    Ceramics you choose to paint.

This is not your run of the mill pottery and paint spot, while it may appear to be, it's more well run than many others I've frequented. Their client service makes the whole experience that much better. Not to mention the ceramic and pottery options you get to paint. The space is super clean and very Zen. Soft music, warm lighting, and super helpful/friendly staff. This is my favorite spot to come every Mother's Day with my children so we can chill and they can paint me a masterpiece we can use at home. Am making a small collection. The best part is also how reasonably priced they are. You can spend hours in here (I do), and it doesn't feel like you have. I particularly love their creative ideas the staff offers should you need it or just look around at their projects for inspiration. My favorite thing was learning to use the silk screen stencil on a tray I was painting. Fascinating technique and beautiful outcome when it was ready for pick up a week later. This place gets your imagination flowing and inspires us to do more artsy pieces than hoped for. Love them.

More Ceramic Options and some finished works for inspiration.

A lovely little place to paint some ceramic plates, cups, bowls, and a variety of other options as well!! My fiancé and I have been several times and enjoy the experience every time. The staff are cordial and patient, especially when working with small children and families for shorter visits and when hosting children's birthday parties in the basement level. The options for different ceramic items to paint is expansive, but they run out of the desirable ones fairly quick sometimes. (My fiancé and I are always on the look out for the notorious large size popcorn bowl to paint together. But it's one of their top items and after more than four visits, we've yet to get to paint one.) Overall: a great place to spend an hour or two and paint something for your home or office. Prices are reasonable depending on the size of your item and the staff are very happy to help get your creative side going!!

Because it rains a lot in New York, which explains why everything is so lush and gorgeous, when I recently visited my daughter, we made "in case of rain" plans with the specific goal in mind of doing something fun and different, which brings me to my review of MUDDWORKS....... where we truly did something fun and different. Ironically, it never rained, but we were so enamored with trying this that we went ahead and stuck with the plan of going to Muddworks. Muddworks is a wonderful resource for getting one's creativity on by way of painting already made pottery pieces. They provide the pottery, the paint, all the supplies you could think of.... and then some. You pick what piece(s) you want to paint, pick the paint colors, any added stencils or decorating tools. The pottery itself is wonderful. They have so many kitchen-y pieces. They have decorative containers, picture frames, religious pieces. They have cute kid-themed pieces, things for adults. If you can't find anything you like to paint, then it's on you because there are many shelves of things to choose from, and it's all wonderful...... truly, something for everyone, young and old. They provide places to sit, brushes, even smocks, and away you go painting your heart out with upbeat music playing in the background. WOWWWWWW. It was soooooooooooooooo much fun. While there were loads of kids shuffling in and out with one birthday party after another, here we were....... a 31 and 60 year old sitting there and painting to our heart's content.... and we certainly weren't the only adults painting, either !! They charge a price for each piece of pottery that gets painted, plus they charge a very reasonable amount ($8.00) for each hour spent painting. We got there at 11 and didn't leave until nearly 2:00. After we were done, they take the painted pieces, and after 1 week to 10 days, you have a beautifully glazed piece of pottery that (hopefully) looks like you had intended. The paint colors (pre-glazing) are much lighter than once they are fired. However, they offer "swatches" of what the colors look like once glazed, so you can get a sense before you select the paint colors. Since I wasn't going to be around when the pieces were done, I elected to make something for my daughter...... a spoon rest for her kitchen. She made a decorative container. I cannot tell you how much fun we had; I just wish I lived closed....... I'd be in this place A LOT !! I couldn't believe how little time I typically give the creative side of my brain. I think that happens to a lot of us. It's not even that I'm a good painter. Nor did I get caught up in that judgmental nonsense because it was just pure, unfiltered FUN. I honestly think I had more fun than the children did. My daughter, too !! Well, all's I can say is THANKS, Muddworks....... you TOTALLY rock !! I WILL BE BACK...... even if I do live 3,000 miles from you.

