This is my favorite Mud Bay store in Bellingham. I love their dog treat stations, open bins with a very large selection of treats plus listed ingredients. They also have a cold section for frozen pet food, raw bones, and my pup's favorite doggie ice cream. Pretty much anything I need for my dog I know I can find it here. The best! The only place I feel comfortable bringing my dog into. My dog has anxiety, the store is quiet/comfortable and the employees are sweet and treat her well by not getting too close but still dropping her treats. Everything at the store is great quality, for fair prices. The bulk treats are awesome. There's a lot of super cute pet accessories. The return policy is great!! I received a txt message that my order I placed a while back was ready. So I called ahead to verify store hours and give them the heads up I would be on my way. Quinn took the call and was nice. As I entered the store I was greeted and checked on to see if I was looking for something and finding things ok by several nice associates. However I always love meandering to see what catches my eye and to see if they sell product I love. A nice gal stocking dog food played with my pup and another gal and I had a fun convo about wearing black & white dog hair! There are some items that are more pricey (good, harness, carriers) etc. but you can find some good priced stuff here! I really like their dog collar lights, food bowls, and toys! Their selection is not huge but also not very small so if you want a ton of variety maybe not the place but if you want options def come here. I am so happy to have a great, local pet supply store with the quality and selection I've been looking for. I found perfect jackets for my two totally different dogs, after returning several from Chewy. The staff is so friendly and helpful. Had to leave a second updated review ! This store is above and beyond amazing. Chelsea assisted me today in finding the perfect dental care products for my cat with periodontal disease. Chelsea was extremely knowledgeable on products and it's level of effectiveness. Another wonderful experience here ! In addition: their return policy is amazing. We were on vacation in Bellingham when my dog Koda got scared and was so freaked out, he got out of his harness and ran out in the middle of the street. Thank god the car saw him & stopped until we could catch him. We quickly googled pet stores & found Mud Bay so we could buy a new harness. They were so helpful. Even though Koda was still out of sorts, they took their time & adjusted his harness so we didn't have to buy another one. They were so gentle with him.... I ended up buying a bunch of toys & dog food because even though I didn't have to buy anything, I wanted to show my appreciation for the kindness shown to my dog. I was referred to Mud Bay by a friend who found them helpful for their dog, who has significant dietary needs. My dog has very strict food requirements and her long time usual food brand has changed formulas and she's having a lot of issues with throwing up. I stopped in today for the first time and was helped by Kim, who was patient and knowledgeable. We went thru my dogs needs and problems and she recommended several food choices for my dog to try. She gave me (free) samples as well as a coupon for my next visit. I usually get my dog's food from Petco, which is, surprisingly, not any less expensive, and without the experienced staff to problem solve food needs. I can't say yet whether the food recommendations will work for my dog, but I'll be back -- either to buy more product from them, or to continue trying additional recommendations until we find the just right food for my dog. read more

This is my first visit to Mud Bay. I was vaguely familiar with the business and surprised that they showed up in Bellingham, I knew of them from Olympia, 3 hours south. Mud Bay opened a couple of months before Whole Foods in Lakeway Center, an excellent move on their part. Since I usually frequent big box Pet stores, I don't often visit small and local stores. Mud Bay is what I would call a medium sized store. I was pleasantly greeted when I entered the store. I quickly noticed the store was divided by cat on the left and dog on the right. To the left I headed, looking for some trimming cat food for my portly and new (to me) feline. I noticed quite a display of out-of-the-ordinary cat litters, they had a number of litters that I had never seen. I will have to check these out on my next visit. I was looking for only a minute when I was approached and asked if I needed help. The clerk directed me to the most popular food meeting my requirements. I went up to the front desk to check out, the same clerk checked me out, she included a handwritten thank you note and a coupon to use on my next visit. That was a nice touch. All in all I had a good experience and will definitely return soon for my pets' needs. read more

Popped in here yesterday to check things out. The selection was good, and I was surprised to see options for small pets in the back. However, the one staff member was fairly condescending and had a "know it all" attitude. There is a difference between educating people and talking down to them. We are pre-shopping for a new puppy who will be arriving soon. We have been to several stores, and while I had high hopes for this one, I think the customer service and education is better at Clark Feed & Seed. I'll take my business there. read more

I had never been in a Mud Bay before and had always been under the impression it was more of a boutique/high-end pet store, but when I got some great coupons for their store in the adoption paperwork for my rescue cat, I decided to give them a try. The store is very clean and beautifully laid out, with plenty of products, while not an overwhelming number of options. The staff is friendly, knowledgable, patient, and helpful. The prices are surprisingly competitive (even when compared to Amazon). They have an excellent return policy. They take donations for NOAH and WHS, and donate returned used products as well. I've been in their store a few times in the past couple weeks as I help my new cat settle in to her new home, and I've only had positive experiences there. If you have a pet (or are getting a pet) and are not already totally attached to a favorite pet store, I'd definitely suggest giving this one a try! read more

I seriously love this place! I adopted a pup from the Whatcom Humane Society and in my packet of info I got a couple coupons to this store. I've seen it by Whole Foods and have thought it would be expensive because it is right by Whole Foods and it looks 'boutique-ish' but when I went in to use my coupons I got the best customer service, they were only interested in selling something my dog would absolutely LOVE. Since I hadn't been in before they gave me three 'cans' free to test with my pup and make sure he absolutely loves the food before using my great deal of a coupon on one thing that my dog might not even like. I got a pound of their most popular treats and she said I could bring my dog in to test out treats before I used my coupon on the pound!! Lastly, she was so knowledgeable about everything, from the food to the treats to the dental health products. I love it in here!! I could spend some serious time in here without even breaking the bank! While they have high quality products they have some items that are in higher price range but they also have a fair amount of items well within a reasonable price range too. Best pet supply store around. I won't go anywhere else for pet supplies anymore. We adopted a kitten from NOAH who has some special health and dietary needs and we went into Mud Bay to get supplies. We were immediately greeted upon entering the store and Andrew listened to what we needed and was extremely knowledgable in all the products they carried and helpful in choosing what products were best for our kitty. Every time we go in everyone is always very polite and helpful, and we always leave the store with tons of free samples. They even gave us a few cans of food for free to let our kitty try them out and see what he likes best. He's a regular and all of the employees know him by name and treat him like family - especially Amber!!! All of the employees are welcoming and treat us so nicely. They are also super knowledgeable in all pet products. When i needed help finding treats, paw cream, food, a bed, and a harness - they knew everything. Every employee there is extremely friendly and helpful, and the manager provides some of the best customer service you could ever want. They go above and beyond in helping you find just what your pet needs, and their return policy is excellent as well. Your dog ate half a bone and then decided he didn't like it? Bring it back (what??)! I popped in today to get my dog a treat for his birthday, and not only was the manager extremely friendly and helpful (as usual), he actually ran to the back to get my dog a free pup ice cream birthday treat. For someone with a picky cat, this place gets a 5 star plus. Have you ever been to a store where you can test cat litter? Seriously, you can pour water into litter filled containers and test its clumping ability. May sound weird, but trust me, we found the best cat litter that way - Smart Cat - made from grass. Today's mission, our formerly easy going will eat anything 14 year old cat, has turned into a very finicky eater. So we asked if they sold little sample size bags. A very helpful woman asked me several questions, went to her computer, reviewed several brands and came back with two recommendations based on my comments. Got home and eureka... She not only likes it, she gobbled it up. Talk about going out of your way to help-- these folks are not only friendly and helpful, they know their stuff!!
