I reached out to explain our situation and asked for a reimbursement of the administrative fee, hoping for understanding in the face of a medical crisis. To my dismay, the Art League refused. While policies are in place for a reason, I had hoped that a nonprofit centered on community, creativity, and human expression would show at least a little human decency and compassion. Instead, I was met with rigidity and indifference. This experience left me incredibly disappointed--not just because of the money, but because of the message it sent. Life is unpredictable, and when people face hardship, institutions have an opportunity to show grace. Sadly, the Art League chose not to. I can't in good conscience recommend this organization to others. Art is supposed to be about empathy and connection, but my experience here suggests otherwise.
