Saturday, 5-25-24- Doing Grandpa duty, I forgot to pack a change of overnight clothes for my 7-year-old granddaughter's stay. This got me some annoyed looks. Quick solution: Head over to Small Frys. I found a parking space right in front on Saturday and I knew the gods were smiling upon us. We walked in and I told the staff I needed a jacket, PJ's, shirt, and socks for a 7-year-old girl. They jumped into action, showed me excellent selections, my granddaughter liked the choices and picked out what she wanted, and I was out the door in five minutes. I let the staff know how grateful I was. Small Frys saved my bacon, made me look good, kept my granddaughter and other authorities happy, and did it in good cheer and quickly. Small frys is the best children clothing/shoe store in San Francisco! Whenever I am in the area for lunch or a walk, I always stop by here to get something for my daughter and son. It's also a great place to get a gift for a special little one! There's always a decent sized sales rack at the entrance. What makes this store truly amazing is the owner. My family from Ukraine recently fled the war and arrived in San Francisco. The owner reached out to me and told me she has a care package at her store waiting for my almost 6 year old nephew. I had tears when reading how generous of a person she was. Not only did she give him incredible See Kai Run shoes, but she also have super stylish pants, shirts and PJs. I was a regular customer at small frys for the last couple years. This has been my go to for my kids clothes and birthday presents. Consistently the service has been horrible. No one says hello or helps find sizes. This is a neighborhood store with a very rude staff. I will not be returning to this store. I recommend others to take their business elsewhere. read more

I love this wonderful, local kids clothes and toy shop! They have amazing, friendly staff and they wrap the gifts so beautifully. They even gift wrap for items not purchased here (for a few), which is very well worth it! They have an incredible selection of clothes ranging in sizes, including newborns all the way up to young kids! They have been on 24th street for decades and really love, love, love coming here! Pros: - They carry a mix of clothing, "sundries" (like sunscreen), books and toys so you can pop in for all sorts of stuff. They carry great brands like Tea Collection and Noodle & Boo. They also carry an interesting assortment of books that highlight the diversity of San Francisco. - They offer free gift wrapping! Cons: - The store is small so while there is breadth of items, the depth of items and SKUs is relatively shallow. For example, there's a relatively limited number of dresses for baby girls age 9-12 months. - Prices are higher than you will pay in most other places (Nordstrom, direct from retailer, etc.). read more

I work in the neighborhood and always walk past this cute store. Unfortunately, today was the day I decided to walk in to purchase a few things for my best friends baby shower. Little did I know they did not have tine for me. There were two women workers inside and none of them couldn't even so much so hello. That's a red flag and an instant turn off. Cute little children's boutique in Noe Valley. They have mostly clothes, a small assortment of toys and books and a selection of baby carriers (Baby Bjorn). The staff is very friendly and enthusiastic. I like that they carry Chammies, a line of Polartec (the "real" polar fleece from Malden Mills) fleece pajamas. The style that they carry in the shop is the pullover top with the footed pants. It gets chilly at night so these jammies are great when you don't want to turn on the heater every night. I've only been able to find this particular brand online. The clothing selection is a good range of sizes. My personal preference is clothing that is more hip than cutesy. The clothes here are borderline cutesy, not a bad thing just an observation. read more

We love Small Frys! It's not the most economical shopping trip, but they offer a pretty good variety of children's clothes. I love the Zutano and Petit Lem outfits. They also have a profile artist that comes twice a year. We look forward to the special keepsakes he makes with just black paper and a pair of small, sharp scissors. In a pinch, I've used their changing room and found emergency diapers in most sizes in a basket, as well as some wipes for convenience. So thoughtful. It's a great neighborhood store that I try to patronize as much as I can afford to. Noe Valley needs more places like this! read more

I go here for gift purchases mainly since I don't have any children - there is such a great variety of baby clothes with varied price ranges depending on your budget. Great little children's boutique store, the clothes are pricey, but you can't fault them for their collection of "you can't find these at Borders or Barnes and Nobles" books. I've been here 3 or 4 times to buy their ethnic children's books. I've bought a couple of Filipino children's story books and given them as gifts. Every time the book is unwrapped there's a lot of, "Where did you get this book? This is great!" It's nice to know that these books are there and in the near vicinity and that I don't have to go to Amazon or order them online. read more