When it comes to artistic expression i'm a bit of a caveman. I think I have some dexterity issues so i'm really horrible at drawing and painting and stuff like that. And so when my daughter said she wanted to paint pottery for her birthday outing. I was not exactly excited. So when we arrived i was surprised to see so much activity... people were painting, or picking paint, or choosing pottery pieces and everyone seemed to be really enjoying themselves. And yes my children, both my son and my daughter really had a lot of fun. The thing is my wife was helping my daughter who is pretty good at painting... and i was helping my son who is artistically challenged... (what can i say he takes after me). so there were many points throughout the time we were there when i felt tempted to just snatch away the paint brush from him and do it for him. OK OK i admit it.... it wasn't only because he needed help, i was beginning to have fun too. I probably should have just started painting my own piggy bank . haha

This was my first time going to a pottery painting studio, and I had such an amazing experience at MuddWorks! Me and my boyfriend came in on a Saturday afternoon, and the place was empty. The environment was so relaxing, and I love the number of pottery options that are available to paint on - there are definitely some more options in store that aren't mentioned in the online catalog which was a nice surprise. The staff is so friendly, and there are absolutely no complaints about the service. You can tell that they care, and that they want to help; one of the staff members even helped me write on my mug! Overall, I loved coming here and I am definitely going back again. It's also such a treat to see the final product; it took about a week and a half for my mug to be finished and the colors are so vibrant! Overall a 10/10 experience :)

Great place! And of all the pottery painting places I've been, I like Mudd Works' style of glazing/firing the most.

So when the place is full or there's a lot of kids, it can be noisy. But it's too be expected. There's also a couple small dogs in the store. They keep to themselves. They had a decent selection of pottery to choose from. However, I think we wished there was a little more. We wanted to paint some of the marvel characters that we saw in a picture and also saw as a finished product on the shelf, but they were sold out. It's $8 to sit and then the price of the pottery on top of it. It's not cheap, but you're paying for the entertainment of it, the experience and memories, as well as, bringing home a one of a kind painted pottery. Additionally, there's a credit card fee if you pay with credit card. So I opted to pay in cash. Owners/staff are friendly. The staff offered suggestions on how to start painting (e.g. sketching out my design with a pencil first). But be patient, the owners have broken English. It didn't bother me, but I could see how it may be frustrating for others. Overall, we had a nice time at Mud Genius.

Sadly it was a frustrating experience and I am left wondering if it's this place only functions when the wife of the husband/wife team is at the helm. When she appeared she at least made an effort at customer friendliness. We went in on a weekday. I asked for an ice cream bowl. The husband's owner pointed to the shelves. I said I looked and could he help. He pointed to them again. No help. Sigh. I pick out a big item for my 8-year-old. We sit down. He proceeds to lecture my kid on using a big brush so he will finish faster. Is fast the goal here? It was overbearing and he didn't get any social cues to back off. More people come in -- a 5 and 8-year-old. He insists they sit together even though there's plenty of space because as he says: "this way I don't have to keep walking back and forth." It's a small shop people. Now we are crowded next to a 5-year-old who has ants in his pants and is ready to climb the walls. Relaxing it was not. Then there's the dog, which they keep in the store. I don't mind dogs, but some do. One such customer said her kid was afraid and could they put the dog away. He is put in the back only to keep coming back out or yap. Now we have to listen to the drama unfolding. But, I think the final straw, after enduring all this was that when I asked for a fine point brush because all the brushes out had bristles that were worn out I was informed customers ruined them so that's what they had. The message here: We can't have nice things and neither can you. I get kids are the main customers but it's an art shop and I KNOW brushes are not that expensive that you can't keep some aside for adults who are trying to do some more detailed work. So, no, it wasn't much fun, and it was sure as hell not relaxing. We won't be back.

However, out of the many many times I've passed by, the coffee tastes horribly bland and so lazily done by the dark skinned girl with colored eyes. I don't enjoy my visits to this place when I see her. She tends to be rude and very lazy. I asked her about the soap bars and she said "What you see there is there". However, there's a difference when I'm greeted by an Asian lady who I believe is the owner of the store. Not only does she make amazing coffee but her customer service is 10/10. I hope the owner can teach her employee to have better manners and customer service. Oh and make better tasting coffee. The last coffee I had was made by the dark skinned lady and it tasted horrible. When I asked for white sugar she gave me brown sugar in the little packets.... The coffee remained bland and she didn't even look happy to help! 0/5 stars experience.
