were again made from poor quality material and not wearable quality. read more

I pass by here a lot when I'm in the city. This place has very minimal selection. I was hoping to find organic baby clothing but only a selected few they have available. The clothes they sell are very cute and unique but again, not very many to chose from. After some time browsing I did find a tutu dress for my daughter's bday. It was perfect and there was a size available for me to purchase. The tutu dress was $50, yes pricey but that's something to be expected at a boutique. I didn't experience poor customer service, in fact the guy who rang me up was quite friendly and the lady behind the counter smiled and asked if she could help me find anything. Really nice staff. As a mom of two under two, I've gone to enough children-related stores in the area. After passing by several times admiring the window and products, I finally went in to look for infant clothing/bedding. I saw a couple of pieces of interest and asked some basic questions (e.g. price, size, material, etc.). The person at the counter treated me so rudely that I turned and left as quickly as my feet could take me. Frankly, I don't need to be treated like a 2 year old and have a low tolerance for snobbery! While the products may be cute - the service is atrocious!! There are too many other boutiques in the city that will serve you with a smile and be thankful for your support. This is a bright store with lots of cute toys, books priced fairly, and cute things overall. The lady at the counter was very nice and welcoming. The clothing prices and other toy prices are really too high--stuffed animals priced over $50 I've seen for under $30 elsewhere. It has potential! Updating my review for new location... Just bought another gift for a friend today at Mudpie. While I am not a mother or even married, I sure do get invited to a lot of showers. Yes, I know, such selflessness! When I walked in today I was greeted by name and received warm service, as I always have. I spotted one pregnant person, another single person, and two Moms with their babies Everyone was greeted upon entry and asked if they needed help. I hate to say this, but as much as I love kids, I am kind of glad they aren't taking over the store. It is more fun to take part in this phenomenon while babysitting, at a friends house or even the park... If you are concerned about the reviews, ask for Liz or Gary - they have been around awhile, and are always so pleasant to work with... Beautiful space, high quality, and quite a selection. I always shop at Mudpie for children's clothes, toys and especially gifts. I am so happy they have moved to a larger location, because now there is even more merchandise to choose from. The new store is beautiful and they carry very unique items, which can not be found in the chain stores. I have also found the personnel in the store to be extremely helpful and very friendly. This is not Toys'R Us. This store has unique and beautiful merchandise. Fortunately at all price points. The owner clearly has a wonderful aesthetic that is reflected not only in the merchandise and the design of the store but the way she treats her customers. I am a pretty seasoned shopper and have a considerable threshold for retail dos and don'ts in higher-end boutique stores. I get the game so to speak and it generally d/n bother me. However, I was so unbelievably taken aback by the extreme rudeness of the staff at Mudpie that I will also be sending an old-fashioned letter directly to them. My daughter, and myself were impolitely admonished about a stuffed Alice in Wonderland doll that fell on the floor as my daughter tried to place it in a stroller (also for sale). "I do not want it to get dirty," the salesperson stated as she was walking away. The absurdity of the comment sent me straight into orbit. I was looking forward to browsing for a mere 5-10 minutes to get some ideas for holiday gifts from the inlaws and my family. I was really excited about the place. In that time, I was accosted by pure snobbery and unaccomodating impaitence for a toddler's benign curiosity over a stuffed doll. It is a real shame. They do have some very lovely items, but most of the brands can be found at any number of charming children's stores (especially if you travel) and if you really want the shabby chic nursery, I'd rather pay for an interior decorator's finds than deal with the staff. Who knows, perhaps they do have a loyal blue blood following that will sustain their business in the huge, almost indifferent space they occupy, but karma is rough and you can only throw out that type of behavior so many times before it comes back to you. read more