Came here yesterday looking for a baby gift for my cousin's new baby girl. They have a great selection here! I really wanted to get one of their SF onesies but wasn't sure if my cousin's baby would fit it. I went with a cute purple towel and rubber ducky set and even got it gift wrapped! No lower end crap here, not super high-end, but trendy name brand kids gear. You'll find everything from shoes, diaper bags, baptism outfits, toys, blankets, hair bows, etc. Very nice customer service, no pressure to buy. Although, we did end up buying a toy for baby. Amazing small business here in Noe valley. Good selection of baby toys and clothes at a decent price. They we're also involved with a program called Sf baby box that basically gave a free bassinet made out of a cardboard box. It came with goodies as well. This is a very nice store. They are more of the boutique style store a lot of first time parents will frequent to find all of the super cute and must have apparel and items. That is why they are so great for gift shopping! Price wise they are not as practical unless you work for Google or have a similar bank roll, but for that first baby this is a great shop to spoil with as well as finding a few of those perfect items. When I was a little girl, I used to play with Barbies and dress them up all the time. I would even go as far as to sew clothes for them. Now that I'm all adult, I've moved onto dressing up my little baby boy. And it's more fun because he brings life to the clothes. Small Frys has been one of my favorite places to buy stylish clothes for my boy. The prices are a bit high, but the sales are worth stopping in here and picking up some items. Not very well organized. Styles a bit outdated for the prices and the store was a little cramped. I spent all weekend going baby clothes shopping and this place was the worst by far. Baby stores should make you feel happy, not depressed. The owners and staff are super friendly here, but maybe it's because they're trying to distract customers from looking at their price tags. Worst customer service experience I've had in a long time. The salesperson acted as if she knew how to fit children's shoes, when, in fact, she did not. The first time my daughter wore her new shoes, they were so ill-fitting that they fell right off her feet. When I brought back the shoes the next day, the salesperson said the shoes couldn't be returned because they'd been worn. The owner came out and argued with me. Although the owner was quite rude, I stood my ground and, after fifteen minutes of arguing (with toddler in tow), I returned the shoes. Needless to say, I won't be returning to this store. Even more troubling, the store sells a racist book called "You Be Me, I'll Be You". It is about a white father who puts coffee grounds on his face and flour on his African-American daughter's face so that they can "dress up" like each other. I can't believe a book like this exists, much less that it's available for sale in a San Francisco children's store. read more

This is a good store for gifts, or for a one-off purchase for your own child. However, I have found the prices way too high, and not a great selection. It's too segmented: pink and girly or blue with trucks and animals. One exception: the Zutano collection is good. They also carry the Cushies sleep sacks, that snap at the shoulders. These are the BEST sleep blankets ever. They have a nice selection of blankets and little stuffed animals, as well as a few Petit Bateau onesies (the best, if you have a tall, lean child) and some good Robeez choices. They also carry Mustela products, which are the best. What keeps me from going here regularly is the service. I have found the staff to be annoying with no concept of personal space. Many time I wheeled my sleeping baby in there in her stroller -- with the hood down clearly signaling "sleeping within" only to have an elderly sales person come over and start yelling at the top of her voice and peering in, thus waking the baby. I know she was trying to be nice, but you'd think they'd clue in, working in a baby clothing store.... read more

I had bought clothes for both my boys and whenever I look for gift shopping I always know that I could find wonderful selection at Small Frys. This has been my go-to place to buy baby gifts and, believe me, I stop in here more than I'd really like. I tend to gravitate to the fuzzy ear hats since I am a big believer in dressing small children as animals as long as you can get away with it. Also, everything else in the store is ridiculously over-priced. I've bought a couple "Yayyyy Area" baby shirts and they are so expensive it is a crime. Small Frys is a cute baby & small kids clothes store, with some books & toys in there as well. It's a couple blocks away from me, in Noe Valley, so it was the perfect place to browse for a gift for my soon to be born baby niece. I often see very cute outfits in the window as I go past. These aren't cheap clothes, but they're probably worth it, especially if you want your baby to look fashionable. I got my sister a cute nursing cover thingie, which seems like it will be useful. I'm sure I'll be back to pick out some special outfits for the baby once she arrives. Oh, and service was friendly too, even when I accidentally knocked down their nursing covers display taking mine off the rack. read more