Yes, the staff and owners are rude. But buyer beware...your store credit has an expiration. That's what one of the owners told me today when I tried to redeem my store credit. She said that Mudpie routinely erases store credit after one year. So, my advice if you must shop there is to hold onto your receipt and obtain their return and store credit policy in writing. Not sure what others are reviewing that drops the ratings but this place is airy, quality is high, service attentive and Euro fashion as well as toys are well selected. Walked into this store as 5:45 to get a gift for a friend's child and met my mom in the store at about 6. There weren't any signs posted that said store hours, and NOBODY walked up to say we are closing in a few minutes if you need help. All of the sudden, at 5:50, all of the lights are turning off and I turn to the woman at cash to say I wanted to purchase something, but I guess I'll go. She didn't respond. As I walked out, she said the other lady accidentally turned off the lights but didn't apologize or offer to help us with anything. We walked out of the store, stood outside to talk for a moment and they followed us out and locked up. It was honestly so strange. What store closes at 5:50? Didn't they want the sale? I have never been compelled to write a review, but was so stung by the treatment my daughter and I received at this store that I feel the only way to get over it is to tell my story. I was thrilled to discover Mudpie had taken over the old Shabby Chic space on Fillmore. That is until my 2 1/2 year old daughter and I actually tried to shop there. Unbelievable - A children's store that hates children! We live in the neighborhood and are regulars on Fillmore street. A woman, who I am sad to say I think may be one of the owners (grayish hair with bangs and glasses) is so unpleasant! My daughter was so excited to find a plush fancy Nancy doll near a corolle doll stroller that she proceeded to push the doll, following me around the store. This unpleasant woman stopped, glared at us over her glasses and said, "oh no, that doll should not be pushed in that stroller." I would have been okay with that had she not then sighed, rolled her eyes and turned her back to walk away when I, stunned, immediately apologized and tried to assess the situation. This doll is the equivalent of a stuffed animal - by no means a Madame Alexander. I should also point out that it is priced at $54 and I, an idiot used to overpaying at boutiques, was going to purchase it, a $24 headband and a $62 play tent. (BTW -I found the exact same doll for $29.89 on amazon). I want to love this store and be happy that a children's store has come to the neighborhood, but am so saddened and disappointed by our treatment that I can't in good conscience spend a dime there. read more

My husband and I are in our 20s and expecting our first child, we went in here to get some nursery inspiration and maybe nab a few impulse baby things. We walked by maybe three or four employees and not one of them addressed us. They helped out some older customers but we were completely ignored. The owner took a toy out of my 2-year old's hands and told her not to touch anything in a nasty, rude tone (note that this is a children's store and there are toys all over at children's reach). When I confronted her, she told me that Mudpie is "not a children's store, it is a high-end boutique" in the rudest tone imaginable. Then the kicker- she told me I should "reevaluate my parenting." On March 18th I stopped by Mudpie to purchase a gift for a friend's new baby. I purchased several items, two of which had to be ordered and then sent 2 weeks later. On April 7th I received a phone call telling me that the second part of my purchase was complete but that the sizes I ordered were not available. I asked the clerk to just send one of the items ( the other was a duplicate) and that they credit my account for the duplicate item, which they said they would do. Five minutes later I received a call from Mudpie telling me that they made a mistake and the order had been shipped, AND that I should call my friend and ask them to give me back the duplicate item, so that I could send it back to Mudpie. Let me give you a lesson: we must accept the consequences of our errors. You made the mistake, I did not. Heaven knows you made a hefty profit from the items. I was outraged at the suggestion that I take back the gift, especially since I had not made the mistake in the first place. The clerks at Mudpie are so arrogant that they phoned my friend and asked her to send back the item. What a misguided way to manage a customer. As often as I can I will warn others of the outrageous business practices at that store, not to mention that they are pompous. Remember Mudpie, you are nothing without your clients. read more

NEVER AGAIN. I ordered Christmas items online and received an invoice for the FULL AMOUNT. When the package arrived one of the items was missing. The item was on the packing list, but it wasn't picked. I called the obviously only woman who was working customer service and she tells me they are out of the item and I wasn't charged. What was my problem anyway? My problem is it's Christmas, I ordered an item and was invoiced for it, I never know I'm not getting it until the day after the package arrived. This means I have to go shopping again and it's too late to do it online. She hangs up on me. So, so UNprofessional! I called back to speak to someone else. Obviously, the only one working picks up the phone and hangs it up. They would have you think they're a big operation. They aren't! Don't be fooled, ladies. You can't rely on them to actually send you the things you ordered or care when you call about it. read more

I'd give mudpie a 4.5 stars if it were an option. It's my second-favorite baby store in the bay area (the other one is too far away from me to frequent often). The store carries a moderately-sized selection of baby clothes, toys, books and furniture. I absolutely love the European designer clothes and allow myself a few outfits for every size range (too expensive to buy everything I like!). The jackets and sweaters she can wear for quite a while, since you can buy them a little larger, and to me they are well worth the $. The owners are also very helpful, allowing me to ask about merchandise over the phone, put items on hold, take items home to try on my daughter, etc. read more

I have gone to this store for a long time for gifts for other people as a clueless childless person, and now that we're expecting a baby, have gone shopping for myself (er, baby) as well. They have great stuff, friendly staff, and great sales (check out the permanent 50%-off room downstairs)! It fits an important niche--there are plenty of organic-y and basic babies' and children's stores in San Francisco, but there aren't many high-end shops where you can get truly special things. Mudpie is that place where you can get a lovely heirloom-quality christening gown or a nice wool coat or cashmere mittens or a detailed Hallowe'en costume. This baby boutique is fantastic! The decor is inviting and the clothes are beautiful. I bought a couple items for my 10 month old and they are stunning. I tried looking for Bonpoint in the city and it was impossible but Mudpie carries the line and so much more. They also carry last seasons clothing downstairs for 50% off and I was esctatic to get some great things down there. It is pricey but that is expected...if you want cheap dont go to Union Street and also if you want something less expensive there are a variety of other stores that can accomodate your budget. The lines that they carry are unique to Europe and they are truly stunning. Tartine et Chocolat is just the best and if youve been to Paris, you will see why. I cant wait to go back to the city and stop in to pick up things.....Also, the owner was very kind to us and quite helpful. She showed me many things that I didnt catch myself and she was not pretentious at all. I would assume that the other reviewers who were appalled by the prices, simply dont spend that kind of $$$ on themselves, but there are plenty of us that do. They also have lots of organic/green products like cribs and linens. As other reviewers have said, Mudpie has an excellent range of high quality children's items that are unique and from all over the world. I shop at Mudpie often (baby showers, children's gifts etc) not only because of the beautiful merchandise, but the quality of customer service. I am not sure who the owner is, but there's a lovely gentleman who has helped me with all my purchases. He takes the time to show you items, help you mix and match, doesn't over sell and does a wonderful job with gift wrapping. If you're looking for a unique gift, I would recommend Mudpie. read more

I am not one to take the time nor bother writing a review, however, its hard to understand how this store is in business. The staff is curt, they dislike children and seem to be angry. If you enjoy being treated as though you are unwelcome while shopping for overpriced merchandise, this is the shop for you! I was excited when this store opened in my neighborhood, especially since Honeys and Heroes down on Sacramento is no more. But the other reviewers are dead on - the owners are so horrible that I'd rather trek down to Union Street or some other neighborhood to buy cute kids' clothes and toys. My nine month old daughter grabbed a toy from her carrier while we were inside so I purchased it on my way out and asked a few questions about their extremely minimal selection of shoes for babies. The owner was curt and unhelpful (the only shoes they had in my daughter's size had tiny buttons on them that would have made putting them on a nightmare) and failed to even thank me for buying a Haba toy that I could have easily walked home and bought for half their price on Amazon. I go out of my way to patronize local stores because I like having Fillmore only a five minute walk away, but I will not be spending any more at Mudpie. read more
